Roots & Revelry
Roots & Revelry departs from the norm by modernizing fine dining. It’s haute with casual undertones, southern with international influences.
Excellent food overall but I wouldn't order the R and R Fish if it is the Mahi dish - it wasn't so good.
Friendly service and fantastic brunch! The atmosphere makes the dining experience even better. The quality of the food on the brunch menu is exceptional.
We had a fantastic Sunday brunch here. The food is outstanding and its in a 100 year old hotel with lovely architecture. Highly recommended!
Wonderful meal. Enthusiastic, friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful ambiance out on the patio. It was a perfect summer evening.
Really just average for me. They appeared to be mostly attuned to their “regulars”, leaving us newcomers to wait. As for value, when they charge a dollar for two tablespoons of jam to go with a two dollar biscuit, I can’t rate that as a good value.
The Basic cocktail was anything but basic, so good. Had the burger and it was a little underwhelming. The bun was too thick and too sweet and the burger lacked seasoning. Looking forward to going back to try the chicken sandwich. It looked really good.
Great service and fun atmosphere
I truly enjoyed my experience from the personalized service to the fantastic food and beautiful ambiance and decor.
The food was very flavorful, unique and fresh! The atmosphere was perfect for date night.
As usual, food and service were great. It was painfully hot in the dining room which was pretty uncomfortable. Otherwise no complaints!
Went there on Sunday and had breakfast. Food was delicious. Had biscuits and sausage gravy for appetizer , entrees chicken sandwich and R&R breakfast. All Very good. Portion fairly large.
Great food but server was overworked and noise level was almost painful
Loved this place! The service and food were excellent!
We had a great evening at R&R . It was slightly slow. We thought it took longer than it should have. But, the food was fabulous and the service was great. My main complaint was that my dish did not include one of the main ingredients as stated on the menu. I think the dish should be as described.
Mary Jane made it memorable along with great food and cocktails. Pompano and Filipino noodles and Trout all great!
Fabulous dinner! The Restaurant Week menu was definitely worth it. Loved the fried chicken. My dad had the R&R Fish, and said the pompano was superb. Definitely get the fried okra, as well!
Fantastic restaurant. Food was delicious
Service was outstanding
John the bartender is Awesome!
We went to Roots and Revelry for my birthday this past Thursday. I had seen the beautiful pictures and ads for this venue at the Sidewalk Film Festival last year and have wanted to go there ever since. The actual space is not as grand as the pictures made it seem and the acoustics were very bright and loud. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was really good. The appetizer we ordered was baked feta which was more marinara than feta, but the focaccia that came with it was so thin and buttery- divine!! We split a Caesar salad which was good and then I had the fish (which was trout that night. ) The skin was crispy and although I am not much of a skin eater, I ate most of it. The fish itself was perfectly cooked and the Hoppin' John under the fish was flavorful and delicious. My husband had the pork and loved it. We split a bread pudding for dessert and it was just enough for us each to feel satisfied. I had a drink before dinner that I can not remember the name of but I think it had "spritz" in the name- elderflower liquor and lavender with bubbles and fruit juice- again, delicious!! I wish there had been more people there for the excitement and people watching, but wonder if it would have REALLY gotten too loud if it had been more full! Overall, it was a lovely evening and a wonderful meal. Now, if we could just figure out to get my husband to quit looking at his phone!
Great meal and service (Mary Jane was a fantastic server). Highly recommend this restaurant
First of all, let me start by saying the food was amazing! We all loved our entrees and for appetizers we were wowed by the pb&j and the Hummus was unusually good. The place has a cool vibe and although it was loud and somewhat small it had a nice ambiance. The noise level was very high but we did have a large party with a Birthday next to us.
The problem was the service was very poor. The manager was great and checked on us more than once but our server was very odd, was not terribly attentive, did not respond quickly when we asked for things and later tried to bring us 2 cocktails at the end to compensate - we had ordered no alcohol, and although i do drink, I had intentionally not ordered a drink and she offered it to my obviously underage son. The meal took over 1.5 hours to come out. I am not sure that was fully under her control obviously, but she never brought us an update until we were visibly frustrated. The night was redeemed by the quality of the food - it really was excellent. I will go back, but if the wait was that long again without any obvious concern from our server then I would not likely return. Hoping this was an unusual night because despite the very poor response time by the waitress and a ridiculously long wait, the food did not disappoint.
Fantastic service. Unique cocktail and beer options. Incredible food. Fun ambiance.
It was the first visit for my wife and I and we plan to come back very soon!
We were very impressed with our first visit so we wanted to return. Our 2nd visit was good but wasn't quite up to par with the first.
First time here. Service was great. Food was great with a diverse menu. Ambiance was great. Desserts were awesome. Our only issue was we over ordered. The portion sizes of both the appetizers and entrees were larger than expected. The net result was we spent more than we should have on dinner. Next time we’ll share appetizers and maybe even an entree or two.
Fantastic meal from the apps to the Kobe steak. The atmosphere and ambiance were perfect. 5/5, will gladly go back again.
Delicious Food - good service - high energy. We had a lovely dinner!
Spectacular service. The waiter spent 15 minutes going over the ever changing menu with us. Perfect food and exceptional service!
The overall establishment was really nice, but a mix up that drastically delayed our order was not handled in a customer focused manner by our server or the Manager. 4 Tables seated after us all received their meals before us event though we ordered before they were seated. Asked the Server to speak with a Manager and she proceeded to check on other tables before going to get the Manager. Manager spent more time discussing their desire to improve in general instead of addressing our specific issue and providing assurance that he had attempted to confirm what happened and why. We were their for breakfast and the Manager offered a dessert as gesture.
Amazing ambience, delicious food. I sat at the bar. The service was lacking today mainly, because the bartenders were busy. Overall, it was a good experience. I'll be back.
Fantastic atmosphere, food was executed perfectly and very balanced. Wine selection was well thought out, and paired with our meal. One of my best dining experiences in Birmingham. The lamb was expertly prepared and extremely tender, and the PB and J is always a favorite. 10/10 will dine here again.
Amazing ambience, outstanding service, delicious food.
Amazing food and the perfect place to hangout and talk! Incredible wIt staff and love the ambiance!
This is the first time my husband and I have been here. We went for brunch and were pleased with the menu. Our server told us of the specials of the day and several recommendations. Our food was beautifully presented and brought to us in a timely manner. It was absolutely delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We will definitely go back again.
Booked a late reservation and were very well taken care of.
Food was amazing. Service was friendly but on the slow end. Drinks arrived after all courses so it may have been a bar issue. Otherwise would definitely return!
Four of us met at Roots and Revelry for dinner reservations around 730. The PB&J (pork belly, cashew butter, and quince) was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It was phenomenal. The rest of the meal was delicious as well, but the PB&J will be remembered for years. We also had the lumpia as an appetizer, which were crunchy and flavorful. The dipping sauce was quite tasty. Seared duck was tender and flavorful. The steak was lackluster- no real prominent or strong flavors. I thought it was overall bland. The roasted chicken was similar. I didn’t try the fried pork ribs but was told they were phenomenal. We had the “breakfast for dinner” for dessert. It was the perfect balance of sweet with the sweet cream on the side. The bread pudding was a little too firm on top, as if it had been baked too long.
Excellent food but noisy.
I ordered the roasted duck breast which was a little under cooked for my taste. Also- roasted veggies would have complimented the duck better that grits.
The bartender Nick was great and very personable and knew a lot about different whiskeys
