Way overpriced. They think very highly of themselves and unfortunately the food and experience did not deliver.
Staff was friendly and attentive. One of the best meals I have had in years! Highly recommend!!
We started outside but it was cool and about to rain so we went inside. The service was nothing short of excellent. Our server happened to be the host and she was wonderful. She did not rush us and she was running around like crazy. We were on a girls trip from Atlanta and I will dine here again when I am in town.
Great food and perfect environment for a girls’ brunch.
Such good food. Sophie was OUTSTANDING. Great recommendations, friendly service. Perfect date night. Thanks Sophie!!
Nice to return to, but outside parking was leary.
Brunch with a friend who had never eaten there. The food and portion size was perfect. It was very good enjoyable.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Patricia and Sophie were wonderful host and server. The food was fab. We opted for a meal of apps and were not disappointed! Cesar Salad, avocado toast, fried green tomato Caprese salad, Tuna Tartar (FAV!) all was amazing and the service second to none. Highly recommend! Please try the Pink Dewey cocktail, pink grapefruit, Dewars, contra - super before or after dinner cocktail. We’ll be back soon!! 🥰
We cannot wait to see you both again!!!!
This was my first time dining here and Wreed was our waitress. She was great! The food was amazing, we did the brunch menu. The ginger/lemongrass syrup was surprisingly tasty. The only thing I disliked about the brunch menu is that you could not order a waffle a la carte.
This was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I worked in the industry for 12 years. They were understaffed, disorganized, and all around sloppy. They did not greet our table for 40 minutes. I brought a bottle of wine and we had to pry the bartender to get us glasses and a tool to open it. He came to our table and I almost grabbed the bottle from his hands as he was sloshing and over pouring each person. From there we ordered appetizers. We finished the bottle of wine and our appetizers still had not arrived. The staff was obviously flustered and arguments were happening in customer view. Our server was obviously checked out, so at that point we left the restaurant on our own since the vibe was so bad. If your going to charge premium prices (which I do not mind paying) I expect a high level of service to come with it. Needless to say, there are far too many superior restaurants to ever return to Roots unfortunately.
What a mess! We were there early, by 6 pm. Started out easy and quiet outdoors. Very quickly became noisy, crowded and frenetic. Too many people inside, no social distancing, not enough masks. Glad we were outdoors. But far too few waiting tables for the crowd. Long delays from the kitchen. Staff running around. My lamb came out too rare to eat after waiting 20 minutes after the starter for it to arrive. Back to the kitchen and it came back well over done. Badly butchered with globs of fat. I ate very little. The staff was running around madly trying to keep up. Our waiter never returned to our table. I finally flagged down a waitress from another table and asked for our check immediately. The check came and had the dessert we ordered but didn’t receive on it. When called out, the hostess brought us the dessert in a to go bag. We’ll never go back. My partner’s meal was fine, hence the two stars.
We were in town for the weekend and made a reservation for 1:30pm. When we arrived, someone came up and said the restaurant was closed for a private event. I said that we had made reservation and we were on a time constraint. They told us ...”I don’t know what to tell you, we cut reservations off at 12:30pm”. I suggested that they check Open Table and make sure because reservations showed up for the whole day and evening. No response from the person....so just a bad experience from a management perspective.
I am so very sorry. Truly. We had tried several times to cut off the reservations- I am not sure why it was not working. I am certain it was my error w/ the technology. But again, I am sorry we wasted your time. I know I offered champagne for the following day's brunch- but that was not good because you were out of town. When you arrived we had already shut every thing down for the wedding prep in the ballroom next door. If we could have made you anything we would have, but it was all gone-sorry
The reboot of this place has just missed the mark compared to their original staff/menu/kitchen. I don't see it lasting much longer as is, the food was quite gross and the service was TERRIBLE!
Great food and amazing service. Beautiful patio!
The patio is just lovely....
Birmingham restaurant week menu was incredible!!!
Yay!! Glad you enjoyed restaurant week as well!! We were nervous, but so glad we dove in- it make all the difference in the world to us as small business owners!!
What an absolutely amazing experience. The food was spectacular. The service spot on. We had a blast and thank everyone involved. Menu is inventive and delicious.
Thank you so much PJSnick, we are happy you enjoyed your visit and especially the food!!!
The food was wonderful! We’re glad we sat outside - the noise level inside was pretty loud. The tables outside were peaceful and the service was excellent
Thank You So much!! We really appreciate your taking time to write a review. Yes the patio is a different experience for sure!! It's that we have can offer both experiences. The patio is just lovely.
Chaotic, food was undercooked, poorly prepared and restaurant, building and bathrooms completely filthy. We were very disappointed.
Since you know the number of reservations, you should either have enough servers or not take so many reservations. The “hostess” was dressed in shorts 3 sizes too small! I would not have let her stay there like that. We waited at the table an exorbitant amt of time for any drink; no butter was ever offered for biscuits, our 2nd drink order was forgotten. While the food was EXCELLENT, it was cold when it arrived. This has been my favorite brunch site, but overbooking & understaffed & hostess appearance has ruined that opinion. The food is still some of the best in town … when it is served warm.
You are absolutely right-we have taken steps to lessen the amount of reservations. We had been pretty slow leading up to restaurant week, like most restaurants during the pandemic. Then our business exploded with restaurant week and we tried, to ramp up but were finally able to lessen the traffic. We haven't been giving out butter, but I think you are right. People would enjoy the biscuits even more with butter. I apologize that my outfit contributed to a poor experience. My sincere apology.
We’ve never been, first experience for us
Is was nice the servers were really nice knowledgeable and pleasant, we will definitely go back
Thank You very much!!
We visited Roots & Revelry during Birmingham Restaurant Week. Due to Covid we went early (5:30 PM) to avoid a larger crowd. We had Conecuh Dip which was AMAZING and Caesar Salad for an appetizer. We chose the scallops for our entree which was also excellent. Our fare included desert and cocktails. This was our first visit and I was extremely impressed. Our waiter, Phillip, was outstanding and checked on us throughout our dinner. The location is easy to find and parking is directly across the street. Valet is available but due to Covid we chose to park and stroll. All Covid Protocols were followed so don’t let that slow you down. We will be back for other options. Five ⭐️’s
Thank you so much for taking time to write a review. We really appreciate it and agree that Philip is amazing! I appreciate your not wanting to use the valet, your explanation makes complete sense. I had not thought of that. The scallops are wonderful and one of the most popular dishes-I am thrilled you tried them!! Please stop by and let us know when you stop in again!!!
showed up 5 minutes before our reservation was. No one was at the host stand to greet us, so walked over and asked the bartender. The owner ended up walking out and told us that they were out of everything and could not seat us. The restaurant was in no way full.
Additionally, no one reached out to us prior to our reservation time to let us know. They showed no remorse and offered no compensation for the inconvenience. DO NOT recommend.
We arrived on time and were told to wait. After about 15 minutes a server came by with plates of food and said the chef says no more tonight.
So we left.
Bartender nice but out of beers too
I filled in the stars the best I could so I could let you know...didn’t get a chance to try the food though
Stunning restaurant and excellent view! Delicious food! All of it was so good!!!
Sophie was awesome!!
The duck was great and the waitress was very nice as well.
Was much better the previous times that I have been. This was my first time back since Covid. Food quality was off and service was slow.
Great atmosphere dining on the terrace. Our server was great and all her suggestions were delicious. The tuna appetizer was excellent.
It was nice. I love it
Fantastic food! Treating my nieces and nephews to a Back to College dinner and we all had a great time.
Masks and the amount of social distancing have no value there. Great food so I hope it is still around when all is normal.
Fantastic food and wonderful service. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. We ate at appropriately spaced tables outdoors and it was delightful since we were shaded by an umbrella and trees. I highly recommend.
Excellent food. House wines are excellent.
There were four of us dining and we all ordered different dishes so we could share samplings of all. The tender fiilet mignon was excellent, squid linguine with mussels were done perfect, gumbo was as good or better than in New Orleans. We also had the fried okra and the delicious conecuh dip with their homemade chips. We did have to ask for more chips as we love the freshness of these chips. Our entire experience was great.
Thank You so much!! Please let me know when you are in town again we would to offer you a free appetizer
Great food and service!! Will be back!
Service was poor. Got orders wrong and server was not attentive.
Overall, a great experience. It was a little loud inside so we opted to eat on the patio right about sunset, which was very nice. Service was friendly and timely, with the only meaningful drawback being the pace and quality of bar service. Our Conecuh Dip appetizer was great, my wife's scallops were outstanding and my linguine mussels were very good.
Thanks so much for the experience. We'll definitely be back.
Made a reservation. Show up to find the restaurant had already closed for the evening. We had been traveling all day, stopped in Birmingham to meet a friend for dinner, were starving, and by the time we found out they were closed it was too late to find another open restaurant.
Food was great and the mimosas were soo good!
