Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!
What Insiders Are Saying
Even with all the new Highlands competition, Root Down is still a Denver staple.
Amazing food that’s carefully and mindfully crafted! Coming here was a wonderful experience overall.
It was exactly what you’d expect in the highlands with a beautiful view and a fun atmosphere, however the host was not friendly and our service was very slow. We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the slow service didn’t make this event feel special... took too long just for one drink. We left kind of bummed and probably won’t be back unfortunately. This place would be perfect for grabbing a quick cocktail on the patio but not for a nice dinner for an event.
Amazing flavors! A true foodies heaven.
almond pancakes were ridiculously good!
The roasted baby beet salad is amazing! Add chicken to this dish - all the meat at Root Down is cooked to perfection and the sunflower beet pesto is ridiculous...I asked to take some to go!
It was sublime.
TripAdvisor had you as #1 for lunch in Denver.... We first were seated near cooking area and two things immediately caused us to want to move: smoke from stoves there, and nasty (painful to me) bass beat of music. How about something less hip and more innocuous musically? All your staff may be 20-somethings but not the patrons. After all, food should be #1 emphasis. We got moved and were treated very nicely. I think because we were doing a brunch, the array of interesting offerings may have been limited. (Some day French fries, whether sweet potato or not, ought to be offered without grease and salt, but maybe I'm conflating another meal elsewhere in this particular remark.) Portions were slightly small. I would go to several other eateries not visited yet before returning to Root Down. Stella's in Highland is better. Hope this is constructively helpful, no doubt you have some yummy dishes. My overall rating is 3+/4- out of 5.
Such a lovely meal. My omelette with mushroom and herbs was delicious, loved the fresh arugula on the side and I had the most amazing cappucino of my life with mixed almond and coconut milk. The wait staff was so pleasant and helpful. Honestly considered coming back for dinner! Will return to try cocktails. Thank you for having so many gluten and dairy free options.
Wonderful spot in Denver. There’s a reason it’s been around for a minute! Jason was a personable but professional server who helped make it a great evening. Highly recommend you sit outside as the inside is a little dark (and that’s coming from 23 year olds!). Love the concept and the space.
We try to come here whenever we are in town. The menu has an outstanding variety of choices. The food is always great and the restaurant has a good vibe
Overall a great place
Root down usually has good food, but it it seems their menu is getting a little stale. It had many months since we were last there, and were disappointed in the lack of new dishes.
Excellent food, expensive but worth it. A bit loud. Drinks generally leave something to be desired. Service is more European style, relaxed and not in a hurry. Great spot to enjoy some excellent food and enjoy the evening.
Delicious sweet potato fries. Awesome commitment to helping reduce our carbon footprint.
Still my favorite restaurant. Still crazy about the Pepper Blossom (SO YUM). Love everything I've ever ordered. Love that they always ask about dietary restrictions. Love that Tiffany (sp?) remembers us whenever we're seated in her section.
Great as always. Excellent food, drinks and service.
Absolutely Fabulous!! We had vegetarian small plates and every single plate was an amazing experience of freshness, flavor, and fabulousness. I bring my team from other countries here every time they visit because the food and service is always excellent. Thank you!
Our server Al was incredibly helpful with foods/ingredients I was trying to avoid and even went so far to get the allergen ingredient print out for everything on their menu. Worked closely with me to make the perfect dish, which was delicious. Very helpful with wine selections. Accommodating for kids, activity for them and brought out their food as soon as it was ready. We go here for their allergen help and well sourced/high quality/organic ingredients.
This was our second visit to root down and introduced our daughter and husband to it. It was a wonderful experience from friendly and attentive staff, to excellent creative organic, local fare, to an interesting repurposed decor, it was terrific.
We normally go to Root Down at the airport but wanted to go to the original for our Anniversary. We were not disappointed. Coming in the hostess saw the note it was for our Anniversary and congratulated us which was sweet. We got a card from the whole staff that was signed also welcoming us and congratulating us. It made our night feel special and personal which was a great touch. Our meal was incredible and again awesome service!
Every time I come to Denver I try to eat at Root Down. This time we all enjoyed brunch.
As always this place was great. The food is always delicious but the service is what really keeps me coming back. Everyone is so nice and welcoming.
Excellent service and seating outside was great. The food is very tasty but a bit overpriced for small plates. Other than that, if you don’t mind the price, I recommend!
The food and service as always was great. We can't eat eggs, wheat and soy and it's one of the few places we can eat where the food is great and don't feel sick afterwards. Highly recommend this place and their other related restaurants
We came to celebrate my Cousin’s birthday/family visit. Overall I really liked this place. We had reservations at 8pm and unfortunately we were not sat until about 8:37, but the manager made it up by bringing some complimentary appetizers and the staff was super friendly. Food was delicious and I love the plating presentation. The ambiance was hip and trendy. I would definitely dine here again when I visit Colorado next time!
soup was cold...food was not quite up to usual standards for Root Down...
Great place. Food was awesome. The crab and avacado tacos are really good. Wait staff was very attentive and very friendly. Definitely going to be back.
My only issue is that I got double charged and I’m still waiting for a manager to call me back to resolve the issue. The food is outstanding & service was great!
Always great food and attentive waitstaff. This is a regular neighborhood spot for us!
Great option for people that have a mix of dietary restrictions. Whether you're vegan, gluten free, a carnivore or noncommittal, you'll find a dish to like.
Wonderful brunch menu Very friendly service and lots of fun!
Best meal ive had in a very long time! Cant wait to go back. Wish i could order everything on the menu to sample.
Ambiance is super cute but was really dark in there. The cauliflower ceviche was fantastic. Service was great except I think they forgot my food and all food in general took a very long time to come out except the ceviche. Overall a cool place. I would go back.
Lots of good vegetarian options!
We literally had one of our best meals ever. Their menu is so vast we tried several different small plates to share. Our waiter Grant was excellent and extremely patient as I was having a non decisive day! Would definitely recommend and the cool restored “garage” setting was top notch!
This place was delicious. Great vibe. Great server. Delicious food. Loved it.
Always excellent food & drinks!!!!!
Lighting was very dim and not the best. It made both me and my husband feel tired.
Great food and great service every time!!!
This is a great restaurant food and atmosphere-wise. Situated in a former car shop, they've made that a visual theme with some original fixtures from the shop and staff uniforms based on old gas station attendant outfits. The food is excellent with many vegetable-based options. There's a variety of seating options -- tables, booths and bar seating -- and the restaurant is divided into two halves, both of which are attractive and well designed.
