Rosa Mexicano is a fine restaurant with an excellent menu with many choices for those who have diet restrictions. There are choices for those who eat either vegetarian or for those who have a more varied diet.
The wait staff was very attentive and
Pro: Food is generally good; cooked and seasoned well and served at the proper temperature. The salad was the low point as explained below. Regular Margarita was outstanding. It is the best I've had since I was last at the Cadillac Bar in Nuevo Laredo many years ago.
Con: The Caesar salad was dreadful. A Caesar salad is not made with anchovy oil. The menu should not list the salad as being Caesar whether a Mexican version or not. Caesar salads have a very specific dressing that delicately balances specific flavors and that dressing does not include any fish oils. It is not a good idea to tamper with what is known as a Caesar salad. I am sure that Caesar Cardini would be appalled with what was being called a Caesar salad in this restaurant. Avoid it unless you like an overpowering anchovy flavor an ingredient that kills all of the classic flavors of a Caesar salad. Here is a piece of history on that point: " Oh! And all that “a real Caesar Salad has anchovies” rubbish? That came about when Caesar’s brother, Alex Cardini, eventually opened a chain of restaurants in Mexico City, where he also featured Caesar Salad on his menu. The only difference between his version and the traditional Caesar Salad? He added anchovies, (whyyyyyy?!) and this tweak is still a popular addition for Caesar Salads in many restaurants. (Blech!)"
Couldn’t be more pleased with the service and food!
We went here for its location, and weren't disappointed, as we just had to cross the street to get to the Met. Menu was a bit limited, but enough to choose from. Drinks were very good but on the expensive side, while the food was priced more reasonably. Good-sized portions, enough to fill you up but not feel overstuffed. Service fine, but could have been a bit more attentive. We'd probably go again if we were heading for a Lincoln Center event, but wouldn't go out of our way otherwise.
Great food and Service. We were going to an event at Lincoln Center so, it was perfectly located!
My group was so disappointed. We've eaten at other locations and it's always a win.
Maybe this was an off afternoon but the food was bland - even the guacomole - and cold. My 8-year-old said his beef taco tasted like steak gummy's. The rice and beans was more like rice and bean paste.
I will give credit for the service. They tried. They remade the guacamole and bought us lime upon request which we added (because they don't), along with salt. oh, and by the way, neither of two salt shakers worked. We had to open them and delicately pour from the shaker.
And the server also brought my mojito back for adjustment.
Great location if you're going to Lincoln Center so I hope things get better.
Loved everything about the place, great food, great service and nice looking restaurant with lots of windows. It accommodates large parties easily and comfortably. We particularly enjoyed the large and delicious quesadillas.
I have eaten at the union square restaurant a number of years ago. Felt that the restaurant was like a cheap tgi fridays. Food was not great. It’s such a shame but I won’t be returning
Had to wait more then a half an hour to be seated for a 6:15 reservation and we arrived ten minutes early!
No waiting area, so you feel like you’re in everyone’s way while waiting to be called!
Excellent! Always love the atmosphere and the food. Fun place to go with friends.
Loved it. Service was excellent!
Hope to be back there sometime soon
Great meeting place near Lincoln center. Fantastic service and great Mexican food.
The food, as always, was delicious. However, it was annoying that the hostess refused to move us (away from an extremely loud table), stating that the upstairs was going to be closed early. This was approximately 8:00 on a Monday. When I used the restroom after dinner, the upstairs was open and quiet.
This kind of behavior is what makes customers decide to whom to give their business. Restaurant owners should be aware that host/hostess attitude has a direct and often negative impact on their reputation and income.
All the various dishes of our meal at Rosa Mexicano were really good! (We live in California so we've eaten a lot of Mexican food to compare with.) The staff were super helpful, and the meal was served excellently and very quickly, which was most helpful as we were running a little late for the opera.
Rosa Mexicano never disappoints- the food is always delicious and the menu changes providing variety. Noise level is not too loud as we can hear each other in conversation without shouting.
Rosa Mexicano is a good friend’s favorite restaurant in the area and we have shared very good meals there. This wasn’t one of them. We decided on brunch and were disappointed from beginning to end. Pomegranate margaritas were weak and tasteless as if lacking liquor. Guacamole was blah, barely chopped and lacking flavor. Cornbread served with eggs Benedict was best part of meal but could have been warmer. Eggs were too well done for poached. All in all, a poor excuse for an expensive meal for my friends 90th birthday celebration.
Got to the restaurant 10 minutes early and although very crowded, got seated right away. Service was excellent as usual. I had the carnitas which came with rice and beans and pineapple. Every part of the meal was excellent. The pineapple was surprising fantastic. The spices on it made the dish, although it wasn’t spicy. I ended up taking home almost half the meal as the portions were very large. Been there many times and always walk away with a smile. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city. It is a bit expensive for dinner but well worth the price.
Dinner after the theater.
Our only criticism is that we had to wait over 20 minutes for our reservation and there is no good place to wait...and noisy.
But once we went upstairs and were seated, things completely turned around. The service was great and so were the food and drinks. Everything was delicious.
Food is always fantastic with excellent service to match.
We booked a table for lunch - after the Big Apple Circus show at Lincoln Center. The restaurant is conveniently located across from the Center. I had mis-calculated when to reserve, arriving
at the restaurant a full 40 minutes early! While luck probably was with us that day - given how
popular this venue is - I want to also credit the Hosts and all the staff, who were very accommodating...
and ultimately squeezed us in without, as it turned out, a long wait. With a party of 7 (including
3 children - ages 9,6 & 4), this restaurant is very kid-friendly (kid menu, crayons and plastic cups!).
The food also has plenty of gluten-free options - which also accomodated one of the adults in our party.
Everything was great. What a surprise find - so convenient for Lincoln Center. Thank you!
Went after matinee. Glad we had reservation. Sat upstairs. Good Mexican with some unusual dishes. Nice attentive waiter.
Pleasant surroundings and generally good service . Other than the guacamole prepared at table side, the food is just mediocre and overpriced.
Rosa is a staple for us, love this place! Food is amazing and the service is truly Mexican, meaning efficient, friendly and professional.
Terrific on all counts. Great ambience, menu selection, outstanding service.
Special kudos to our waiter, Napoleon, who was extraordinarily attentive and assured that our dining was a wonderful pleasure.
We were there for a pre-theater dinner. The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded and, even so, the service wasn't great. And the food seemed to be very bland. Even the guacamole, which we ordered medium, had no spice at all. And I did not get the dish I ordered--didn't bother to change it because I didn't want to take the time. The food was OK but not up to former standards. We love Mexican food and have been here often, so we were especially disappointed.
Terrific dinner. Minor complaint: the chile rellano should have had more cheese inside, less rice.
Cocktails seemed a bit weak but good.
Our meals were both good and our waiter was attentive.
We went before a broadway show and they were very efficient! Guacamole was incredible and they make it next to your table. Drinks were amazing and the enchiladas are to die for!
The quesadilla were dry and burnt and there was only dried out over cooked
No discernible cheese
This restaurant is always great. The food is delicious and such a great value. One note it is on the corner of 62nd street - not 61st. Worth the walk to find.
The waiter never came back to take our order. Eventually we had to flag down the manager who waited on us and then halfway through the meal says that X would be our waitress and taking care of us from here on out. She never came back to our table and we had to ask the bus boy for our check.
New Years Eve fabulous value
We had NYE dinner here. Menu was good and service was even better.
New Year’s Eve...was a little loud because everyone was celebrating, including us! So much fun!
Comida buena, servicio excelente, ambiente regular. Caro!
We were there for New Years Eve with grandchildren who are picky eaters.
The service was great and food very good. Also nicely decorated for New Years.
Food was good but pricey. Service was ok. Overall a bit below the value for money.
Cousins in from abroad and wanted to enjoy a dinner after the ballet.
