Our flagship location opened its doors on First Avenue in 1984. From the moment you arrive, old world charm permeates your dining experience through authentic Mexican colors and rustic folk art. Traditional amate gods greet you at the front entrance and brightly colored papel picado hangs from the ceiling. Corn tortillas are made on site and an exposition grill further seduces your senses. With its warm ambiance and outstanding cuisine, this Rosa Mexicano location has remained a perennial New York favorite for over 25 years.

I have eaten at Rosa Mexicano in many different locations and never had a bad meal until now. The food was tasty but cold, I was really surprised because they got it out to us fairly quickly but it was not hot at all. We did not complain we just ate it and left. I feel for the price your charging you have to keep up the quality.

The space was a bit tight but I understand that it was a busy day… Valentine’s Day. But the waitstaff was completely knowledgeable and very polite. Recommendations were spot on. Drinks were amazing. Food was amazing.

I'm a big fan of Rosa Mexicano and have been to 3 different locations in NY. The original First Avenue location was always special. I now think it has declined. The Union Square location is now so much better in terms of the ambience, service and food. I was really disappointed for the first time by the food. The guacamole was subpar and we shared the Valentine's menu "may y tierra" for 2 and it just wasn't that good. Shrimp and lobster had little taste, ditto for the Coca Cola braised chicken. Filet was good. Maybe it was an off night but we left a bit underwhelmed.

We went for a Valentines Day dinner this week. I had already been here twice and liked it so I booked it for Vday since I was spending the day in this neighborhood. Was happily surprised to see Valentines dinner specials on the menu in addition to their regular menu. Service was excellent - friendly servers and busing of tables with a smile. I would call the food "healthy" Mexican cuisine. I am a vegetarian and have many options here. The tableside guacamole is delicious and the chips and tortillas are authentic and made in house. All the food is delicious and very ample sized portions- we took some food home to enjoy the next day. My favorite dish is something called "carbone" which is a skillet meal - it is not fajitas but kind of similar. For dessert the truffles are amazing. I definitely recommend Rosa Mexicana!

Very friendly staff . Our waiter was very helpful and enthusiastic about his job which is such a pleasant surprise. He took pride in knowing the menu and was very professional.

Food was delicious and had one of the best margaritas here!

Not only is this the flagship restaurant for a large international chain, but the new manager there is a professional woman whom I would recommend above most restaurant managers I've met. We watched two drunk (would be) patrons come into the restaurant and become belligerent. she managed that with true finesse, as well as continuing her role, and not making it a big deal for anyone. All the food is made fresh there and is delicious.

I have been here many times and the food has gone way downhill. Even my white sangria was bad--tasted like watered down orange juice. The guacamole remains excellent, however.

Made a 7:30 reservation, didn't get seated until 8:30. Hostesses were rude and clueless. Completely disorganized. Service was sub par. Overall an awful experience.

The (non) service was incredibly slow. No one came unless we called for someone. Guacamole was excellent, everything else was hit and miss.

Service was terrible, waiter forgot initial guacamole order, forgot multiple drink orders each time we ordered a drink had to ask multiple times to receive it. Dirty dishes sat on table for extended period of time and food arrived luke warm. Rosa has always been a favorite so I will not cross it off my list, hopefully this was a very off night and not new service levels.

Guac was excellent, got so full off of that that I couldn't finishing my mushrooms tacos (although those were fantastic too). Margaritas are delicious and STRONG. Perfect girls night dinner.

An oldie but goodie. This place has been around forever yet menu is current and interesting. Very good food, service, value! Open kitchen is always a nice show!
