We started with bottomless Mimosas, served oddly in tumblers. I like my drinks to be cold, which isn't going to happen in a tumbler. The drink had an odd aftertaste, reminding me of motor oil, so I switched from blood orange to straight orange juice. Unfortunately, the problem was the champagne itself. We then had cinnamon rolls, shared by the table, which were excellent. I had Eggs Benedict, which I really didn't like. The egg was so undercooked that I had to scrape it off and push it aside. No one likes raw egg. And I didn't like the flavor of the sauce. I have wanted to go to Root Down for a couple of years -- we live an hour away. I was so disappointed.
The Rockfish Tom Kha was out of this world!
Menu is creative, lots of fresh produce and interesting combinations. We sat in a small room that was very cozy and comfortable. Service was fine, but wine was never refilled, and you don't have to ask us if we have any dietary issues. We will tell you if we do.
Main negative is the small portions and high prices. $22 is a lot for a small portion of risotto with no protein in it. Two very small lamb sliders with a cup of sweet potato fries is $17. They were tasty, but about 3 bites each. We added an order of arepas as we were still hungry. Two of those were $13. I get that organic foods are more expensive, but I think we will seek out a better value on our next date night.
Had 12:30 reservations and took about 15 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. We did not get our food until 40 minutes after we got there. Waiter was not very friendly. Food was good, though.
Amazing!!! And al is a rockstar server! Great food and ambience. Amazing date. Can’t complain.
It was an amazing eating experience. The food was fantastic-vivid flavors, interesting combinations and the best lamb chops I have ever had! Plus being gluten free the menu was limitless and if it wasn’t a gluten free option they were willing to modify it.
The staff was very accommodating. We were seated before a large party arrived. We were asked if we wanted to move since the large party was so close to us. That was a thoughtful gesture. The food had unique flavor combinations I hadn't tried before so it was a fun dining experience.
Atmosphere was energetic and eclectic, food not as fresh and service mediocre; seems to diminish each visit.
The food was good. We were ordering a drink made with vodka but were consistently brought one with gin. At the end we were also overcharged on our bill for the kind of drinks. They corrected the mistake promptly.
Great place for bunch! We stop whenever we are in Denver
Based on reviews and write-ups. We were expecting the food to be a “wow.” It was good, but not enough to want us to come back and try more. Service was attentive and friendly.
We went to Root Down recently. Showed up at 6:00 as per reservation, but, wow..we were not on their list??? They checked, it was booked for the following week...not good!! My Fault totally!! The host was so great he said give me a minute to figure this out....and don't worry, we will have something...and they did!! The host was so great and helped avoid a crazy night. He saved the day. The food and service was fantastic and the atmosphere was wonderful! totally enjoyed our night and really love the host that saved the day---night! Thanks Root Down, you are totally wonderful!!
We were in town for spring break so I thought Friday brunch would be a great way to end the vacation. Root Down was a wonderful spot with a unique menu at fair prices. I think it was well worth the trip.
Had dinner at Root Down for my friend's birthday. She is vegetarian so we appreciated the choices the menu had and their servers will also ask about any allergies or dietary restrictions to accommodate. Their drinks menu is very good and they have several in-house cocktails you shouldn't miss like El Chido, made with mezcal and tequila. Highly recommended
Really fun atmosphere and great food!! Would definitely recommend and am hoping to return back soon.
We had previously gone to Root Down for special occasions, and this evening we were celebrating my wife's birthday. The food and atmosphere was fantastic, but unfortunately we encountered a bit of resistance from our server for a request to share a dinner salad prior to our entrees. We had to go into detail about what we wished to do, and the experience left is with the feeling that our request was unusual and perhaps frowned upon. We got over it quickly and everything else turned out great.
Great food! Very unique flavors and everything was wonderful!
There were relatively few options and the chicken and the beef sliders were over cooked. The sweet potato fries were barely warm. We did not stay for dessert.
I was disappointed!!
We had a special occasion and was treated like royality. The food was excellent but the service was exceptional.
Great birthday for my husband!
Went there during Denver restaurant week. Tried the special menu. It was disappointing. Gnocchi was nothing special and chicken dish was very dry, begging for a sauce. I have been a fan of Root Down over the years, but this visit was a let down.
We went here for Denver Restaurant Week. I am not a big root vegetable person, but I loved everything we ordered (except the beet salad, but I hate beets). The service was great; friendly and prompt. Servings were not large, but we all left satisfied. Highly recommended!
We were there for restaurant week and the menu and food was absolutely wonderful! We had a reservation but didn’t get seated until half an hour later, Which was a little frustrating. But we had good company and great food so overall we enjoyed our experience.
It was 5280 week on a Friday night. We were surprised to even get in last minute but we did. The hostess explained politely upon arrival that we were on time, but the diners before us were lingering, completely understandable. She had us wait at the bar and after one drink we were still standing (in the way, and everyone coming past us with food were not irritated in the slightest - here was nowhere else to go as they were slammed). Another host came up, apologized, and got another round of drinks on the house. We were probably seated 20 minutes after arrival. The rest of the experience was fantastic as well. I actually usually avoid restaurant week, but Root Down went above and beyond. The food was incredible, service outstanding, I can’t wait to go back. Matthew Morris
Went during restaurant week and had an awesome meal. Highly recommend !
Went during restaurant week! The pork tenderloin was fantastic! Enjoyed hearing the history behind the restaurant name. If visiting Denver, put this restaurant on your list.
Root Down never disappoints. My friends and I went there for restaurant week. The restaurant offered a 3 course meal for $35. The beet salad, rockfish, and chocolate bombe were all excellent.
Fantastic, interesting food. Accommodating for dietary restrictions (e.g. GF, dairy free) and excellent service.
Great place I would recommend it anytime. The beet salad was very good so was the pork.
Always exceptional and a favorite of our's for date night. The server Shannon was especially lovely, fun, and attentive. The food is well conceived, flavorful, and always a good value. Enjoy!
Great food and service. One of the best dining experiences we’ve had recently.
My husband and I came for a belated Valentines Day dinner and it happened to Restaurant Week. We ordered off the that menu and the food was nothing short of amazing. The flavors were amazing and complex. Our waitress was also great, fun and informative. We will definitely go back.
Tasty and unique dishes. Catered to my husband’s dietary needs without a blink. Creative decor with stories behind most of it if you ask. Definitely a place to try!
Love the food and that it is local. Can't get by the noise level though. I couldn't hear the people at my table. It's crowded, tables are too close together. I think that has a lot to do with the noise.
I made a birthday reservation for a party of 8 over a month in advance for this restaurant. I called the restaurant the day before and confirmed my reservation, since I had 8 people coming. They confirmed my reservation and then when we arrived the next evening they told me that they could seat us, but we could only stay at our table for an hour and a half, because they had another party of 8 coming. I have never in my life been told by a restaurant that I would need to rush through my birthday dinner, because they had another reservation. Sure enough we had just enough time to inhale our dessert and they told us they needed us to pay and clear the table. I have no idea why this place is so popular with service like this......will never go or recommend this place again!
We love Root Down and are excited for warmer weather soon so we can enjoy the patio next time. The food at Root Down is always exceptional and innovative. They put things together sometimes that you might question but they always work because they know what they are doing. Great dinner; pork tenderloin, beet salad (my all time favorite) and the chocolate bomb were all wonderful. The Chocolate bomb was a pretty chocolate igloo with yummy interior and exterior. It would be interesting to see them made. Our waiter was the perfect combination of efficient, helpful and attentive. She was friendly but just the right amount and not over the top or intrusive. I have recommended Root Down to many of my friends and we also go to the one at the airport. I have been to some of their other restaurants too and always enjoy them.
I was upset I made this reservation over a week in advance for my birthday and they stuck us at a terrible table right next to the kitchen line and didn't seem to pay much attention to us.
We’ve lived in LOHI for 6 years now and have been regulars at root down and Linger for years. We also plan our trips to the airport in such a way that we can eat at root down there. But WOW- what a disappointing experience on wed. Night. You can really tell that the Chef has moved on and management is stretched thin. The menu has become diluted and bland and only carries small remnants of the unique dishes that launched root down. The service was amateur at best, from the bar where we were ignored for 10 minutes to the waitstaff who must have been stretched thin, and didn’t even realize they should be apologizing- or else didn’t care. Drinks and dishes came out at random even when ordered together. We waited and waited- cold the entire time since after 3 requests they could not seem to figure out how to turn up and the heat in the space that must have been close to 64 as I had to wear a coat. I’m not a complainer but I worked in the industry long enough to expect good service and consistent food at this price point. I’m sad to see the way a neighborhood favorite has gone. We ate at root down at the airport the next day and there they at least still make a good burger.
Scallops were great!! Came on Sunday so they had the 3 course dinner for $35. We got beet salad which was very good, tofu was ok and almond ice cream was good just a very small portion. Veggie sliders were ok. Banana cream brûlée was amazing, definitely my favorite part of the meal!
Root Down was excellent in every way! I had the Sunday night special and the salad, entree and dessert were all amazing. The service was great. This is just a down home wonderful place to eat and hang with a friend. I highly recommend it!
