We have been coming here since 2000, every time we visit NYC. The food is top notch. It’s lively. The margaritas are the best you will find. If you go, just don’t take my seat!!
We were there an hour and a half and when we got our food it was cold. We left and got pizza down the street. Total disappointment.
Poor seating experience, but the rest of the evening was great.
I love the "Queso fundido". The Guacamole is excellent, although I will prefer it spicier. The plantains with cream are a favorite of mine. And the flautas never disappoint. You can have several appetizers or a big dish like Tampiqueña steak, and you will end up happy. Nothing but to end with churros. They are perfectly delicious. The only thing that could improve would be the Margaritas, they are good but pricey and they put too much ice on them.
Nothing to tell, met friend for dinner. Food & Drinks very good. Will definitely go back.
Great food. Super expensive and kind of held hostage.
I eat here often and would normally give this restaurant five stars in all areas. However this last visit was a disappointment. It had all to do with service, and nothing to do with food which was prepared beautifully, and tasted fabulous.
Went to brunch. Guacamole was ordered medium spicy but was very bland and had no salt. With the Sopes Benedict Traditional entree, the poached eggs were overdone, more like hard boiled and the Canadian bacon couldn't be cut. With the Hurache Con Carne Asada, the skirt steak was delicious but the fried egg was hard and inedible. Ordered the bottomless beverages and the drinks were so weak I was able to drink three and usually I can only drink one drink before feeling the effects. Very disappointed. Love Rosa Mexicana but will not visit the location again.
Awesome. As ever. We would highly recommend a visit.
Very good food, very good service from Carlos our waitor. Very content with the experience.
All very good with friendly service but Margaritas and dishes in general a bit pricey. I wonder why, if that was applicable, we did not get a "Happy Hour" for our first 3 margaritas. All in all we love the food, although th benches in the booth rather hard on the butts. Glad to see the place always crowded.
IT WAS NOT ONLY GREAT, BUT WE ARE THRILLED TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE OPEN FOR LUNCH AND ARE ALREADY MAKING PLANS.
Amazing food and portions!
Checked in for our 7:15 reservation at 7:08. At 7:26 I checked back in with the hostess and she looked up our reservation and told me it would be a few more minutes. A couple minutes later we overheard them talking about a couple that was a no show - they were talking about us. When we told the hostess we had been there she said she had just gotten up there. She was the one that had confirmed my reservation 4 minutes earlier.
After that they finally seated us. Our waiter was so nice, but the poor guy was clearly over worked. We didn’t get our entrees until 8:50.
When we finally got home I realized they had cancelled my reservation at 7:11, 3 minutes AFTER we had already checked in. The other locations are great, but this one is mismanaged and understaffed
Apparently there was a food inspection so the kitchen completely stopped. Unfortunately we weren’t told before we sat down (would have went elsewhere) OR ordered, so it took an hour and 20 minutes to get our food. Meanwhile there was barely any service and zero communication during that time. We had no clue what was going on. Poorly handled situation.
I have been going to this restaurant in the East 50s for years, it was my favorite in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, it has slipped. The menus have changed and offer less choices and the design is now very conventional. My menu was soiled. i ordered a pomegranate margarita without salt.. It tasted ordinary and was not the deep pink color or laden with alcohol as of old, and it came with the rim half salted. The glass was small and it was impossible to drink without submerging the tip of my nose into light pink slush, I had to use a straw. The glass was clearly too small in proportion to the serving. And this is or was their signature drink. The guacamole was still terrific and my vegan dinner was tasty. My waiter did not seem very familiar with the selections, however. On the whole I was disappointed with the experience. It feels like the owners are cutting corners to make money instead of focusing on quality and maintaining what used to be an excellent reputation.
The service was very slow. Very kind staff but they either forgot to bring our food out or there was a delay in the kitchen. We received complimentary corn bread which we appreciated but even drink service took a while. That was a bit frustrating when paying for a bottomless brunch.
Valentine’s Day! The restaurant was packed and still everyone was so nice. Thank you great dinner!
It was Valentine’s Day and we want Mexican. We have gone to the one in Lincoln center and we love it. It’s smaller but the service was excellent, food great and price was right! Will see you soon. Thank you.
Best guacamole ever. Very good service considering Valentine Day madness
They were great, it was cold, Valentines Day and busy...and we arrived early and were nicely accommodated. It was busy but for a New York holiday evening there were no true complaints.
Extremely overcrowded and the added tables were so small I couldn’t even move to eat on Valentine’s Day. Not at all what I expected, would not go again for Valentine’s Day.
I do want to note I have been to this location before and have had a wonderful experience but unfortunately on 2/14 that was not the case. Because it was Valentine’s Day we noticed the extra amount of tables in the restaurant. They were extremely close together and you could hear both couples conversation next to you. Unfortunately our waiter was un attentive and the drinks were not made well. We did order the guacamole, the portion was sad (so small) and it seemed they raised the price to $16. Overall not a good experience.
Fantastic food, service, waiter recommended red snapper was outstanding.
Quac was unreal....nice and chunky........
Very impressed as this was on a hectic Valentine's day.....
The pomegranite marguerita and quacamole prepared tableside are worth going out of the way for, but the rest of the menu is full of great choices as well. Service is timely but not intrusive. The ambience is perhaps average, but improves when the maguarita kicks in. You can dine well at a reasonable price.
It was awful. My beef was mostly fat. The tortillas were plain, store-bought and of low quality. Everything was salty and underseasoned. It was painfully obviously things were merely warmed by Chef Mike. My girlfriend's fish was overcooked. Even the rice and beans sucked. Hard rice and dry old beans. We could have stayed home or even gone to Taco Bell.
Usually a great staple but perhaps this was a bit of an off night with oversalted guac, wrong orders on food and drinks and frazzled hostess
Great food, drinks and service.
Terrible. The food was straight out of the microwave and very very salty. We complained but there was no help. The waitress said “sorry, I’ll tell the chef” but that was it. Avoid at all cost
Food, delicious. Service, super attentive. A bit rowdy, but expected. The only thing I don't like is that Margaritas are too expensive and they give you mostly ice and an insignificant amount of actual drink for the price they are charging. They should be careful with this. To silly a detail to ruin such a good quality restaurant.
Horrible service. I will not return to this place.
Steak with mushroom sauce better than ever. The manager Caroline is phenomenal.
Good food, good drinks and a lot of fun. Would go again and do recommend.
I like the food, it’s always consistent. The prices are high for a Mexican restaurant, but the food quality is consistent and the portions are good.
They have a great happy hour at the bar, but you don’t get the same happy hour specials at the table, which to me is a problem. If you’re there to dine during happy hour, they shouldn’t make up the margaritas just because you’re having dinner. They should really rethink that rule. Doesn’t make me feel good as a customer to know that I’m probably spending more money on food than someone at the bar is and I’m being penalized for sitting at a table.
Doesn’t make me feel warmly about the restaurant.
Rosa Mexicano prepares excellent meals and presents them in a lovely way. Their staff is highly professioinal and friendly.
Not for a special occasion. The one in Colombus Ave is wayyyyyyy better. I didn’t like mine and my husbands experience. It was our anniversary and the tables were wabaly, the tables were to close to other tables. The waiters were nice but the customers were so rude it was so uncomfortable.
It was very busy and had to wait for our reservation for 30 minutes. Cramped when waiting. Service was very good though
Our Rosa was back on top tonight. The service, from the lovely hostess to our attentive, polite, server was excellent. The food was authentic, fresh, hot and tasty. The guacamole was extra fresh and tasty, so too, were the kale and zoodle side dishes. The steak/ chicken with peppers were delicious as was the stuffed pepper ( good as a vegetarian option). Really good meal tonight with very attentive service. We are glad to have the quality food and service that Rosa is known for back!
Will be missed.
