Rosa Mexicano - Los Angeles Ratings and Reviews
I went with my family for dinner before a Lakers game. We let the server know that we had to be out within an hour and immediate ordered drinks and food. It took 5 minutes to get the chips after the guac was prepared table side. We received our food quickly but still no drinks. The waitress told us a few times the bar is backed up and we were the next order.... ten minutes later still nothing.... finally we finished our food and we still didn't get our drinks of which two were shots.... The table next to us had the exact opposite problem, they received their drinks but no food. The manager handled the situation very graciously however damage was done. I had to ask for the bill twice and the drinks finally came out when we were leaving.. which was lucky for us as they were quite bad. We won't come back.
We stopped at Rosa Mexicano at LA Live prior to a Lakers game. It was packed and I was glad I made my reserviation via Open Table. The food is not the normal Mexican food that one is accustomed to. They have very different varieties of sauces and chilis and its all very pleasant. The guacamole is made by your table and is worth the price of admission alone. It's one of my favorites.
I gave this restaurant a rating of four because the food is so delicious with a great atmosphere. We were seated right away (helps to have a reservation) in a comfortable booth. The entrée pricing is decent but, the "Snacks" and "For the Table" items are overpriced as most of these items are between $10 and $15 each. We had the Guacamole en Molcajete and it was very, very good but, I think $15.50 is overpriced. My wife ordered the Alambre de Camarones which she enjoyed so much, she finished the entire meal which she rarely does. I had the Rollo de Pechuga which was also very good except the chicken was dry but, the poblano cream sauce made up for the dryness. We also ordered and shared the Chocolate Truffle Cake for dessert which topped the whole meal off as it tasted fantastic. The service was a little slow at times but, courteous and attentive when present. We do not drink alcoholic drinks so we cannot comment on the bar or drinks. Overall very nice but, be prepared to spend some money as our bill with a tip was over $100 for the night.
The sad downfall of a great restraunt. Loved this place in NY, it was pretty good initially in LA, but it's totally gone downhill and I have given them a couple chances. This isn't any better than a low budget mexican chain. And that isn't how they started out with exotic dishes, great ingredients and fun service. Totally dissapointing!
This restaurant is extremely popular, so make your own decisions. We found it pricey and the food was average. The margaritas are expensive - $15 for a short glass that was 70% ice, but you get your choice of tequilas -- a nice touch. All of the appetizers were $15 and average tasting. Also, we ordered the guacamole ($15) and it was so spicy that we could not eat it, but we learned later that they should have asked us if we wanted it mild, medium or hot. The location is great and lots of energy in the place, but there are places with better food for better value.
I typically love Rosa Mexicano! Sadly our last reservation, our table wasn’t ready until 30 minutes past our reservation. We were told to go wait outside. My food came out 20 minutes before the rest of my table. Also, the margaritas are $15 and quite small. But the guacamole almost made up for it.
We arrived mid afternoon. We received no chips or salsa like the other tables. Nachos were in a soupy sauce which made chips soggy. Chile relleno was more rice than anything else. Carnitas were the only plus. There were only two tables and service took forever. I've enjoyed Rosa in NYC and SF and will now not go back.
Even though we had a reservation and the restaurant was half empty when we arrived, we were seated at the worst table in the house, at a booth right next to the open door to the kitchen, where we listened to the servers yelling back and forth, plates and silverware clattering, for the entirety of our meal.
The waitress, although friendly enough, interrupted our conversation every time she approached the table. Even if one of us was in the middle of a sentence, she walked up and just started talking over us.
The food was OK but nothing to write home about.
Having dined at other Rosa Mexicano restaurants in NYC, we decided to celebrate a birthday at the LA restaurant. It seems we ran into bad luck. Our server was nowhere to be found after we ordered drinks. Drinks arrived about 15 mins after we ordered them. It took about another 10 mins after our drinks arrived to get our server’s attention and place our order. Our food was lukewarm to cold. It took about another 10 mins to locate and flag our server and tell him our situation. He was apologetic and called the manager. The manager was extremely apologetic and comped some of the dinner entrees. Overall, our experience was not good at all. I hope this is not a regular occurrence since they do offer some great dishes.
