Rosa Mexicano - DC Ratings and Reviews
Many fans of the Washington Capitals hockey team were having a great (LOUD) time when I arrived. Thankfully, nice hostess found me a table where my friend and I had a least a reasonable chance of hearing each other speak. Food mediocre. Fajitas came with cheese melted all over them -- not what we expected. Fish taco had too much sauce on the top. Waiter was pleasant, but I don't believe he checked in once after serving the wine. Someone else delivered the food. I enjoyed being with my dinner partner, but the meal was underwhelming.
Rosa is always a reliable bet. I haven't been here in a while, and I think they've raised prices in recent years. Not so easy to get an inexpensive light lunch. But the food is tasty and well done, and filling. Guac is always good, and a good variety to choose from.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I absolutely love it. The food and drinks are so good, the service is very friendly and welcoming. I don't generally like corn tortillas, but here I love them. I also don't generally even bother with rice and beans, but here I'm obsessed. The chef is amazing, I'm pretty sure you can't order a bad dish.
La host horrible el servicio, nos atendió de mala gana y el servicio muy regular como aperezados y como no había mucha gente todos hablaban y nadie atendía de buena gana. La comida estuvo rica y el guacamole inigualable pero me ha ido mejor en NYC.
New Year's Eve - There was a pre fixed menu for $49 although I found it online advertised for $35. After hearing the hype, I was excited to try the food. This Mexican food is definitely not the best I've had. The Guac had no lime juice, shrimp we're dry, and my friend hated her enchiladas.
Service was great! Food just not what I expected.
Here with another couple for NYE. Expected a normal menu but was only given option of $49 per person per couple, which included appetizer, guacamole, entree, and dessert. Food was ok, portions were large and we were full after. Service was great. Alcoholic spirits were weak and overpriced. Overall for the $49, it would have been a better value if it had included one beverage.
Loved our first visit to Rosa Mexicano. Our meal was absolutely incredible, and our server Silvano was excellent! We loved the tableside prepared guacamole and questions fundido. We enjoyed the flautas, quesadillas, empanadas and the tortilla soup. Everything was just so wonderful!
Very attentive polite service. Absolutely delicious food and very tasty drinks. Authentic Mexican. On the pricey side but you get what you pay for. After a wonderful meal the only complaint I’d have was the flan tasting so-so (compared to the rest of the wonderful food).
Made reservations a couple months out to celebrate our Anniversary prior to a Caps game. Busy night (game night always is). Three people at the hostess counter, all focused on one confused customer. We waited in the busy doorway for them to finally finish. Once that was done we were seated quickly. Food was great, but service was slow—bordering on neglectful. But it was just our waiter. The table next to us had great service. I could chalk it up to a bad night, but I don’t think he’s very efficient. If we go again, we’ll be sure to sit in a different section.
Did I mention that the food was great? Ceviche Camarones and Quesadilla de Tinga de Res as appetizers . Pescada Primavera (that the waiter didn’t put in until *after* we had finished our appetizers (?!?)) was cooked perfectly. Portions are large. The salsa and the tableside guacamole had just the right amount of spice and flavor. We really could have gotten away with splitting one appetizer and the main dish and left very full.
Sometimes the service is excellent. Sometimes the wait staff disappears, like when we were waiting for our Christmas Eve bill so we could go home. In their defense, the restaurant had several large parties. In our defense, we waited about 20 minutes with our food and drinks finished and the table cleared before someone finally showed up with a bill.
Maybe it takes 20 minutes to take the food and drink orders for another table, but maybe the staff that had cleared our table might have told someone we were ready to leave so a bill could be prepared.
We'll come back. It might not be right away as we look for a better ending to a night out.
Food was very poor for the price. Servings were small, quality was low, flavor was bland. I've had much better food at small "cheap" Mexican restaurants. The only thing that was acceptable was the margarita. I would not recommend spending your time & money in this restaurant.
My experience at ROSA Mexicano was not what I expected. When making the reservation I asked for a nice table for two (because it was my husband’s bday), somewhere next to a window. Upon arrival, they wanted to seat us in a back room that looked like a cafeteria, no ambiance at all. Aftter objecting and rejecting the original table they found us a better table in the front by a window.
Then the food was just ok, nothing memorable. Finally, the waiter asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu, we said yes, next thing we knew we were getting the check. I guess no dessert.
I had ordered an item with an exotic ingredient to find out that they used the exotic ingredients name, huitlacoche, for the menu, but used ordinary mushrooms for the food. I was looking forward to trying something different and was disappointed by the lack luster dish that was delivered. Truth in menu must not apply to restaurants in DC near the theatres. Oh well, I just won't go back
Horrible experience. Service was terrible..seated and waited 10 minutes for someone to come by with water. Food listed was not what was delivered...ordered a quesadilla with peppers and onions and it came with cauliflower. The problem is not with the food it was just that this wasn't on the description of the food. Waiter also failed to refill drink order until 3rd reminder. Restaurant is right next to Capital One Arena and there was a game. The police lights in the street were quite annoying.
Drinks and appetizers were delicious. Bartender was fantastic, but our server once we were seated was extremely inattentive. We finished our drinks and waited a full 10-15 minutes before he even strolled by. Never bothered to check to see if we needed anything or if our meal was prepared properly. Very disappointed in that aspect. I’d go back because we noticed other servers were much more on top of things. Could be our guy was having a bad day or he’s just not cut out to be a waiter!
I love Mexican food, and I love Rosa Mexicano! My husband made reservations here three years ago for dinner after he proposed to me on the terrace of the Kennedy Center... and we came back this year to see the same show at the Kennedy Center, and decided to keep our “tradition” alive by coming back to Rosa Mexicano for dinner! Can’t go wrong with the guacamole, and loved every bite of my Budin de Pollo! Service was great, drinks were kept full, and our table was ready within 5 minutes of arriving.
