Rosa Mexicano - Los Angeles Ratings and Reviews
We have been many times and has been fine, this time however we had a very bad experience. We were seated and ordered and after 40 minutes asked where our food was, told 5 minutes, after 15 we asked again. We were told that their computer system was down and they didn’t have any idea. The manager came and told us he would comp the meal but could not tell us when our food would come!!! Some folks next to us told us when their food did arrive it was the wrong order and cold. We had a Kings game to go to so had to leave without our food! I wonder what they did in the old days before computers. Haven’t they heard of tickets. If a restaurant and kitchen can’t function without a computer that is very sad. Don’t know when we’ll go again, if you can’t rely on getting your food.
Everyone has a bad dining experience now and then. We just had one at Rosa's.
Our reservation was for 5:45 p.m. and we were seated immediately. We ordered off the DineLA menu, which was 3 course meal (appetizer, main course, dessert). The appetizer did not arrive until 6:40 p.m., almost an hour after we sat down, and about 45 minutes after we ordered.
We had to leave by 7 p.m. for Kings game at Staples, so we were suddenly in a hurry.
To her credit, the waitress (who was very accommodating and did a good job overall) did give us a complimentary guacamole for the delay.
The appetizers finally arrived, and they were good. I had sopes (one with chicken, one with shrimp, and one with guacamole). My girlfriend had the cauliflower soup with bacon. Both were OK. Certainly edible, but otherwise unremarkable.
Eventually one main course came out....it was a sort of shish-kebob of chicken and shrimp. I bit into the chicken and it was raw. I don't mean undercooked; it was raw. I showed it to the waitress who took it back to the kitchen. We waited another 15 minutes....hoping against hope that my entree and my girlfriend's would show up and we could inhale it and run over to Staples, but after 15 more minutes it was 7 p.m. and we had to leave. So we asked for the check.
To their credit, we were not charged anything for our 75 minute stay in their restaurant. But we ended up having to eat hot dogs at Staples instead of a nice meal prior to the game.
I doubt this is the restaurant's standard modus operandi. Perhaps it was because of the special DineLA menu that threw them off their game. I don't know. But there's no set of circumstances under which it should take 45 minutes for the first course of a meal to come out, and definitely no excuse for serving raw or undercooked poultry. If Gordon Ramsey were watching this, he'd take a flamethrower to the kitchen.
But the ambience was nice, and we paid nothing. Which is what it was worth.
We had made reservations due to the food and previous reviews as we came from out of town and were attending an event at the Microsoft Theater. We called the restaurant as we were running late and they advised us we had a 10min. leeway. Our reservation was at 530pm we arrived at 540pm and the male hostess turned us away immediately did nothing to try and accommodate us as there was only two of us. The young lady there actually asked for the name on reservation and he kept insisting that we were late and reservation was lost even though we were within the 10minutes. We felt the hostess could of been a little nicer and handled the situation better. Yes they were busy but it is not fun to be treated the way we were and have them treat us rudely. I deal with clients from all over the world and sometimes take them to restaurants but would not recommend places were they treat the clients rudely.
Check in and seating was immediate and courteous. Service was slow - it took over 15 minutes for our waiter to appear - however, busboy did provide water and chips. Place was a madhouse but in fairness, this was before a Kings game at Staples Center next door and there were NFL playoff games on the TV in the bar - so the energy was understandable. Food was OK but, overall, I wouldn't go there again.
I had a pre-movie dinner date with my husband. We waited an hour for our main course. The server and a manager were apologetic. We were not complaining but it was a bummer since we then only had 15 minutes to eat by the time we got our food. And they didn’t knock anything off the bill. The guacamole, made tableside, was really good but the chile relleno was deep fried and kind of gross. The quesadilla was nothing special. The NYC Rosa Mexicano restaurants are both better than this one. Maybe we were just there on an off night.
We were very disappointed with the service. We waited over thirty minutes for cocktails and to order. We constantly ran out of water, chips, etc. and always needed to remind several servers before we got what we were requesting. Having visited Mexicano Rosa in both NY and Washington DC we assumed that the experience would be comparable. Hardly a comparison! Although we were very satisfied previously I would not recommend the Los Angeles restaurant.
I went with my family for dinner before a Lakers game. We let the server know that we had to be out within an hour and immediate ordered drinks and food. It took 5 minutes to get the chips after the guac was prepared table side. We received our food quickly but still no drinks. The waitress told us a few times the bar is backed up and we were the next order.... ten minutes later still nothing.... finally we finished our food and we still didn't get our drinks of which two were shots.... The table next to us had the exact opposite problem, they received their drinks but no food. The manager handled the situation very graciously however damage was done. I had to ask for the bill twice and the drinks finally came out when we were leaving.. which was lucky for us as they were quite bad. We won't come back.
We stopped at Rosa Mexicano at LA Live prior to a Lakers game. It was packed and I was glad I made my reserviation via Open Table. The food is not the normal Mexican food that one is accustomed to. They have very different varieties of sauces and chilis and its all very pleasant. The guacamole is made by your table and is worth the price of admission alone. It's one of my favorites.
