Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

I was upset I made this reservation over a week in advance for my birthday and they stuck us at a terrible table right next to the kitchen line and didn't seem to pay much attention to us.

We’ve lived in LOHI for 6 years now and have been regulars at root down and Linger for years. We also plan our trips to the airport in such a way that we can eat at root down there. But WOW- what a disappointing experience on wed. Night. You can really tell that the Chef has moved on and management is stretched thin. The menu has become diluted and bland and only carries small remnants of the unique dishes that launched root down. The service was amateur at best, from the bar where we were ignored for 10 minutes to the waitstaff who must have been stretched thin, and didn’t even realize they should be apologizing- or else didn’t care. Drinks and dishes came out at random even when ordered together. We waited and waited- cold the entire time since after 3 requests they could not seem to figure out how to turn up and the heat in the space that must have been close to 64 as I had to wear a coat. I’m not a complainer but I worked in the industry long enough to expect good service and consistent food at this price point. I’m sad to see the way a neighborhood favorite has gone. We ate at root down at the airport the next day and there they at least still make a good burger.

Scallops were great!! Came on Sunday so they had the 3 course dinner for $35. We got beet salad which was very good, tofu was ok and almond ice cream was good just a very small portion. Veggie sliders were ok. Banana cream brûlée was amazing, definitely my favorite part of the meal!

Root Down was excellent in every way! I had the Sunday night special and the salad, entree and dessert were all amazing. The service was great. This is just a down home wonderful place to eat and hang with a friend. I highly recommend it!

Very hipster! Lively and energetic. Food was great tasting and unique and our server was pleasant and very responsive. Makes you feel like you are part of the urban scene!

Our waitress was excellent. Three of the four of us were happy with our meals. It would be nice if the restaurant did even the smallest gesture for a birthday. Our waitress was aware that we were celebrating a birthday but , of course, I assume the lack of recognition for this special event is a management decision, not up to our waitress.

Root Down has hands down been my favorite restaurant in Denver for years and years! However we were deeply disappointed with this Valentine’s Day experience. We thought the pricing for the menu offering was outrageous, the portions were small, and my husband was bummed there wasn’t a “normal” meat on the menu (just cod, lamb, and vegetarian). Many people do not like lamb (or duck in the appetizers) and the lack of choices was frustrating for the price. Usually they offer a pre fixe menu but you still have the option to eat off the regular menu. That was not the case and we felt that what we got was not worth the $85. Our server was great, my drinks were great, however when we checked in for our reservation we weren’t sat for 30 mins. The hostess said “just a couple mins” so we didn’t get a drink or anything. A couple came in after us for the same time reservation and were sat almost immediately. I made my reservation in November, so I’m not sure how they got priority? The meal pace was also slow. We were there for 3 hours and ordered immediately when we sat down since we had 30 mins to read the menu. This was waaaaaay to slow and long for a Wednesday night, even though it was Valentine’s Day.

It was great experience overall. The host made the experience wonderful. We had a few people join the party and increase the total number needed, which of course was higher than the original table reservation. He was kind and helped get us a table very quickly.

Mistakenly showed up on the wrong night for our reservation. Host worked to get us in, called the restaurant we were supposed to be at and got that reservation changed. UNREAL service and then the meal was terrific. The place is not “candlelight intimate dining,” but it has a cozy atmosphere and a great variety of vegan / veggie options. Short cab ride, or long walk, from downtown hotels. Heartily recommend.

One of my Favorite spots! The food is always prepared to order, locally grown items, always something different on the menu. Service is consistently outstanding, with very knowledgeable people, valet parking a plus. Be prepared to spend some time there as having your food prepared to order takes a while, but, it's well worth it.

Excellent food options for vegans and carnivores. Drink service was a tad slow. I have waited tables and key to good service is taking a drink order immediately ad bringing the drink in under 5 minutes..we waited about 10 minutes. Vegan sliders were delicious!

Besides being reprimanded about making our reservation wrong (even though we are out of towners) by the host as we were sat in a half empty restaurant, even though it was for the opening time slot and there being many tables open at that time, the food was delicious.

Our server was not very attentive, though that was fine.

Their coleslaw is NOT, just an FYI its a kale salad with sliced carrots. I wouldn't care but I am allergic to kale, so it was an unexpected unwanted LARGE thing on my chicken and biscuit meal plate. I mean be imaginative and make your version of coleslaw but at least label the menu as such so people can make a choice.

It was a little weird and confusing that we were offered by a different person than our server, a scoop of ice cream that was included with our daughters kids meal, described as chocolate coconut, but it arrived and it was chocolate mint, which I am allergic to...but that doesn't really matter because it was for her, but you would think it would be described better. However, that isn't even the weird part of the ice cream situation, we were then charged $5 for ice-cream on our bill. Trying to waive someone down while they were slammed at that point wasn't worth it, because we were on the way to the airport. Just a weird way to end an otherwise yummy meal.

This was one our best dining experiences at Root Down...and all of the prior experiences were great. Eric, our waiter, was attentive, helpful, and just overall awesome! We had the lamb sliders, the chopped salad, and the parsnip gnocchi with lamb bolognese. OMG! All the flavors were just wonderful.

Our inaugural visit to Root Down was beyond delicious. Cool vibe in the building, staff are friendly, top-notch and knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. Crafted cocktails were well done and the food was delicious and perfectly prepared and presented. Great for sharing and/or enjoying more if you'd like. Nice to have multiple gluten free options.
