The breading in the calamari appetizer was light and tasty. The crust on the pizza is rather crispy, slightly different from other thin crust pizzas. Glad I ordered extra fresh mozzarella- very tasty. Pizza sauce is slightly sweet.
Karen, Thank you for leaving such nice a nice review! I'm glad you enjoyed and I hope to see you again soon. Nick White - General Manager
Food is amazing. Service could be improved. I asked for Parmesan and red pepper flakes and it took 20 minutes to get them.
Roots staff was very attentive and courteous, service was good, pizza was delicious and they have a fairly extensive drink menu. It's a huge space with lots of room and it had a decent number of people but wasn't crowded. My friends and I could actually hear each other talk. I would definitely recommend it. Bonus points for MASSIVE mozzarella sticks.
Great customer service especially with kids in the mix. Friendly and helpful staff. Pizza is always amazing.
Anon, Thanks for leaving a review. I love reading positive notes about the staff I hope to see you again soon. Nick White - General Manager
I’m a vegan, love the choices!
I'm so glad you were able to find a good variety of choices that fit your taste. Did you know we designed our cocktail menu at The Sixth to match vegan appetites as well?
Kid friendly & roomy - great spot for families & casual get-togethers
The food never disappoints and the service is prompt and courteous.
Would highly recommend. Pizza was great, only complaint is they didn’t have my go-to margarita pizza, but I customized and it was so good. Next time I’m in Chicago I’ll be back
The food was good- no complaints there. However, our server, while very nice, was difficult to find and barely came to check on us when we were ready to order or for more drinks. It was also a chilly, windy evening....inside the restaurant. There was cold air blowing on several people/tables from the vents above and on the floor - as evidenced by people putting hats and jackets on. We mentioned it to our server twice, but there was no change. I’d be hard pressed to recommend this place based on this experience.
We have always gone to Roots, but decided to try the new Brunch menu...it was delish...we will be going back again. It took a long time for our order to get to our table which was the reason for 4 stars, but maybe because we were first customers at opening and a new menu? A little expensive, but still tasty, so we will go back again. Very kid friendly.
Roots is by far one of our absolute favorite places to go. Not just because their pizza is the bomb but their beer selection is on 🔥 👌 and their service great. P.s. hands down best mozzarella sticks ever.
Although the mozzarella sticks are delicious, I probably wouldn't purchase them again because of the price.
Awesome pizza and incredible panza sticks. I will be coming back for this delicious handmade food. :)
I was very happy with my experience at Roots! I recently started a gluten free diet at the request of my doctor and Roots had a great selection of options for me to choose from, including a gluten free beer and cider menu. The service was prompt and it was a quiet atmosphere in spite of quite a few kids in the dining room.
Will definitely be adding this to our list of frequented neighborhood spots!
The pizza was not good at all. We got the garden pizza which was just veggies. The veggies weren’t fresh at all and tasted like they were out of a can.
We had an unfortunately poor experience at this restaurant. The restaurant was not even full, but it took an hour to receive our entrees. Additionally, we asked two people for silverware and eventually went to another table that some diners abandoned to take theirs (see final comment re: TVs and noise). We had our whole family with us and hunger was getting to the kids. Additionally, a show came on NBC (Titans) and suddenly all the TVs were on and the volume was way up (it was later turned down). I've eaten there before but this was a major disappointment. Just wanted to take the family out for a quick dinner and it became an adventure. The food was good, but for the service and everything else, we won't be back.
Great place to take our grandchildren to. Fun for them and good food
Went to Roots for a Sunday afternoon Bears game. Great place to explore the vast beer menu, eat pizza, and enjoy the game on the many TVs.
Thanks for that great feedback Thomas! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Did you know that every beer on that vast menu is made in the midwest? #MidwestIsBest
The pizza’s not that good. But it’s not super expensive so it gets the job done.
Outstanding mozzarella sticks, sweet tasty marinara sauce, and yummy chicken wings. Pizza was a bit disappointing.
Get the mozzarella sticks. Fantastic. Outstanding beer selection.
Roots is our go to family restaurant. The food is always outstanding and the service is friendly and quick. It is well worth joining the loyalty program!
Delicious!
Food was very good but strong sewer smell by the restrooms hubby said mens room smell was so bad he couldn't believe it so in other words get take out
Back again- this time tried the Fold Overs, tried two different ones, both great. It was also half price wine bottle night, bonus for us! Sat at the bar this time, great bartender.
Mid-week meet up with a friend, good food/ good atmosphere.
The flavor of the fig pizza and the “Big Mac” pizzas were amazing. Would like a softer crust. But otherwise great. Worth the trip.
AWESOME
Food 👍👍
Service 🙌
You cannot go wrong.
Food was so good, one of our pizzas was like a Big Mac on a pizza- it was outstanding.
Irvin was our waiter, exceptional!!
We were celebrating a 50th birthday, dropped off a cake in advance along with birthday fun stuff, all were delivered to the table in style and great timing by manager Nick W-
Spectacular night!!
Cannot wait to go back
I went out to eat with a friend and her baby. We got there fairly early (6:15) on a weeknight and there were a lot of families. The cocktails were great and pizza was good. I'm not a fan of their sausage since it was crumbled. I prefer large chunks.
Nacho pizza! What more could you want?!
I've eaten at Roots on Chicago several times. This location had the worst pizza I've ever had. The toppings and all were great but the crust was absolutely HORRIBLE. You have something called a "crispy" crust and then you have a crust that is just short of being a "rock." Being short of a rock is what I got. I ate about half of my pizza only because I was really very hungry. I wanted to leave the other half but my friends told me to take it and give it to some needy person. I took it but then ended up dumping it anyway. Felt wrong to even give it to someone needy.
For beer and pizza lovers. Great food and lots of both draft and bottled brews. We had the artichoke dip and the short rib pizza both delicious! My only complaint was that it was super noisey inside. Its kid friendly so lots of screaming children but we decided to move our seating to their outside area. Turned out perfect!
Waiter was a bit stand offish and not very attentive. Found myself having to try and get his attention with no success. Food was really good but a bit expensive for a neighborhood pizza joint. Overall a good experience, I would go back.
Consistently good pizza and service. I always start with the mozzarella sticks.
Our fist time here it was for Fathers day celebration. Loved the food and the beer selection! Staff was great and friendly. The restaurant was kid friendly as well. Will definitely be back.
We love Roots. It's perfect pizza with a great bar and kid-friendly. it's a regular Friday night go to for us.
This is our go-to family place. They keep kids entertained with their activity menus, dough balls, and open kitchen viewing area. The service is always great, and the food is absolutely delicious every time.
Vegan pizza is awesome
Great wait staff. Amazing salads. Amazing crust on pizzas. Great place to bring kids. 8 year old birthday girl truly loved playing with pizza dough
Great beer selection and pizza selection. Crust is very good.
Good, different type of pizza joint!
