Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!
What Insiders Are Saying
Even with all the new Highlands competition, Root Down is still a Denver staple.
The price has gone up. The food doesn't match. There's fewer vegan choice.
Went for our anniversary! Food was wonderful- we shared the beet salad and the arepas. Service was great! The staff are always welcoming & thoughtful. One of our favorite places!
Incredible gluten free food!!
Love this restaurant! Great food, fun decor, lovely service. I wish the menu changed more often because we eat here so often!
Root Down has one of the best brunch menus in Colorado. You will not be disappointed!
We had fantastic service, delicious food, and a romantic table at the bar. It was lovely.
Very loud, service was kind of slow. But, man, the food is GOOD!
Had the crab and avocado tacos. Super fishy - just ick.
The chili chicken was just o.k and dessert (chocolate bomb) wasn’t anything to write home about.
The wait staff had attitudes
Perfect evening for patio dining. Great service. Great food.
Truly outstanding experience. Delicious food accompanied by wonderful service. I’d go again and would happily recommend.
We went for Mother's Day dinner and had an excellent experience. The food was really delicious, and appreciated the attention to small details in every dish. Our server was very kind, friendly, and really made the experience a perfect night out. I'll be back, and would recommend Root Down again.
Always a great experience! Food is always prepared with our allergies taken into consideration!
Our Saturday evening dinner was excellent. We shared the beet salad, which was a pleasing mix of red & yellow beets, arugula, hazelnuts. My daughter order the Colorado lamb sliders - one of our favorites for the savory flavors & sweet potato fries. I had a small plate of avocado & crab tacos which were delicious. My fiance had the pork tenderloin special which he proclaimed delicious! We shared the chocolate bombe for dessert, which was yummy but nothing too special. Service was attentive & prompt - we have eaten here many times & will continue to do so for special occasions!
Usually the food is amazing but it seemed even better this time. I love the carrot gnocchi and the pork tenderloin was great. Please never stop making the arepas.
Awesome small plates, which are actually very generous servings.
We were seated inside but the restaurant had it's garage door to the deck open. The outside temps dropped about 15 degrees and we sat there in 55 to 60 degree chills and Gusty winds. We finally asked someone to close the door and windows and it took the staff a while to make it happen because they had seated a large table partially underneath the door. This ruined what was otherwise a nice meal that we had all been looking forward to.
Good quality, interesting combinations of flavors, friendly staff and considering the great food...the price is reasonable. The noise will vary a good bit depending on when you go, but that is only because the crowd jumps up a bit on the weekends.
We enjoyed our dinner there and would definitely return. The atmosphere was upscale yet relaxed. And quite enough to have a conversation, which I truly appreciate. Our group had a vegan and vegetarian along with meat eaters. There were choices for all of us. Of the small plates, the cauliflower, gnocchi and the risotto where our favorites. But the crab and avocado tacos and roasted beet salad were also really delicious. The mains we ordered were the tofu paneer, three chili chicken, lamb, and flat iron steak. The chicken and lamb were both cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The tofu was interesting but not something I’d order again. The flat iron steak was just ok. When we return we will order double the risotto and gnocchi dishes and have them as mains in place of the tofu. It would be wonderful if they will added a second main option for vegetarians. I truly can’t say enough good things about the risotto especially. The service was fast and our server helpful. Overall, a nice night out.
Amazing flavors! "Small" plates BIG flavor! A must do.
Root Down never disappoints. Cool, funky atmosphere, friendly and efficient service are a bonus on top of super yummy food! Lamb sliders are off the charts! Bottomless mimosas at a weekend brunch never hurts either.
Our server dumped a full glass of mimosa all over our table and appetizer by trying to lift a menu out from under it. The mimosa got all over our shoes and pants as well bc the server decided to use a rag to push the mimosa off the side of the table onto the ground next to us. Sticky mess. Then she took away our butter and jam so our biscuits were now really inedible! Asked them to take off the check cause we took one bite. Took the biscuits away and then ran our cards without an itemized receipt and charged us for the 8$ biscuits! We had to wait an extra 30 min after wanting to leave for her to void and RE run our cards. What a night mare. Oh, and the umbrellas didn’t provide enough shade on the patio so tables were literally getting upset with one another when one had complete shade and we asked to move the umbrella and were told no not really cause of other tables needing shade. My back is completely sunburned from the dress I was wearing, partially on me. But sticky sunburnt mess, paid for biscuits we couldn’t eat, and waited 30 min cause the server didn’t correct her mistake. One of my favorite restaurants but probably won’t be back soon. :(
Great Sunday brunch! Always a fun and unique variety of menu options.
We expected that the food would be creative and tasty and it did not disappoint; but our waiter, Matthew, made the evening very special. He was most knowledgeable about the menu and preparation, and even more importantly, personable, engaging and accommodating to our needs. He made both the meal and the dining experience quite pleasant and certainly memorable. And this does nothing to take away from the rest of the service staff who were very much the same in the performance of their tasks.
All in all...a really fun and filling evening. I'll be back!
I normally go to root down for their happy hour menu and drinks. It is always good value and the food and drinks very good and quick. This time was for dinner, and not even a peak time and the food was slow, one round of drinks took too long, and the food was only okay. My friend and I ordered thr lamb porterhouse. Not worth the 35 price. Id say 27 at best. It was small, and tough, and that being so in part to it being overcooked. It was a typical presentation, with the sides being relatively unoriginal. For your run of the mill dinner meal, then id recommend them. But if you want creative dishes with flair and excellent technique, seek elsewhere.
Best brunch in Denver!
Didn’t have many vegan options even though the menu stated it could be modified. For example burger without bun and salad is basically all.
If you enjoy fresh healthy food, this is the place. I wish the menu had a bit more to choose from. Fun place to go and our waitress was great!
Not the same menu as the airport, which was slightly disappointing. We ordered soup, a salad and the lamb and veggie sliders. Everything was just okay. For the price, we probably won’t be back.
Our whole experience was fantastic! Katie our server was incredible and with the help of the culinary staff she was able make it a special dinner. My girlfriend and I where having dinner with a friend, and we all work in the service industry so appreciate what it takes to go above and beyond.
My girlfriend is on a very strict diet so we chose Root Down knowing the food will be great, but also because the menu is all natural and health conscious. However part of her restrictions is no garlic or onions, which is a huge deal. Katie was awesome, she politely went through her cheat sheet and made suggestions of what she could eat. They eventually created a brand new dish of grilled scallops and greens. When it can out it was perfect!
So a huge first class to Katie and the culinary team that made this happen you are amazing!
We were celebrating birthdays and enjoyed our time so much. We were able to chat so it wasn't too noisy. The food was delicious and unique. They are also extremely allergy cautious and will adapt dishes to meet needs.
Took my mom while she was in town and we couldn’t believe how delicious the beet salad is! They amplified a normal beet salad to another level.
Food is yummy but portions are small and everything is expensive.
Great food, awesome atmosphere and the service was excellent! We really enjoyed ourselves and we will return.
We’ve been here several times for brunch and dinner, I keep trying to like this place, and just can’t seem to get there. In short, there aren’t serious issues, but nothing blows me away. In other words, it’s not worth the money. Sometimes it’s the snooty “you’re welcome” vibe I get from the service staff (not everyone), mostly host staff. Yes, your restaurant is popular, but it’s far from the best or the only game in town. The ambiance is great, modern, busy, but can be too loud at times. The most important part is the food, and it’s simply not great. I’ve never had anything bad, but I’ve also never had something I would come back for...and it’s priced as if it is. I don’t mind paying, for something that’s worth it. Example: pastry of the day is $8. Even the swankiest pastry place is half that. After too many not memorable experiences I won’t be coming back to Root Down anytime soon. Don’t buy the hype, decide for yourself without prejudice.
Root down was amazing! I’m vegan but my boyfriend is not so there were plenty of options for both of us. One of my new fave spots for sure!
Birthday lunch for my son! Everything great but sloooooow. It was a 50- minute wait for dood once we ordered. I didn’t mind waiting since we were talking and enjoying company but ... Waitress said they were short staffed that day.
I have been to Root Down, but never for brunch. There are so many brunch places to choice from, but Root Down should be in your top five. The drinks were phenomenal, and I personally have the breakfast burrito, which is one the best I've ever had. I will definitely be back!
Slow service from kitchen
Amazing brunch! I loved everything but not the best if you’re bringing kids :)
