Rosa Mexicano - DC Ratings and Reviews
Rosa Mexicano is always a good spot. Food is fresh, service is good and price is pretty reasonable by D.C. standards. The location for someone who attends a lot of events at Capital One Arena is ideal and the wait staff always gets me out before the game. It's a place you really can't go wrong with if you like Mexican.
Before we got I received a phone call to checked on my reservation, the hostess was very helpful. We seat on the bar and have a few drinks, the bartender was friendly and always checking on us. When we got to out table, we order appetizers and they came quick, the waiter was very professional and friendly. Overall the experience was amazing, the food was amazing.
My friend and I️ went to Rosa Mexicano after work before a show at the National Theatre. We made a reservation ahead of time, which was a good idea because it was very busy (which is expected for a Friday evening!) It was a bit crowded at our table, but the drinks and food were quick and delicious!
I totally love this place. The spicy guacamole is to die for and come with "warm chips". Usually. For whatever reason, the chips were not warm. Asked for some warm chips. Got more of the same. Asked again.... still not warm. Not sure what the problem (warming lights not on/not hot) was but for whatever reason, the lack of warm chips left something to be desired. I REALLY enjoyed my spicy cucumber cocktail though.... and the Caps won!
We went for a special occasion in the evening and the restaurant was moderately busy. Our server was excellent as was the food. The problem began after we ordered desserts. My girlfriend and I ordered a Mexican chocolate cake with an exquisite Khahlua whipped cream and a raspberry guajillo sauce. When the cake arrived, my girlfriend noticed that the cake was missing the whipped cream. She called our server and asked him where the whipped cream was. The server ran back to the kitchen to inquire what had happened. He came back and stated that the kitchen informed him that the whipped cream had run out and they though the customer would not notice. We then asked for a manager. The whipped cream mysteriously appeared later as we were finishing our dessert. My girlfriend tried to address her concerns to the manager (Javier), who coldly responded to her: "I took it off the check". My girlfriend also made a complaint about the conditions of the ladies bathroom and that it needed to be cleaned. He blankly stared at her and went away. He never said I am sorry and and did not apologize for the mishap with our desserts. Truthfully, our server would have made a better manager...and Javier...well he would be better off not working in the food industry.
We were not looking to get a free dessert, we came for a pleasant dining experience and service. The food isn't cheap either but that was expected along with the service that should come with that, and of course the location - in the heart of Penn Quarter. We left with a disappointed impression of Rosa Mexicana and felt let down by it's lack of attention by management staff to remedy a kitchen mishap. A simple apology would have made this a whole lot better.
We also emailed Rosa Mexicana about our experience a few days after this incident. They never responded. So I guess it wasn't important along with their customer service.
Good was good, not great, as far as latin restaurants go. The guacamole made fresh in front us was good. We got one spicy and one mild. I stayed with the spicy. Was very good. But never enough. I got the fish tacos. They were quite small, and because small a bit messy. But the fish was crispy and texture contrast was goid. Flavors were quite nice. The fried corn was also taste.
Rice and beans were set on the table to share. They were not very good. Beanscwere very pasty and dry and rice was not hit. They shared the same bowl which made it difficult to gave one and not the other.
Service friendly but slow to refill drinks
Ambience was pleasant with lots of visuals to look at.
I may not choose again unless I have few options to choose for latin food.
There are many latin restaurants that exceed this standard , but not a bad place.
We dine at Rosa’s in National Harbor 2-4 times per month. This was our first and last visit to the DC location.
The food had no flavor and the service was horrible.
The DC location needs to take lessons from the National Harbor site.
Rosa’s is one of our favorite restaurants, but we will never visit the dc locations again.
The guacamole is made fresh right at your table. So delicious and fresh. The food options are traditional Mexican cuisine to very unique fish dishes and more. I enjoyed my margarita made with my choice of of alcohol (Patron silver). It is a bit pricey for Mexican food. It was also quite noisy.
Food was awesome as always. They seated us in the middle of the family with kids section with food all over the floor and little kids who were somewhat well behaved but not always...it was an irritant and a distraction for a nice quiet brunch. There has to be a way to address this so one can better enjoy the great food and service.
We were in DC at a conference and decided on this restaurant because we’d had great experiences with two of their restaurants in New York City. Everything we ordered here was ‘meh’—underseasoned and definitely not worth the high price tag. The service was ok. We were seated at a small table and they left us with menus that we had to put under our plates while we ate our appetizers, so we felt very crowded. Our server was reasonably attentive though we had to ask the person who brought our dinners to remove the basket of chips so we’d have room for our plates. Honestly if the food had been better none of this would have mattered. We would have had a tastier meal down the street at ShakeShack.
This is one of my favorite places. It has great Guacamole, and a variety of interesting and authentic Mexican dishes, not just your tacos, burritos and Tex-Mex. While it is very big, it is also very crowded and popular so reservations are recommended, especially where there is an event at the Verizon Center. It has a lovely atmosphere, big bright windows on the street on two sides, a jumping bar area and some private rooms for parties. I like their chocolate mole enchiladas so much that I took pictures of them and plan to serve them dish at my wedding.
