About Rosa Mexicano by Lincoln Center

Our highly anticipated second Rosa Mexicano location opened in July 2000. Just steps away from Lincoln Center, this impressive David Rockwell-designed space features a 30-foot iridescent blue tile water wall that spans both levels of the restaurant and is adorned with 240 miniature cliff divers. Here you’ll also find a dramatic “floating” staircase made of orange and red terrazzo slabs and backlit panels behind the bar embedded with rose petals. Awarded “Best Restaurant 2000” by Interiors Magazine, this unique, contemporary look ushered in a new era for us at Rosa Mexicano.

Perfect for dining before events at Lincoln Center, but be sure to make a reservation. Deliciously prepared and attractively presented gourmet Mexican food, in abundant portions, in elegant, modern ambiance. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. Also, vegetarian friendly.

I've always loved Rosa Mexicano and the Lincoln Center restaurant is a great choice if you're going to concert/opera/ballet @ Lincoln Center. Our table was upstairs and I think it's more quiet up rather than downstairs. The guac was terrific as was my fish tacos. The 58th street restaurant used to have a delicious pork chop entree which I did not see on this menu.

Best fresh, tableside-made guacamole. Also love the pomegranate margarita!

What happened?? Rosa Mexicano used to be dependably good. Even the guacamole was below average- and it's hard to believe it was just an off night. None of the dishes were better than mediocre - and that included the margarita's. Don't bother!

We enjoyed everything about our evening.
The food was delicious, presentation was beautiful, service was excellent and table side guacamole was very good. Prices were reasonable. My only complaint was that the dishes could have been heated through a little longer. It was a very busy night and they were preparing a lot of meals. I would still definitely go back!!

Trendy and hip, not the typical Mexican food. More flavored and higher quality. Food is quite salty to taste. Decent restaurant outing. Impressive for out of towners.

We ate here before heading to a show at New York City Center. The food was fantastic and the service was great. The bar area is a fun hangout but usually very crowded, so I was happy to be seated at the back of the restaurant which was a lot less noisy for our date night! Highly recommend eating here!

Lovely restaurant, ate on the second floor, great views of Lincoln Center. Fresh made table-side Guacamole was delicious. The server was not that nice, maybe he had a bad day. Plan on going back.

We arrived exactly 15 minutes late due to traffic. We were informed that our table was given away and the hostess informed us only a table downstairs was available. Since we had a show and the hostess was less than helpful, not sure when a table upstairs would be available, we took the table. It was a 2 top by a wall and it wobbled. We asked the waiter to fix it and was informed it could not be done. It was the table itself not the legs, so we balanced as we ate. The restrooms are upstairs and when my husband came back and informed me that there were about 10 - 4 tops open I was annoyed. When I went upstairs to use the bathroom, I asked to speak to a manager. The guacamole which is one of their staple, had way too much onions and due to where our table could not be done tableside. I went upstairs a few minutes after the guacamole came to the table. I explained to the manager that we are repeat customers , open table members and I always give them good reviews, this time I would not. I explained that the hostess was rude, and while I understand that they are busy, she could have been a little more accommodating. By the time Carolyn and I returned to the table, our dinner was already being served. Their timing was certainly off that night as well. Carolyn offered to move us but with the food already there we opted to stay. Carolyn came back a little while later to see how we were doing and to informed us she was paying for our dinner. I told her absolutely not but she insisted. Although I must tell you that we really did not enjoy the food, my husband and I shared the guacamole, a baja shrimp quesadilla, and plaintains and a flan, Carolyn, one of the Managers, was a professional. I am not sure we will venture back anytime soon, but Carolyn certainly turned a very disappointing dinner into a nice gesture on her part.

Had a pre-Lincoln center dinner here. AS is well known, drinks and guacamole are a good buy. However, dinner items were sub-par and uninteresting. Rice and beans were warmed over and incredibly bad. How do you ruin rice and beans? Service was also problematic, as others have reported. Bottom line, this restaurant serves as a place for a quick bite before attending a Lincoln Center event. Its only advantage is its location.

Aside from the guacamole, which was very good, the food was awful. Table service was ok (passable); but the maitre’d was indifferent, bordering on obnoxious. In a city with a gazillion good Mexican restaurants, I can’t imagine ever going back to Rosa Mexicana.

My wife and I arrived for a 5p reservation on New Years Day after a performance at Lincoln Center. We were seated within 2 minutes and toasting to the new year within 10 minutes of arrival with some salsa and chips. As usual, Rosa Mexicano did not disappoint. My only gripe with this place is that their sides of rice and beans comes in a bowl that we both shared. Its not a lot of food. We are used to larger portions from another Mexican place we eat at which actually is on par with Rosa Mexicano. If you ever on Austin Street in Queens, check out 5 Burros. Their frozen maragaritas are no joke, their food is on par with Rosa Mexicano. The ambience is completely different though... Rosa Mexicano is appropriate after coming out of Lincoln Center, 5 Burros is more of a rock and roll scene but do not be discouraged by the decor, it rocks. Overall, Rosa Mexicano is a really nice place to end up after a performance at Lincoln Center. Hoghly recommended.

Very different restaurant. We went there eleven years ago and we didn't forget. Mostly the kids (now aged 24 and 21), wanted to repeat the experience. They are fans of mexican food and prepare this guacamole frequently at home; not so good though.
The service was very kind but the food could be a little better. The value is a bit over the experience.
The location, ambience and the view are fantastic.

This review is for the Lincoln Center location. I had a drink at the bar while waiting for a friend to arrive. Observed both bartenders wiping their noses with their hands and then handling glasses and bar napkins. Also, one of the bartenders grabbed some chips for himself, with his bare hands, from the same chip bin that was being served to the clients at the bar. Then he dipped a chip into the chip dip that was below the bar, with his bare hands...the same sauce that is served to the clients at the bar. It was a complete turn off.

My guest and I wanted to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal. Having been to Rosa Mexicano many times, we picked here to go. We arrived early, and the place was pretty empty. I was surprised to be seated downstairs despite having a reservation, while the upstairs is much nicer. I didn't complain, but it was annoying that our server was overly attentive. It was as though we were in a fast-food restaurant. The people next to us came in five minutes after us, and they ate three large courses and were gone in 23 minutes. Our server kept asking us if we were ready to order yet, even after we told him we wanted to relax and enjoy our cocktails before ordering an appetizer. Well, we had four opportunities to order the appetizer after that. He wasn't obnoxious, but we obviously should have gone elsewhere if we wanted to have a quiet dinner that lasted longer than 45 minutes. The food was good, but a little on the bland side ... despite our asking for "spicy" versions.

Heading to Lincoln Center for the Nutcracker with my daughter and grandkids and enjoyed our pre-ballet meal here, selected for convenience. The service was great; the pre-main dish guacamole made on the spot was a huge hit with the kids and delicious. My pescado primavera was fresh and delicious. My daughter enjoyed the vegetarian dish. All in all a success.
