About Rosa Mexicano - Boston
In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened in New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano"s menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, prepared in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared tableside and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes the 15 foot water wall.

Rosa Mexicano - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Wife, myself, and our two daughters (9 & 11) were out and about and decided we were in the mood for Mexican. Very impressed with the flavors, we all made a point to order something we hadn't had before, and none of us were disappointed. The guacamole was also amazing. Loved the decor for dia de los muertos.
We got seated right away. The server gave us a great recommendation on cocktails and they were delicious. A bit spicy but perfect combo with the meal. They make the guacamole right in front of you and it’s by far the best guacamole I’ve ever had. Overall, great experience.
Overall really nice dining experience. Waiter was very friendly and attentive. Their margaritas are great! Food is pretty spicey so make sure to ask about how spicey your meal is before you order. Lighting is a little dark and the tables are kind of big for a 2 person so you have to speak loudly to have a conversation.
Table side guac is amazing! I found the salmon to be very good, but actually too big! I would have paid the same amount for 1/2 the serving. And make sure to ask your waitstaff how spicy something is. The waitstaff is instructed only to "warn" if it's a 8 or above. My friend ordered something that was considered a "7" (however nowhere on the menu does it say what level it is). He could hardly finish it, very spicy!
We always celebrate our anniversary with Mexican food. This was our first visit to Rosa Mexicano. They offer delicious upscale Mexican food (not your average neighborhood place) that was beautifully presented with well-balanced hand-crafted cocktails. We were delightfully surprised by the variety of tequilas they offered. The service was lovely and they were very attentive to us. We will definitely return with friends and family soon!
I was looking forward to a quiet dinner, and booked a reservation. Unfortunately, the restaurant was hosting a large halloween party at the same time, so it was very noisy, crowded and uncomfortable. If they had notified me of the concurrent party, I wouldn't have booked the reservation. Very disappointing. But food and service were very good.
The service was superb, our waiter returned often to make sure our needs were met, we were very impressed and ensured that our happiness was reflected in the tip. The red wine sangria was good, as were the chips and guacamole. The carnitas entree was well seasoned but the portion size was rather meagre. I will dine there again to try another entree.
Started with delicious margaritas and handmade guacamole. Dinner was very tasty but not memorably delicious. Service was more attentive than average with a friendly conversation. I eat here with some frequency because it's solidly reliable. Note it's in Seaport area in Boston so prices will be high.
The budin de pollo, Puebla Braised chicken tinga layered with soft corn tortillas, Chihuahua cheese, roasted Mexican peppers and grilled corn served over poblano cream sauce, was fantastic! See attached photo. I highly recommend the Guacamole en molcajete appetizer, which is made table-side and customized to your desired level of spiciness.
My boyfriend and I came here during our trip to Boston. We loved everything about it. Great food portions, friendly and professional stuff, and it had a great vibe. It was close to our hotel in the seaport area, and it was nice that it had other options than just seafood. I would definitely recommend Ross Mexicano.
I was excited to try this restaurant per Phantom Gourmet and my daughter, who goes to Suffolk. We ordered the "table side guacamole" which was made somewhere else and brought to us. That being said, it was the best guac we've ever had! We ordered the corn on the cob...it came as one big over ripe cob slathered with accouterments...needed more lime and less mayo...was hoping for the three small cobs so we could share but it's now a one cob deal. My meal was eh. My daughter had the beef tacos and they were ok. My husband had a chicken dish on top of a cream save. He LIVED it! I thought it lacked flavor. The desserts??? AMAZING!!! Save room. The margaritas were so strong I ordered wine instead.
Food was very good although a bit pricey in some areas : $15 for a small portion of guacamole made at the table and $14 for a rather weak margarita . beers were fine and the enchiladas, fish tacos, and shrimp tacos excellent. Our waiter was very good- attentive but not obtrusive. We got the table we reserved - quiet, away from doors which we appreciated a lot! recommend, especially since the staff were very nice and seated us about 40 minutes early since it was 5pm and cold and rainy.
Wanted the food to be better than it was. Not that all of the food was terrible, but none of it was great. I had Mole Pablano , my wife ordered Pollo Adabado (Chicken fajitas), we had the queso fundido as an app, both had (2) margaritas and with tip the bill came to $160. We were out for a nice dinner so I don't mind paying a little extra for good food and better service but something was lacking in both. The salsa they bought with fresh chips started things off well, we both really enjoyed the salsa. The queso app was very bad. It came out in a cast skillet but was just a solid glop of cheese that over time separated and became a glop of cheese sitting in milky, watery fluid. My Mole was good to very good but my wife's fajitas were average at best. Margaritas were good but nothing great. The service was ok but felt like they should be more attentive considering it wasn't that busy when we were there. My wife asked for flour tortillas with her dinner and got corn. The waiter never came back and asked how our food was and I had to flag him down to order the second round of margaritas. I will look for a better Mexican experience next time I am in the Seaport.
The food was just ok. We got their version of fajitas. One chicken, and the other steak. The meat and peppers were good. It came out in a skillet with too much cheese and cheese juices all over the meat and the peppers. Would not recommend this dish to friends. The guacamole was good as were the drinks. Don't think we will return here.
I've only been to Rosa Mexicano a few times now - once in Miami and a couple of times in Boston. Every time has been a joy! The tableside guacamole is a treat, as is the super fresh and delicious ceviche. The cocktails (especially the frozen pomegranate margarita and the super smoky poblano infused margarita!) are strong and delicious. The location - especially in Boston in the now-trendy Seaport District right across the street from Boston Harbor - is excellent as well. But what has made each trip particularly special has been the pleasant, helpful and attentive staff - there when you need and want them with smiling faces, not hovering but not leaving you hanging either. They truly get what hospitality is about and it makes being a patron there feel like a treat. We'll keep coming back for more.
We ate here on our last night in Boston for different flavor than all the seafood we had been eating. That was a great decision! My husband had the carnitas and I got the quesadilla tinga and They were both fantastic! Full of flavor and perfectly tender! The accompanying sauces were a great match for each of the dishes....not too overbearing. I will have to say though, the carnitas won between the two. I had to switch over and help my husband with them bc they were that good! Would definitely go back again. The server was super attentive and anticipated all of our needs the entire meal!
Ambience, service, appetizers, drinks were all excellent. There were 5 people in our party and it was unanimous that our entrees were just "okay" and I disliked my fish dish. I guess that's what you get for ordering fish at a Mexican restaurant? Would return for drinks and apps but not dinner.
I've tried many Rosa Mexicano's (3 in NYC and both Miami ones) all served great food. The Boston one was a real disappointment compared to the others. This is a far cry from the original Rosa's on the upper east side. Service was pleasant and efficient, drinks were good, a few of the dishes were ok but most were not very good.
