The food took an incredibly long time. We felt the information we received about some of the dishes we ordered was not accurate.
Visiting from Boston and celebrating a birthday! Food was amazing!
WORST brunch we’ve ever had. Took my husband for Father’s Day. We’d been 3 times prior & loved it. Today, no thanks. Terrible service. And I mean TERRIBLE!!!! Food took 45 min to get to us & both meals were NOT good. Sad. As this was one of our fav brunch spots. Never again.
This was our first time having brunch here and it was excellent. Father's Day is super busy but the kitchen and the staff did a terrific job. My husband had the mushroom omelette and I had a bagel with lox. Both entrees were delicious!
Food was wonderful however we suspect the decaf cappuccinos we ordered with dessert were not decaf as our entire party said they didn’t sleep a wink that night. Ack!
The service and knowledge of the food servers is awesome. Fresh and tasty menus every time we go!
Helpful, patient staff provided a great atmosphere for a first date.
Food is always fresh, creative and delicious. Service is wonderful and attentive.
Celebrating my 67th birthday with my kids. The staff was outstanding, as was the food. We had a great time. Thank you!
Great and creative dining. It’s why we go out— to try something we couldn’t possibly make ourselves
I always have an excellent meal at Root Down and it's extremely friendly for folks with various food allergies/needs. It's my go-to restaurants for celebrations and to take friends and family from out of town.
nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom so good and yummy
Root down has a great ambience which is why I chose it for a friend get-together.
The food was okay. For a restaurant that markets itself as being veggie-forward i was sad to find only limited vegetarian options. The one veggie main offered is country fried tofu. The tofu was under-seasoned and the carrots could have used just a tad more time. We also ordered the veggie sliders which could have been more creative in the base, toppings and plating. Lastly, the sweet potato fries had a lovely curry-lime sauce that was a refreshing pairing!
The cocktails were creative. Would recommend the spicy pear paloma if you don’t mind a bit of a kick. The sweetness and spiciness came together well on the warm night.
It seemed that the wait staff was over-extended, but that wasn’t the staff’s fault and they did the best they could to check in on us. We did have to wait about 15 minutes past our reservation time, but that wasn’t a big deal.
I had never been to Root Down but my wife remembered it being good when it first opened. I will say that it was hands down the most flavorful meal I have had in recent memory. Each bite we'd look at each other in amazement, flavors you'd never expect together were amazing. We ate far too much because we wanted to try multiple things and everything was a hit. Big portions are also a plus.
Very creative fare using well sourced meats. It just felt a little too casual for the price
We made a reservation at Root Down for a meal at 9:30 PM. The check-in was easy breezy & we were seated immediately in front of the cutest collection of telephones, in a booth & a call girl on the side. We've always sat outdoors, but we enjoyed the decor immensely.
I asked for recommendations for menu items that did not have dairy or soy & our server recommended Rockfish Tom Kha and Red Rice Risotto without having to consult anyone else.
It was described that the vegetables are swimming in the soup. Since I miss swimming so much and the rest of the description already made me salivate, it was an easy decision.
My husband ordered the Colorado Lamb Burger & took our server's advice to have it cooked to medium.
The Rockfish arrived gloriously with tiny shredded edible lemongrass adding texture to the already festive dish. The rockfish was flaky and there was a substantial amount of fish and veggies that left me full and happy.
The lamb burger was delectable, I'm sure, as it was already in my husband's belly by the time I turned to take a picture.
This is the best kickoff meal to my birthday week!!
Been here many times. This was the first time since COVID. Everything was outstanding as usual.
Amazing food and staff. Definitely recommend. Fresh ingredients and great cocktails.
Really enjoyed the setting and service. The roasted beet salad was the best item of what we ordered. Lamb burger was pretty good, too, though we expected the lamb to be more flavorful. Fried tofu was a bit disappointing, wish we had ordered one of the other entrees.
We enjoyed our time at Root Down for my birthday celebration. The food was delicious! I highly recommend the beet salad and the scallops.
Not the Root Down of times past! We recently had dinner at this restaurant to mark a special occasion. As always, the food was exceptional -- delicious to taste and to see. Other aspects of the experience were not so much so. I understand that the pandemic has caused severe strain throughout the service industry, with restaurants particularly hard hit. For that reason I don't find fault with abbreviated menus (although in the case of Root Down I hope they are able to expand their offerings soon, especially the selection of creative small plates) and a temporary "Restaurant Recovery" fee.
However, I was very disappointed by the service, and by how that impacted the ambiance of the experience. First, when we made our reservation for two people several days in advance we were asked to select seating preferences -- patio, traditional restaurant, or bar. We chose traditional restaurant. Upon arrival we were seated out on the bar patio. For some occasions this could have been very enjoyable. But for this special evening I'd have preferred a table in the restaurant, as requested, instead of overlooking the alley. Second, Root Down needs to pay more attention to the restroom; it was dirty and it smelled. Last but not least, our waiter's style differed from my expectations and my experiences in most other restaurants -- very little communication, didn't ask if we wanted seconds on our alcoholic drinks, didn't remove empties, etc.
We're inclined to return to Root Down because the food is so good. At least once more. But I hope they return to the quality experience they once provided.

We found this restaurant years ago and loved it because of its use of farm-to-table and creative menu. That is gone.
We had a reservation Sunday at 7:30. Checked in about 7:20 and were told our table was finishing up. As we waited, 2 other 7:30 reservations came in and were seated before us. This was not cool! Not sure why you pre-assign tables. All it does is make the customer angry. We weren't seated until 7:40.
Our waiter was friendly and apologetic for not only the seating issue but the hour it took to get 2 lamb burger orders! The buns were burned as well!
Also, just a few months ago (during covid), you had a decent wine list. Now, just 4 choices for red, 4 for white, and a couple for bubbly. Why?
We were truly disappointed and unless the menu improves, we will not be back.
Please don't use Covid as an excuse. We all need to move on.
The food was excellent, the cocktails are a little pricey at $20 each
It had been a long time since we had dined at Root Down and we were so happy that the quality of food and service was still top-notch. We brought our foodie friends from San Francisco and they said it was the best meal they’ve had in months! Highly recommend!
We went the "tapas" route - their small plates are varied and excellent. Our waiter, Jason, was terrific! Outdoor ambience was perfect for sky watching ;-)
Always enjoyable with good food and even better staff!
It was really good food, although I would’ve liked more gravy on the chicken and biscuits. Also it was a bit hot and no fan or anything
I loved this place!! I have been twice and still the same🥰
The arugula salad that came with the brunch dish was too salty. The mushroom omelette filling was also too salty but the potatoes were just right. Our server was the best, though.
Fantastic! The risotto and the Moroccan chicken were both wonderful.
Always come to this restaurant when I visit Denver to visit my son. One of his roommates is vegan and Root Down has a great meanie for him and the rest of us who are not. Always great food and service.
Our go-to spot for a guaranteed amazing experience every single time. A lot of restaurants are struggling with quality of service right now, which I understand given the Covid hang-over and labor shortages, but I don’t appreciate being repeatedly disappointed at new places. Root Down always delivers remarkable flavors and spot-on service. I also love supporting a restaurant that focuses on preparing and offering food that is consciously produced.
The staff really made this experience remarkable. So kind and thoughtful remembering our last visit and took the time to connect with us.
RootDown is great for my wife as she is GF and DF so finding restaurants with multiple good options can be hard. And I have enjoyed eating here because the food is high quality but lately I feel like the tastes are just ok. The country fried tofu was the exception and just sang with flavor and reminded me of years past. Otherwise, the steak and scallops were just ok. Not bad but not something amazing that I’m ok with paying the higher prices on. Hoping it has been just hard getting restarted to normal operations as things open up and supply chains get going properly again. I’ll be back and see.
Fantastic brunch spot to meet friends for yummy cocktails and food!
Great flavors, great service
One of the most creative and flavorful meals I’ve ever had and I LOVE food!
Wonderful dinner out and a break from Boulder restaurants.
My husband had bistro steak, absolutely delicious and I saw a fiddle head and oh my, deep fried mushrooms, I was enjoying his dinner as well. While sporadically diving into his plate I was enjoying my veggie sliders with delicious sweet potato fries. Our waitress I think her name was Amy
We enjoyed ourselves or did I forget dessert!
Banana cream deliciousness! Yum yum
Wait staff great. Clean and safe. Honored reservation perfectly. Food outstanding.
Root Down was wonderful! Food was amazing! Never disappointed with this place!
