Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!
What Insiders Are Saying
Even with all the new Highlands competition, Root Down is still a Denver staple.
Excellent food and service. The staff are attentive but not intrusive, and they know their stuff about all of the items on the menu. They make excellent substitution suggestions. Definitely worth the price.
Unbeatable. My go-to spot for out-of-town guests who love great healthy food & beverage.
Our waitress was excellent (I am sorry I don’t remember her name). She explained the dishes well and was so attentive!
The food was fantastic as always!
Our first dinner at Root Down was amazing. We shared small plates and an impressive dessert.
Delicious pastry of the day( scones with brown butter miso). Pancakes were DRY and disappointing. Scrambled eggs were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Will definitely go back but no pancakes:)
Incredible food with the best ingredients. Went for brunch and will come back for dinner!
Hands down, one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had. I travel for work and have eaten at several Michelin Star restaurants and this was an exceptional meal and experience in every way. Thank you so much.
Unusual menu, but everything is always delicious. Never had a bad meal there. A true restaurant winner in Denver!!
Excellent as always. Inventive menu, great service, good people-watching.
We were seated in a small room with food can kids decorating the back wall. It was a more intimate setting and very easy to hear everyone talk. The food was incredible. The devil's on horseback are some of the best I've ever had.
Nothing can go wrong with a patio dinner at root down.
Modern, and sensitive to any special dietary needs. Great ambiance, young crowd, fantastic service.
Our evening at Root Down started out very rough, but once we were finally seated, we had a wonderful dinner. We had a 7:00 reservation for regular seating for 5 in the dining room. As I waited to check in with the hostesses at 6:55, I overheard a gentleman checking on his 7:15 reservation. I checked in and was told it would be a couple minutes. More than 10 minutes later, I went back to the hostess stand and noticed that the 7:15 reservation party of 4 was gone. I was told by the same hostess that they were "trying to find a place for us," to which I asked if that was because they seated the 7:15 reservation ahead of us and received a very rude no and dirty face response to from the hostess. I stood up front for another 10 minutes while several employees (the two hostesses and two front of house managers) shuffled around without acknowledging me until I heard a manager asking where the party of 5 was, so I announced myself to her. We walked out front while she now explained that they were trying to find space for us as the only open table was in the bar, and when I asked about the 7:15 reservation, she acknowledged that indeed they had seated a later reservation ahead of us and that was why our dining room table was unavailable. To her credit, when I explained my unpleasant interaction with the hostess, she apologized profusely and said she was working to get a table on the patio ready for us. It was after 7:30 when we were finally seated, but from that point forward, the service was very good and the management went to great lengths to make up for the earlier issues. The food was amazing, from small plates to entrees, and wonderful desserts. We had two vegetarians and three meat eaters in our group and everyone went home happy. The patio provides a wonderful view of Downtown Denver with a cozy atmosphere.
excellent, nice venue, unique menu, chef recommendations for wine spot on
Great first time experience. Both of our dishes and cauliflower appetizer were outstanding. Wine menu was not extensive but the features white Rhône I had was also excellent.
One of the best dining experiences in Denver--Chef is a treasure!
Our waiter was wonderful. The food was outstanding. We loved everything about Root Down!
Rockfish Tom Ca was best fish dish I have had in Denver. Rest of meal was great as well. Inventive and delicious cocktails.
Traveling through. Great Denver experience
The back patio is beautiful! Great cocktails and great small plates.
Everything was wonderful and the staff were super helpful and allergy accommodating
Fresh food, excellent preparation. Staff attentive and helpful. Would definitely return.
Good place indeed. A few veggie options, food was tasty, if not a tad bit expensive, but great service and atmosphere.
Thank you for another amazing experience! The menu is always inventive and executed perfectly!
Great brunch with bottomless mimosas served in a pint glass. Needless to say we had a good time.
Fantastic service and great food. Went for happy hour and appreciated the offerings!
Off the beaten path but worth the walk. Great food
Food and service were fabulous. Un-rushed comfortable atmosphere. Great personalities everywhere.
Root Down is one of our favorite places to eat. We always stop at Root down at DIA when we travel. The Oatmeal is the best ever. The Jicama /seafood tacos are also favorites. Our server was way above average and took care of every detail.
Always great here. Only complaint is drink service was a bit slow. Took a while to get our cocktails and we had to wait while eating our entree to get the wine we ordered.
We love this place. Never disappoints. Thank you!!
Root Down is my favorite restaurant in Denver. It can ba a bit loud, but the service and food are consistently excellent.
Service was terrible. Food was par. No great. Usually it’s better. Portions have gotten smaller.
We love coming to Root Down for brunch, it's our favorite spot in Denver.
We had a great time at Root Down. The food was incredible.
Had a lovely Friday brunch (what a great concept!) at Root Down. Our meals were delicious, and the rose sangria was spectacular.
This was among our most amazing and memorable meals ever. The food was fabulous (Thai soup, cauliflower, veggie sliders, carrot gnocchi) as was the Beet Down cocktail (try it - you will be surprised!). The service was warm, kind, considerate, and helpful - flawless. We loved the neighborhood. We parked nearby but were happy to know about the complimentary valet parking. We were visiting from New England, and would return in a heartbeat and send friends, for sure. Enjoy!
Food was excellent!!!! Service outstanding!!!
Great food, great service. Tables we’re a little close together, but overall a wonderful dining experience.
