Roots & Revelry
Roots & Revelry departs from the norm by modernizing fine dining. It’s haute with casual undertones, southern with international influences.
What a truly pleasant surprise this turned out to be. Went to dinner with a party of four and got to try many things. The appetizers and the food were all outstanding! We had a very interesting waiter who had visited 36 countries and kept us entertained. On top of all that the location was very old, Art Deco room with high ceilings in a depression era hotel , which added to the charm
I will definitely come back again, perhaps for my daughters graduation.
Discovered upon arriving that Sunday brunch is now a buffet. I am not a fan of that style of serving particularly now with potential health concerns. I enjoy the restaurant and will return for dinner when I can order from menu. I won’t come back for brunch with a buffet.
Hi 5thtimediner! Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback; we appreciate your continued patronage. You asked, and we listened: we're pleased to announce the return of a la carte menu service for brunch, effective March 14th! In addition to the buffet, our menu features our classic Chicken & Waffles, PB&J, Ancho Caesar, and R&R Cheeseburger, as well as new Gulf Omelette & R&R Omelette...all cooked to order.
Food and service were very poor.
Excellent food and service! Highly recommend! You won’t regret it!
Way too loud food quality was not very good. Since the new chef and management is there ist went south
Cool place with good vibe but, unfortunately, food is not good
The amazing staff accommodated us although our large party was super late for our reservation due to the Mercedes Marathon. The service was friendly and their brunch buffet was fantastic - particularly the beignets. We will be back!
The food was so good. Great atmosphere .
It was fine. No issues. Just not a WOW moment. Food was good, maybe a bit too salty.
This is a fantastic spot in Birmingham to grab a delectable dinner. The atmosphere is splendid, being located within a 100 year old building itself is a treat. The service is phenomenal and the food was wonderful.
Food is AMAZING! Brunch buffet exceeded expectations by far. The staff is very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!!
Worst meal I’ve ever had in Birmingham. We went for Valentine’s Day. We were there for more than 3 hours for dinner. All of the prix fixe courses were cold and not edible. The only recourse given was a $50 gift card, which was not nearly enough for a $250 meal. I was embarrassed for the restaurant and really mad I had to pay over $200 for a meal we didn’t even eat. We have been repeat customers to R&R for brunch for many years. This was embarrassing.
Valentines Night - the short menu did not speed anything up. Didn’t get a drink for 40 mins and at table for over an hour before 1st course was served. Not up to Birmingham standards. Should be ashamed.
Took my wife for Valentine’s Day. Would have liked to have seen a normal menu but were led to believe the menu was set for Valentines. It took almost three hours to get through the meal. It’s hard to pay 200.00 bucks for slow service and cold food. Great old building but I will not be back!
Valentine’s Day 2020... their own personal Fyre Festival. It was so awful that we were convinced something terrible and extreme must have happened to throw their whole night off. However, upon reading reviews from NYE and finding several from people with nearly identical experiences as ours, we realized it was not just an off night. Like other diners, our night included a 45 minute wait to be seated (after seeing a couple without a reservation get seated), hour+ delays to get any food and then sub par food from the fixed menu. Multiple times we considered paying for what we had received and leaving but ultimately stayed with hopes it would improve. The manager was very apologetic and actually comped our entire meal in addition to providing a gift card, but seeing so many other reviews like this tells me they need a major overhaul and I don’t think we’ll return! To be fair, our waitress was very nice.
Horrible! Had keep asking for drinks, reminder on salad and then two hours in we still hadn’t gotten main course.
Food was awful.
Food wasn’t great, and it took forever. Over 3 hours and still didn’t get all of our courses. Ticket was incorrect.
Waiter was friendly but still very busy with other tables.
Loved the amazing Valentines Day menu and wine pairing. Delicious and wonderful service!!!!
The Place is great. Very nice old school charm in an awesome venue. The food was way better than I expected. One of the better steaks I've had in Birmingham. My wife and I went for Valentines dinner and the staff was well prepared and outstanding.
Fresh seafood perfectly cooked. Unique flavorful appetizers and great bartending.
Birmingham Estate Sales held our crew appreciate at this lovely affair!!
Amazing vibe and service. Chicken was very dry but drinks were phenomenal.
Overpriced and the food was atrocious. Probably the worst steak I ever had. It was literally burnt.
Good. Missed being outside due to cold.
Had Sunday brunch here to celebrate a birthday. Arrived early but were seated immediately. Despite the fact that it was quite crowded, the place was a *lot* quieter than our last visit for dinner a while back. Addition of some artwork on the walls may have helped buffer sound a bit. Anyhow, I was disappointed to find that the lovely brunch menu I'd previewed online has been replaced with a buffet. The buffet did not have as many interesting choices as the menu; I had so looked forward to the beet carpaccio as well as the macadamia beignets! However, a nice selection of more run-of-the-mill options was served, and it was all quite tasty. A bit pricey at $28, but satisfactory. The drinks were tasty and our server, Ashley, was personable and attentive. On the whole, a good experience. But I do urge the management to bring back the regular brunch menu.
It took awhile for the food to come out but the food was excellent and the service was really nice making it an all around enjoyable time. I would like to thank the restaurant for the complimentary chips and dip as well as the dessert that was given to my date and I to make up for some time spent preparing the food.
There were some issues with our food - had to send back a dinner that came so much later than all the other meals. The bill was not corrected and that had to be readdressed. The wait time for service/food was not optimum.
The rating is low since we did not get our main course before we had to leave for the theater. We ordered about an hour before we had to leave. We did get a salad which was very good but no idea if he rest of the meal would compare. There was a wedding party in the ballroom so my impression is that the kitchen cannot handle events and regular diners at the same time. Our server was great.
I have always been able to count on Roots & Revelry for a reliable and consistent brunch but was disappointed today. Changing to a buffet-style set-up was NOT enjoyable. I was hosting a business brunch and was disappointed with my guests having to make their own Bloody Marys and their own plates of food. It was distracting and took away from the tone of the meal and disrupted the flow of conversation. If I wanted a buffet for brunch I could have gone to a hotel dining room or the club. Please consider going back to actual table service. I won't be back for brunch until you do. Thank you.
Dear Mona, we private messaged you, but, just want to clarify for the public that our Saturday/Sunday Brunch Buffet is absolutely intended to be "full service". Our servers and bartenders are ALWAYS happy to make any of our guests plates or drinks for them according to their preference. Thank you for appreciating our previous brunch menu(s). We would love for you to give our full table service brunch experience another opportunity and please keep us in mind for Dinner or Friday lunch as well!
Something was off in the kitchen, and our server was terrible. We received our salads before our appetizers, and not everyone’s entrees came out at the same time. Needless to say, we won’t be dining at Roots and Revelry again.
Our server was top-knotch and took excellent care of us. The food was beautiful and rich with flavor. Loved the artistic yet elegant ambiance and only wish the weather had been warmer that we could have enjoyed the patio. Very European in decor and design; you may be closely seated to your neighbors, but it is no way an inconvenience. Definitely perfect for a romantic dinner or classy night out with friends, but not for children (at least small ones); very little wiggle room and those with more boisterous personalities would be very well heard and seen.
Wait staff is incredible! We always have a good experience here.
$28 for the buffet is a little overpriced, in my opinion, but it was delicious.
We had a nice evening at this restaurant. The food was amazing and the place was packed. It’s a very small place but seats a good number of people. The service was slow, probably due to the amount of people dining, but we received great service nonetheless. We will be coming back
Loved it and the filet was to die for!!
Visited for brunch and was unaware a buffet was the only option. Gave it a shot but selections were limited and room temperature. Pretty disappointed for $28 per person charge. Would not return.
As usual, the food was delicious and the service was great - our server was fun, informative and attentive. The brunch process, has got to get better to survive - lots of pans empty when we went through the line, empty syrup containers beside pancakes, no bowls for grits or oatmeal, etc. plus, not having brunch entrees other than the buffet is not great. Gave it overall four stars because the taste of everything we ate - except the very bland shrimp and grits - was exceptionally good!
Brunch is buffet!
I rarely actually post written reviews but I felt like this one deserved it. In December, I took my sales team here on a Tuesday night and received horrible service as we were one of two tables in the restaurant at the time. (Spend for that meal was $600). The food was marginal but it was evident they were not managed effectively. This past Friday, I decided to give them another chance as my girlfriend and I were going prior to the Ron White comedy show at the Alabama theater. We had reservations at 6:30 and wanted to make the show at 8 PM. By 7:30 we still had not received our meal. There were more people like us waiting on food and checks so we could make the show. Our server (Mary Jane) was the best part of the evening but she couldn’t make up for the fact they were short staffed. We got our meal at 7:40 and had to eat it in 6-7 minutes so we could hustle to the show. I live downtown and love to frequent local restaurants but I won’t eat here again.
