About Root Down
Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.
Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We eat at Root Down every time we travel through Denver. The food is phenomenal, and the service is fabulous. In the summer they open the overhead doors, and everyone in the restaurant can enjoy the breezes. Their second location at the Denver airport is also great for getting a real meal while waiting for your plane.
Root Down continues to be one of the best restaurants in town. It is very consistent in all areas. If you have special food requirements they will accommodate you with no problem. I think as the original in the edible beats group they are still the best (but El Five is making a strong showing).
We first had a party of 6 reserved and half of our party couldn't make it. I explained to the host who sat us and he told us we were fine where we were. It took a while for the server to get to us. The server came and she wasn't very knowlegable. When we were ready to order, she asked if we still needed to wait for our party. I told her we were it and from that point forward she seemed angry and curt with us. Clearly the host and the server weren't communicating and it made the rest of our time awkward as she aggressively removed the other place settings from the table. The food portions were pretty small even when we asked if they were sharable. We were still hungry after eating. Even though it took a while for service to come, after we ordered, the food did come pretty quickly which was a plus. Overall it was a lukewarm experience at a restaurant I was excited to try since I loved my experience at Linger.
We just moved here and we are trying new restaurants all the time. I must say I was very disappointed in the food, I am a vegitarian and did not like my meal. The sliders were burnt. The other three people I was with, two meat eaters, did not like their meal either.
Our waitress was very sweet but forgot two of our drinks. We will not be back.
Recommended for foodies. We enjoyed several dishes from the menu with another couple and enjoyed all that we ordered. Our server was helpful in his recommendations and we ended up with just the right amount of food. Ridiculous that a $32 entree for lamb chops included a total of 2.
Fantastic food and service. We arrived very early for our reservation due a prior event ending early for our group of six. They were able to accommodate us in the bar area quickly and we had a great meal/experience. The creative menu made it hard to decide between options; everyone loved it - I'm looking forward to returning soon.
Been to Root Down many times and this most recent experience was the first time we noticed at decline in the quality of food and service. Had the veggie sliders which were great but they came with sweet potato fries which were so over cooked they were unrecognizable and no one said anything about them. Disappointing experience.
I was visiting Denver and found the place while looking for vegetarian friendly places. I was not disappointed! Everything was fantastic: food, service, the vibe. They were super accommodating and our server, Matt, was really helpful, knowledgeable and so genuinely friendly that we felt instantly at home. We loved it so much, we returned the next day for brunch and loved it again. Definitely a great find. Highly recommend for vegetarians as well as meat eater. There is something for everyone on the menu and they can make almost every dish to accommodate dietary restrictions. A+++
Root down was exceptional. Matt W our server was excellent but everone that came to the table went out of their way to give us great descriptions and make sure we would enjoy our choices. They even gave us recommendations for where to head next for an evening out! Cant wait to go back!
I can't say enough good things about this place. Root Down has always been a must every time I'm in Denver. The staff are so friendly every time, the value is great, and the food is amazing. I arrived directly from DIA and they even checked my bags in for me in the back so I could enjoy my meal without dealing with my luggage!
We love Root Down and have gotten great service and excellent food every time - until tonight. First - the food was fantastic. Cannot say enough about the food. Now the downer for the night: service was very slow and inattentive, especially at first. Once we started catching other wait staff to ask for refills on drinks and other needs, perhaps this was communicated by them to our waiter as he did improve at the end. I was really disappointed in that I did leave a note for the management on their comment card since this experience was so non-typical, but I'm sad to say that the cards must be a formality as no one has contacted us.
Bottom line - food has always been great and if you get a good waiter, it will be an excellent dining experience. For us, we left a bit disappointed on this evening.
Awesome food for brunch and bottomless mimosas. The seating situation upset me, though. We were a group of 4 with a reservation made a month in advance. They put us at a tiny table. There were two empty booths nearby. I asked politely to switch. My group tends to order a ton of coffee, cocktails, and extra plates to share, so the table was going to be tight. The hosts wanted to let me switch, but the man in charge wouldn’t allow it, stating that the booths were reserved for parties of 5. Okay, that makes sense. We were stuck with our tiny table. Then a group of four gets seated at one booth. The other booth ends up with two adults, a toddler, and a baby. Lesson learned: reserve a table for 5 and then show up with 4 if you want the booths.
Sustainable, Colorado Grown Food. Gourmet to satisfy foodies. Good for date or date night. Vegetarian options. Great service. Not to noisy. Good non alcoholic drinks with free refills. Meatless options. Great service. Good ambiance. Makes for a wonderful place for friends and family to gather. Love it, my favorite restaurant in Denver for the past 4 years.
Fantastic, inspired and creative menu - everything was amazing! Our favorite was the lamb sliders with sweet potato fries, but the sea scallops were amazing, the beet salad was delicious, and the Columbian Arepas were great as well. Was somewhat crowded and loud, but well worth the noise due to the food and locally-sourced ingredients.
This was a great place to go for brunch. The bottomless mimosas are a good value and everything on the menu sounded delicious. There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t have eaten. The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The waiter said they are blanched first and then pan fried. The service was prompt and friendly. Root Down stays busy so make a reservation ahead of time unless you’re ok with a long wait.
