Rosa Mexicano - DC

I struggle with this review. Rosa Mexicano is a nice place. The staff was helpful, friendly and prompt. We were disappointed when arriving though because it was a 7:30 pm reservation (on a Monday) and a beautiful night so we asked if we could sit outside and they said the patio was now closed. The guacamole was delicious, but they say 'table-side"and although we could see a guy making it inside the dining room it was not table side. Not really a big deal, but table side items are a fun part of the environment. They also have great salsa and all the drinks we ordered were good (mojito and red sangria). The main problem we had was with the entree menu. Their menu recently changed and we didn't notice until we were already there. The new menu didn't have a couple items we were looking forward to ordering. Two of us had the tres enchiladas and the other ordered a salad. The entrees were just ok for all of us. We are accustom to real Mexican food (so we did not expect Tex-Mex) but the food just did not seem to be worth the high dollar price. I might go back sometime just for salsa, guacamole and drinks before a game but not for dinner.
A good experience overall. Only complaints was that the serving size of the taco was smaller than expected and the churros were undercooked.
The service and food was great. We both had enough to take home.
Our food was over sauced. We both had salads and they each had way too much dressing. Guac is always the best move at Rosa
Really good chocolate cake
First time lunching at Rosa, have been here for dinners and bar side eating. Very impressed with the polite, quick service, perfect for work week lunching. As always the guacamole was fresh and tasty, and shrimp tacos hearty, tasty, and nicely presented.
I am a local but I dined with two out-of-town guests. I ordered the pescado primavera (fish Veracruz style), one guest ordered the trio of enchiladas and the other guest ordered carnitas. We also ordered the guacamole which is made to order tableside. Everything was prepared perfectly. The service was impeccable. We ordered drinks and dessert. The churros were warm and delicious. Our waiter was friendly and while he seemed to be very busy he was timely and gracious. The restaurant was not too busy as it was a Tuesday evening but every table near us was seated. The noise level was not so much as that you could not have a conversation.
Thoroughly enjoy Rosa Mexicano in NYC, gave this DC location a second try after the first one a few months back was horrible. The service was better, still not on point I would expect at this price point. Food was full of flavor, drinks were less than desirable.
Food was delicious and plentiful. Only service complaint, wrong drink brought and forgot appetizer.
The weekend brunch options are fantastic. I'll definitely come back with friends.
Very fresh and authentic experience. Great food quality and service was on point as well.
The food quality has slipped considerably over the last couple of years. The enchilada mole was beautiful looking but was just a little one note. The Camerones quesadillas were not very elevated. I love the restaurant but I’m afraid it’s on the decline.
Our wait person, Nancy, was fantastic - attentive, great sense of humor and she went out of her way to prepare a nice presentation plate, with a candle, for some cupcakes we had bought and brought with us to celebrate our daughter's birthday. At our request, they skipped the whole sombrero happy birthday thing, which my daughter really appreciated. :)
Food was fantastic, too and there were mostly non-drinkers at the table, so the mocktail offerings were particularly welcomed by our group.
Can't wait to come back again!
Food and atmosphere was great! Only downside is we had to wait for 20 minutes even though we had a reservation.
the food was not as tasty as I expected. I can cook better than that.
Food was good. Service was a little slow but that was probably due to a concert that evening and larger crowd than normal.
Dinner before Shawn Mendez concert, extremely busy so service was slow and requests forgotten. Food was ok but not memorable.
Gave 4 stars with consideration for the fact staff was overwhelmed by volume of diners.
Great place to dine before the concert
The service was amazing. We got seated earlier than our reservation time, and our waiter was excellent. We sat outside and it was very nice. However, the food is very pricy for its quality. It is good, but not worth $80 for just two people. I would come again, but I would go for lunch and order different food.
Our server was very attentive and made outstanding recommendations. We will be back!
Good service and menu. Sometimes the reception can be challenging in terms of finding an acceptable or appropriate table.
Waitstaff were not at all knowledgeable about allergens and kitchen is unable to make adaptations for spice allergies. Really, you can’t find a piece of plain chicken in the back?
I never liked guacamole until
I went to Rosa Mexicano! That was about 15 years ago & it’s my go to place in DC for a margarita, chips & guacamole! Their enchiladas Suizas, bean & rice are also favorites. Excellent service too!
Rosa Mexicana is a fun restaurant with great ambiance. Food is ok, not great, but ok.
Great vibe and food. Did lunch one day and was very pleased.
Food was delicious. Service was very friendly but incredibly slow. Waiter apologized profusely. If you like good Mexican, this is worth a trip.
Broad choice of margaritas, but La Tradicional is a great choice. Table side quacamole is very good and willingly adjusted to individual taste. Chicken quesadillas were the only disappointment — chicken tasty, but not enough cheese. Everything else was great.
Very nice experience. Would go again.
Was great for a Sunday brunch! Would recommend thi give it a try soon.
Having been to Rosa Mexicano in NYC and MN many times I was looking forward to an amazing up scale experience.
Upon arriving the hostess was fighting with another customer that they were about to seat.
Upon using the restroom I could smell the bathroom from outside it literally smelled like a cage in the zoo. My associate also experienced two guys mock fighting in the restroom and one of the guys told him that his girl friend left him and he said he was high on coke.
We then ordered mild guacamole before dinner and asked it to be mild it arrived spicy as can be.
Next they had the shades drawn by our window side table and some guys were banging on the window and none of the staff did anything.
Food was rushed and beyond the experience I expected.
The DC location needs serious quality control and cleaning staff.
The food was great. My disappointment was having to repeatedly ask for a second drink. We ordered them and had to remind the servers multiple times we hadn't received them.
Food, location and atmosphere were great, and spoke for themselves, however our server seemed less than happy to be there.
Waiter was horrible, took forever to get his attention. Had better food at Uncle Julio’s...never going to this place again
The tacos and the pomegranate magarita is amazing. This place has the best tres leche
Absolutely excellent service! My server thought my portion looked small and took it upon herself to bring me a new one. I hadn’t even noticed!
Event night at Cap One Arena. Clearly overbooked by a lot.
I do not recommend for show nights. Walk a few blocks away - it’s worth it.
We had a long wait due to a concert that most people were attending. Ended up with 15 minutes to eat, so we couldn't really enjoy our food. The bar actually made a mistake and made 2 sets of drinks for us, but we couldn't enjoy the second one because we had so little time.
We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time and then got watery queso fundido and lackluster pollo budin. We have been going to Rosa a long time and this time the food was the worst by far.
Great place to eat, Right across the street from the capital one center… So extremely convenient. Can’t get any closer to the metro center.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. It’s our favorite restaurant to go to before a show.
