We had dinner last night for my Birthday! It was great! When we got to the restaurant we were greeted with a warm welcome and a Happy Birthday! Then we were promptly seated at our table. Eric was our server and he was amazing! I got a signed card from all the servers from Root Down. I tried the coconut ginger fizz non alcohol due to being pregnant and it was great! My husband had the pepper blossom which he loved. Both of us loved our entree’s he had the rock fish and I had the flat iron steak which both were great! Looking forward to returning again! Thank you!
Great meal.
Erik was amazing!!! Best server ever!
Always excellent service and excellent food
Besides having some the most delicious food in Colorado, the service is outstanding. Our waiter from the last time we visited saw us and took the time to come over and say hello. Root Down is more than food, it’s about the people.
My latest trip to Root Down was, without exception, as excellent as usual. The seasonality to the menu means a chance to try something new with regularity, the vegan/vegetarian options are are plentiful and make for a nice robust menu alongside carnivore-friendly dishes, and the bottomless mimosas did not disappoint.
We have been to Root Down and sister restaurants many, many times. Always favorites for us or when we are meeting friends. It has been awhile since we have been to Root Down and sadly, this time it was disappointing.
In general it used to feel like the food was really allowed to shine in a pure form without a lot of extra sauces or confusing flavors. This time it felt like things were just completely drenched in cheese/sauces and that really takes away from both beauty and taste of dishes. Devils on Horseback drenched in a cheese sauce and nearly unrecognizable - as well as arepas. My husband said those 2 plates looked like they could have been served at Taco Bell - drenched in cheese sauce 😬 Beet salad was lovely as the sweet potato fries are always spot on. But even my old favorite of Thai Curry soup felt too thick and goopy. Everything just felt like a little more detail needs to be paid to each or these dishes in the kitchen to improve the overall dining experience. Service was great though. We will still be back, but probably just for happy hour in the bar. 😌
Server - Cassie - was fantastic
Food was fantastic
Somewhat overpriced for the serving size relative to other top rated restaurants
Always a pleasure dining at Root Down! This time, service was fantastic at working around my wife's dietary restrictions and had plenty of options to satisfy any diet really. The mint chocolate chip ice cream bar was a fantastic way to finish off our dinner of chicken and rockfish Tom Kha soup....both were excellent!
Delightful to taste options on the new Spring menu.
Great service, food, and atmosphere. I took my wife for her birthday. Highly recommend for special occasions.
Root Down is my go to place for a special occasion or when I need a pick me up. The food is always fresh, healthy and, cooked to perfection. The staff is all very knowledgeable regarding the menu items, substitutes, etc... I will be back soon!
Great food, service and atmosphere. Came from Florida to visit Denver and I would recommend this place. Hope to be back sometime soon
Birthday dinner. We had reservations but were seated a bit late. The restaurant was packed so service was slow. Food and drinks were insanely good!
We went for brunch on a Friday at noon. The place was absolutely packed, which is fine, but the sound level was extremely high. I know you can't tell people not to talk and have a good time but maybe there are sound reducing solutions, like fabrics or something. The food was great but I did miss a substitution for the things in a dish that weren't vegan, instead of just omitting. Made the dish a bit dry.
Such a great kids menu! I LOVE that my 6 yr old got veggies, fruit, sweet pot fries and her meal on a fun school tray. Our food tasted amazing too. So unique. We should have stuck to a bunch of small plates vs the lamb entree. It had no meat on it for $40. Server was super nice and atmosphere was super cool.
We take our out-of-town friends here every chance we get. We had a paleo eater, a vegetarian eater, and a kid and all found something they loved. I think this is the perfect restaurant for kids to step out of their comfort zones and for people to see what rich foodie culture Denver is cultivating. Oh, and the view.
Everything was lovely and delicious. Staff were wonderful. My only complaint was that at 5pm more than half the beer menu was unavailable. Fortunately I found something I enjoyed.
The food as always is yummy! One of my favorite Denver spots for brunch! Wait staff is wonderful and friendly. Food is consistently great! Atmosphere is fun!
Again the food was wonderful. All four of us loved what we ordered.
Absolutely no complaints at all on anything. We love the place!
Birthday celebration
One of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Denver. The food and service are impeccable.
Hands down one of the best restaurants in the Highlands, and the menu is to die for. If you're looking for something different in Denver, Root Down is for you - especially if you're trying to enjoy a nice meal with a great environment and locally sourced food. Food is fantastic, and the cocktails are simply delicious. Whether you're looking to celebrate a special occasion or just get drinks with friends, this is a great option.
The food was good, but service and wait could improve. We arrive at 6:25 for a 6:30 reservation and were not seated until nearly 7:00pm. During this time we were not offered water or other options to order a refreshment or snack. Once seated, things progressed nicely and had our food within 45 minutes. I asked for a second beer and it took 20 minutes to arrive. When ordering desert we asked for a couple extra minutes and it took 15 minutes for the waitress to come back. While the waitress comped the late beer, the whole evening could have felt nicer had our initial wait been made more pleasant. A 30 minute wait on a reservation was a bit much for two hungry and thirsty patrons.
I've never had a bad experience here. It was a great place to celebrate a dear friend's belated birthday. Great food, great service, and great attention to our food allergies! Please don't take the arepas off the menu!
Super overpriced, for ridiculously small portions. Heard their food was healthy, but there was more options with bacon than vegetarian.
Root down is my favorite restaurant in Denver! Their food, as well as their service is ALWAYS amazing. We usually come with a group and order almost everything on the menu, we love everything so much we couldn't chose what we loved the most! We eat out frequently in Denver, and with all the new restaurants, Root Down continues to shine :)
We've been to RootDown twice and have loved it. The wine list is decent, not the best. However... the food is phenomenal. Especially the lamb and the roast chicken. We shared the Gnocchi, which was decent. However, I would recommend the lamb and chicken any day. We love the dimly lit ambiance as well.
Sunday dinner for $35- 3 excellent courses- all competently prepared and cool fusion menu
choices. Rockfish Tom Ka, well executed greens salad. My only comment was the white Choc Bombe desert was actually too large for any of us to finish!- No complaints! Great service, great food!
Holy Devils on Horseback yes. Excellent food and service. Everthing was amazing. Eat here.
My wife and I went to Root Down for brunch on her birthday. I had never been before, but on the recommendation of a few friends and outstanding ratings on OpenTable/Yelp I decided to go for it – was an amazing decision.
The food was was creative and beautifully plated, while not being strange or feeling pretentious. On top of that, the food was great. My wife Zucchini Bread French Toast (pictured), I had Shrimp and Grits Benedict, and we split the Vietnamese Almond Pancakes – all three were amazing – but the Shrimp and Grits Benedict was our favorite.
Overall, the vibe of the place was great – trendy casual, probably – with a lot of really unique aspects to the decorations that were really fun. The service was awesome. Our server was attentive, knew the menu well, and was very easy going.
All in all, we will be going again soon. Definitely a place we're excited to introduce people to. Give it a try!
Exceptional quality food.
Food is always top notch and mostly organic. Sustainability is infused in all aspects of the restaurant. Root Down is a very pricey option, over $200 for 2 with wine. But it was a very special occasion. I booked the reservation a month ahead and made a special request, but there was no indication anyone read that or accounted for it. They could not have given us a worse option for my needs. We were seated at a 2-top with our seats on adjacent sides of the table... right next to a pair on opposite sides of a 2-top, so we were basically facing them. I might as well have been seated at their table... erk... I was just staring at these 2 ladies eating, could hear everything they said, and vice versa. The arrangement made me extremely uncomfortable. Very disconcerting and disappointing altogether.
Delicious food and drink options and the decor is awesome!
Still one of the best restaurants in Denver. Diverse menu. Something for every one. Terrific service.
Great brunch spot with a fun atmosphere and an artsy part of town!
We love everything about Root Down! You just can't beat the service and the food !
We started with bottomless Mimosas, served oddly in tumblers. I like my drinks to be cold, which isn't going to happen in a tumbler. The drink had an odd aftertaste, reminding me of motor oil, so I switched from blood orange to straight orange juice. Unfortunately, the problem was the champagne itself. We then had cinnamon rolls, shared by the table, which were excellent. I had Eggs Benedict, which I really didn't like. The egg was so undercooked that I had to scrape it off and push it aside. No one likes raw egg. And I didn't like the flavor of the sauce. I have wanted to go to Root Down for a couple of years -- we live an hour away. I was so disappointed.
The Rockfish Tom Kha was out of this world!
Menu is creative, lots of fresh produce and interesting combinations. We sat in a small room that was very cozy and comfortable. Service was fine, but wine was never refilled, and you don't have to ask us if we have any dietary issues. We will tell you if we do.
Main negative is the small portions and high prices. $22 is a lot for a small portion of risotto with no protein in it. Two very small lamb sliders with a cup of sweet potato fries is $17. They were tasty, but about 3 bites each. We added an order of arepas as we were still hungry. Two of those were $13. I get that organic foods are more expensive, but I think we will seek out a better value on our next date night.
