Roots & Revelry
Roots & Revelry departs from the norm by modernizing fine dining. It’s haute with casual undertones, southern with international influences.
Fantastic atmosphere, food was executed perfectly and very balanced. Wine selection was well thought out, and paired with our meal. One of my best dining experiences in Birmingham. The lamb was expertly prepared and extremely tender, and the PB and J is always a favorite. 10/10 will dine here again.
Amazing ambience, outstanding service, delicious food.
Amazing food and the perfect place to hangout and talk! Incredible wIt staff and love the ambiance!
This is the first time my husband and I have been here. We went for brunch and were pleased with the menu. Our server told us of the specials of the day and several recommendations. Our food was beautifully presented and brought to us in a timely manner. It was absolutely delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We will definitely go back again.
Booked a late reservation and were very well taken care of.
Food was amazing. Service was friendly but on the slow end. Drinks arrived after all courses so it may have been a bar issue. Otherwise would definitely return!
Four of us met at Roots and Revelry for dinner reservations around 730. The PB&J (pork belly, cashew butter, and quince) was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It was phenomenal. The rest of the meal was delicious as well, but the PB&J will be remembered for years. We also had the lumpia as an appetizer, which were crunchy and flavorful. The dipping sauce was quite tasty. Seared duck was tender and flavorful. The steak was lackluster- no real prominent or strong flavors. I thought it was overall bland. The roasted chicken was similar. I didn’t try the fried pork ribs but was told they were phenomenal. We had the “breakfast for dinner” for dessert. It was the perfect balance of sweet with the sweet cream on the side. The bread pudding was a little too firm on top, as if it had been baked too long.
Excellent food but noisy.
I ordered the roasted duck breast which was a little under cooked for my taste. Also- roasted veggies would have complimented the duck better that grits.
The bartender Nick was great and very personable and knew a lot about different whiskeys
The service was soo poor. we had a reservation at 10:30 and was sat immediately. It took 30 minutes to place our appetizer order and didn’t walk out until 12:15. The table next to us came in 45 min after us and walked out at the same time. I was so disappointed. The food and drinks were good, but I can’t stand bad service.
The food was very good. I loved the hanger steak. Everything was average. The server was too cool for us and too busy to be attentive. We tried everything.because of the great reviews I read. I ordered appetizers and what they call (bites). A second course, salad and and a greasy egg roll. The tiramisu was a thick unflavored cheesecake. If your looking for a twist on something your familiar with this is your place. The restaurant Devore is beautiful.
Only reason I’m giving this review 4/5 stars, is because the food service was incredibly slow! It wasn’t even really busy and still took over an hour to receive our food. Everything else was great!
The food, service and ambiance are great. However, the constant unwanted visitors we had at our table made the aforementioned unenjoyable. My family and I kill 10 of the 12 fruit flies that visited our table. Once you solve the fruit fly problem I could recommend this restaurant.
Interesting atmosphere in an old hotel. Very noisy though, not at all conducive to conversations. Maybe it was the wedding reception next door, but the service was very slow from the bar and the kitchen. When we got our food it was average; nothing outstanding. Our server was very nice and apologetic for the long wait. A one-time experience; we will not return.
Food and service were above excellent. The noise level inside was a little high do we decided to eat out on the terrace which was extremely nice. The weather was perfect. Highly recommend!
The food was amazing. The service left something to be desired. We waited over 15 minutes for a glass of wine - not exactly exemplary. Hoping this was just an off day for the server.
Another nice time at an awesome restaurant
Good food! Hidden jewel!!
Always a fabulous meal with lovely atmosphere and wonderful service! Enjoyed several dinners here on the patio and I'm never disappointed!
Excellent meal. The PB&J is very good but filling. I had the flounder on a bed of hoppin john and it was fantastic! My husband had the ribs which were good but not great. The drinks were also good. Nice ambience. Would definitely recommend.
We arrived at were seated right away as we had a reservation. It was almost 10 minutes before a waiter came to our table. Was not friendly at all, never offered to explain anything. Took our drink order and it was another 10 minutes before they arrived. The service was horrendous, all through our time there. The noise level, well let me say you couldn't really hold a conversation without yelling. This was our first time there and it's a shame because I probably will not be back. You have a beautiful place and the food was good. Our waiter and noise forget it😕
Great brunch with food and drinks, nice patio/balcony ambiance. Definitely going back for dinner!
Loved the food. Loved the atmosphere. Loved our waiter.
Our waiter, Kameron, was phenomenal! He was attentive and made sure everything went great. The food was superb. The location was incredible! Can’t wait to return soon!
We had dinner for a party of 11. Food portions were very generous. Several had the Crispy pork ribs. Each portion could have served 2 people. I had spiced duck. Again very generous portions. We ordered several appetizers for the group. The only one I didn't care for was their signature PB&J. Too rich and hard to cut up. We would definitely go back again.
We ordered at 6:40 food arrived at the table at 7:30p it was not very hot. We left the manager paid for our meal
Enjoyed our meal and decor but a little noisy for conversations.
Roots & Revelry is a very good restaurant in an outstanding location, especially on a sunny day. The decor is modern and interesting, but not annoying or intrusive in any way. The waitstaff is well-trained, helpful, and friendly, but like the decor, not intrusive. This is an excellent date restaurant or a terrific way to introduce your high school/college kids to fine dining in a low pressure situation where they'll feel comfortable.
No restaurant with a television (just one over the bar) gets a 5-star rating, but it's quite good.
Everything looks very nice, taste... meh... all show not much substance, the specialty drinks were ok...
Everything was fine.... except the music. The younger people (in their 20s) were complaining about the volume too!!
A little slow on getting the food but it’s delicious once it comes.
Love the decor & ambiance at Roots & Revery. The music at Sunday brunch was fun and upbeat! Our food was wonderful. Service was good, but at the end we had to wait a while to get our check. Other than that, great service too!
Restaurant hard to find (second floor of what looks to be an abandoned hotel), but once you find it, it’s an oasis. Bright, airy, artsy space with great food and excellent service
fabulous place to have a delicious meal with good friends! Beautiful venue and super great service!!
We will definitely return!!
It was our first time here and it was okay but nothing great. The server was overwhelmed with tables so I ran out of wine. Entrees were good but nothing to write home about. I got the RR fish and my husband got the scallops. I got a salad for an appetizer and my husband had their soup du jour. Again nothing great and the soup was under seasoned. Would have been nice to have access to some salt and pepper but our server was so busy we couldn’t get any. Dessert menu looked boring so we just skipped that. Wine was good but by the time I was asked if I wanted another glass I was pretty much done with my meal and I had been out of wine for a while. But the server was nice just overwhelmed. Probably last time. The view was pretty though.
In the past this has been a favorite spot. Great menu, service and drinks. The food was fine but cold when it got to the table.
I'm sad that the service was so lacking here. The food was delicious.
Amazing service and food
