I have a very sensitive stomach and normally cannot eat Mexican food. Rosa Mexicana and their wait staff always helps me find something delicious and they prepare it without putting me at risk. Without even telling me the waiter put the sauce on the side last night and I was able to enjoy the meal! Delicious fish ad shrimp and veggies. My boyfriend enjoyed the more flavorful, spicy experience and he didn’t have to worry that I would not be able to enjoy my meal. Thank you rosa Mexicana. Fun night out!! Always a fun vibe and we had a great time.
So I made a reservation for my birthday, and on the reservation it said is this is a special occasion, I wrote birthday, yet nothing was done to acknowledge it.
The grilles shrimp cam with only 4 shrimps not worth the price
Really enjoyed being back at Rosa Mexicano. They clearly value new hygiene guidelines. As before, drinks and food were delicious!
really good food, in beautiful surroundings. I always get the budin. Great bar with selection of tequilas' and margaritas.
I have been going to Rosa Mexicano for 38 years, dating back to the small original location on the Upper East Side. I was a regular customer and knew Josefina Howard, the original owner of the restaurant. The point is I go way back and I have a keen knowledge of the quality and style of the cooking at Rosa Mexicano.
Josefina would be irate if she knew what has become of her life’s work. I had lunch yesterday at the Lincoln Center location with a friend I hadn’t seen in 32 years. The food was inedible. I typically order the same thing - I start with guacamole and finish with Enchiladas de Mole Poblano. The guacamole was tiny, mashed up, and not spicy, which is the way it was ordered. The enchiladas were thick and mealy, the chicken inside was very small and the mole did not resemble what I expect from Rosa Mexicano. The only thing that remained great was the Pomegranate Margarita's which was exactly as it has always been.
Someone has dropped the ball at Rosa. I will never go back to the Lincoln Center location and am hesitant to go back to the upper east side location if the food is the same.
We spent $250 for lunch and it was a complete waste. For those thinking about going to Rosa Mexicano, I would suggest that you have a drink and eat elsewhere. As a side note, I have never written a review of a restaurant. Not once in my 60 years. That's how strongly I feel about our experience. I hope this was helpful to an owner that might read this or a customer that is considering Rosa Mexicano for a meal. Go to Maya on the upper east side. They know what they are doing, unlike Rosa.
It had a very nice atmosphere.
We loved this place for the food and for the people there
Food was excellent. The Guacamole was to die for. We had two orders of it. Had five different tacos and they were all delicious. Server was pleasant and attentive.
Something has happened to Rosa Mexicano and it's not good. I love this place - have been a customer for years - but my triumphant return to inside dining was not glorious. The tableside guacamole comes from the kitchen - okay, I accept that - the price was the same but the portion in the iconic volcanic bowl was easily 1/3 smaller. Fewer chips provided too. What's going on, Rosa?
The restaurant was nice. We were celebrating Mother’s Day. The issue we had was, the main dish came before the appetizer. I eventually asked to Bring both at the same time. We were waiting for the dessert over 10 minutes. The Waiter came without it and asked if we were ready for the bill. It seems like bad communication between the kitchen and the waiters.
We went for Mothers day, the place looks very authentic, like being in Mexico but the food is nothing special. The Guacamole came with zero salt, it was completely tasteless... far to be close to mexico. The carnitas were OK, the queso fundido as well.... Overall fine.. but I do not think I'll go back there are much better Mexican options in NYC...
solid, regional cooking; deep depths of flavors; always consistent; always an enjoyable meal
If you don't mind loud conversations, competing with the music system and barking dogs that can be heard indoors. Go for it. The food is delicious as are the Margaritas.
We had requested a table by the windows and they were not able to accommodate it.
The food quality wasn't as great as what we have had there, in the past.
The waiter was good, but the hosts were not friendly nor attentive. When we left, not one said "good-bye" even though they were standing by the front door without any customers around them.
The waiter was friendly, but seemed over worked. He had 2 large tables at the back of the restaurant and we always had to flag him down. He barely had time to check in with us. The steak I had was luke warm and the enchilada was cold.
This restaurant was always a great, solid place to eat. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill, and I can no longer recommend it.
I’ll give the place consistent high marks for the service. You never have to wait long for anything you may want or need. All courses came out promptly. We enjoyed all of our meals except one person who found their dish too salty. But 75% of the time we come to this location, everything is top notch. So a once-in-a-while “meh” for anything they serve isn’t enough to not return for the overall top notch experience. This location has a nice, upscale vibe and clientele. Will return.
Returned to in restaurant dining at RM. Great service, great food and an attentive and thoughtful waitstaff were all appreciated. We will be back.
Used to love this Rosa and really sad about the decline in food quality in the last few years. My enchiladas were gloppy and not in a good way.
The entrees of two different steak dishes, the dessert of tres leches and coffee, and the margaritas throughout were delicious. We sat on the second floor where we had plenty of space, a great open view from the window, minimum noise, and wonderful service. Gracias!!!
Food was delicious!
They don't have a good food anymore. The food was cold.
Overall a mediocre experience. Our waiter was virtually non existent and could care less!!!
Will not return.
Always a beautiful ambiance, friendly service, and wonderful food! The social distancing and respectful Covid practices couldn’t have been better. We’ve been coming since 2005, and have never once been disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
It was a nice experience. Those churros were not freshly baked, they were definitely taken out the freezer/fridge and warmed up. I understand mass production but I’ve tasted better. My main course was delicious. It’s Americanized Mexican food, but I had a good time. Ambiance was perfect. I would return.
Great appetizers, good drinks, food was a bit meh. One of the dishes came out a bit cold.
One dish of food arrived cold, but was replaced right away. Restaurant is nice, pleasant, with very good Mexican food but service was a little slow in the beginning.
We always have a great experience whether with friends, date night or family
Great food and margaritas
The server was overworked and left us needing to wave him down more than once but good for the restaurant that they are so busy the server can’t keep up. Now is the time to rehire staff. Otherwise, it was a Rosa Mexicano dinner as usual. Delightful.
Service was a bit slow unusual for this restaurant. I assume the management hasn’t adjusted to larger crowds.
Great food, drinks and service. A favorite restaurant.
Nice spot. Good food. Location was perfect as we were staying at Columbus Circle area:
Always consistently good. Frozen margs are the best.
Great food, great ambiance & great staff. We go to Rosa Mexicano every time we go to the City from Connecticut.
As always I enjoyed my meal at Rosa's, but I was a bit shocked that entrees now longer included rice and beans. Seems an unwise way to economize; please re-thing this.
Lovely, yummy dinner out w our 13 year old daughter - consistently great food, friendly and professional waitstaff, contemporary atmosphere
My go to spot for upscale Mexicans food.. ambience is fantastic and the service is fantastic!
