About Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor
In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened on the upper east side of New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes an illuminated water wall.

Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor Ratings and Reviews
Good, lively atmosphere. Guacamole was delicious and dinner selection was very good. The pace of the service was good... he came by to check on us, we didn't feel rushed nor where we needing service and couldn't find the waiter. We even had desert and coffee afterwards. Great date night, good conversation and good food. What else could you ask for. I will be back again soon.
It's been a year or so since I last visited Rosa's. I have been many times and the food was always fresh and the ambiance was nice. This place as really dated since my last visit. The veneer in the tables are peeling, menus are old, little if any interaction with staff, tableside guac was very bland as it appears they were using a cheaper avocado instead of Haas avocados. Prices have always been high but the quality and services justified it. Not anymore unfortunately. Doubt I will go back. Too many better options
The restaurant needs to be remodeled. My umbrella was stolen from the front where there was a basket in place to hold umbrellas. Our server had no clue about the wine by the glass offerings. He had to inquire as to whether or not a wine was from Colombia indicated by CL on the menu. They flashed the lights so that we would take the hint to leave. Just a horrible dining experience and I am so embarrassed because I raved about this place for so many years. I will not return.
Absolutely love Mexican food, especially authentic. The food here lacked taste and was incredibly overpriced for the quality. Three small, nearly meatless chicken enchiladas in green yaky stuff without a side of rice and beans for $20. The $14.50 table side guacamole was nothing special. Much better at Chipotle. I would not recommend this place to anyone, period. Even the service was slow, slow (during not so busy time) and the waiter had the personality of a turnip.
The Guacamole is always my favorite being prepared fresh at the table. I ordered the 3 different Enchiladas platter but did not enjoy them much. The sauces were either too spicy or too much tomatoe paste. It lacked creaminess and cheese. I saw crema in the descriptions but didn't find it on my plate. I should have emphasized to the waiter that I wanted something very cheesy.
The waiter was very friendly. He gave us space as we needed, but dropped off our check before we finished our lunch in case we were in a hurry.
Rosa Mexicana is always a nice environment, but I can't help feeling the food is over priced.
I love this restaurant but my last experience wasn't what I thought it would be. I left a note when I made the reservation stating that it was our anniversary etc the waiter barely acknowledged us the entire night and it felt a little rushed. The drinks were not as good either, But the food was phenomenal as always.
We have dined at this location on several occasions in the past and always enjoyed the experience.
Food: Food was good as always at Rosa Mexicano.
Service: Our experience with the service was not good. Even though we had made reservations in advance, we were seated in a bad location (very loud, table seemed to be stuck in a walking path). When I asked the host if we could be moved, he initially dismissed me and said the other tables were for those who had made reservations and no other tables were available. I reminded him that I had made a reservation. Thankfully we were then moved to an available and better table.
Our waiter was inattentive, and seemed apathetic about serving our group of 4.
Did not offer to explain the menu or make any suggestions.
Cleanliness: Bathrooms were messy and did not seem to have received attention.
Overall an average experience.
When Rose Mexicana first opened, it was excellent. We made it our go-to for special occasions, but it's time to look elsewhere, after three disappointing experiences in a row.
Most recently, we made reservations there on August 19th for an anniversary dinner. The cocktails and the ceviche we had as an appetizer were excellent, but it was downhill from there.
First, my wife had to send back her entree because it contained an ingredient she is allergic to, and which was not specified in the menu description. Getting the replacement order required waiting even longer than the original order had taken. I ate my entree so it wouldn't get cold while we waited, and then she had to eat hers after I was done. This really killed the sense of sharing an experience.
The food, apart from the ceviche, was also disappointing. The steak was gristly. The enchilada sauce was reminiscent of Spaghetti-Os. The rest of it was fine but not exceptional, and certainly not of the level to justify the upscale pricing.
The service was also medicore. Our waitress did not stop to check on us at any time during the meal, so we waited and ultimately had to catch her eye and wave her over to get fresh cocktails and more water. Otherwise, we had her attention only when ordering and getting the check.
So adios, Rose Mexicana. It's a shame that the restaurant has not maintained its initial high quality, but it's 0 for 3 now. Time to move on.
DIned here on a Sat night. the place was packed...1 hr wait without reservation. Fortunately we had one. Had a great table on balcony overlooking National Harbor. Perfect sunset view. Food was excellent. Couldn't stop munching the chips & salsa! Had the Salmon-delicious. Yummy drinks all around.
We each had a traditional margarita--very nice. We shared the TINGA DE RES Braised beef brisket tacos and the CARNITAS. They were both very good. The tacos had a very generous amount of meat--very welcome since it seems that many places skimp on the meat in tacos. The carnitas were very good as well, and came with rice and beans. The only thing we did not care for was the pineapple, but we just left it so not a problem. (We came for dinner from the MGM Grand-the shuttle over was fine but going back we had to wait a long time and make several stops before getting back.)
On open table I asked for a specia table by a window because we were there for our daughters 18th birthday. We were initially seated by the service station in the back so they obviously don't read the requests on open table. They had no idea it was a birthday celebration. We asked to move and we were put in a booth. The table was sticky which the server stated the finish was coming off the table so nothing she could do. The seats were also torn. For an expensive restaurant they should do better.
Service was very slow. One of our party requested something at the beginning of the meal and instead of telling us it might take a while they brought it out at the end of the meal when she no longer wanted it. Also we were there for a birthday and I made note of it in the reservation. I mentioned it again when the restaurant called to confirm. The waiter still had no clue and then we had to wait forever to get the minuscule Birthday dessert.
We were seated before our reservation time which was surprising since the restaurant was very crowded. The food, guacamole and nachos, had an excellent, authentic flavor. Sangria was some of the best I've ever had. Service was good considering we were there on a Saturday. Cost was pricey- $14.50 for guacamole! The noise level was over the top which made it hard to have a conversation. Not the best atmosphere for a romantic dinner- more like a frantic dinner. We left early because of the noise.
We came in specifically for the guacamole tonight! We enjoy it every time we come to Rosa and it's a reason we keep coming back. The selection of tequila drinks is long enough that we have been able to try new drinks every time we have come to Rosa. Joel was our server and he was polite, friendly and very helpful guiding my partner to the spicy cucumber drink. We also ordered the Churro ice cream dessert and we throughly enjoyed it.
Thanks for your help Joel!
I'm happy that each time we have come to Rosa our experience has been a good one. See you all soon.
I went for my 29th birthday. I had a party of 7. The hosts were absolutely unprofessional and were no help at all. They struggled to find my reservation (I was trying to check in early) and instead of telling me to wait a moment while they work things out, they said nothing and just helped the next person. I almost left. However, one of my friends asked them for the table and they immediately sat us. Not sure what the issue was. My actual server was AMAZING! Once you get past the ignorant hosts, you will get a smiling server and enjoy the restaurant.
