Root & Bone

My husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Root and Bone this evening. The meal was absolutely wonderful. In fact, it may even be one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We started with the sourdough service, beef tartare and crab cakes. All were excellent but the tartare and bread were stand outs. The tartare was some of the best we have ever had. On the recommendation of all 3 servers we had the gnocchi and lamb for our entrees. Both were absolutely delicious. The lamb was hands down one of the best lamb dishes we have ever had. The gnocchi was spectacular as well.

We truly cannot say enough about this restaurant. The servers were all fantastic and it was great to chat with the chef. He was overly humble regarding his food and you can tell, thanks to the open kitchen, that’s he’s created a positive and fun environment for his staff. We’ve eaten at many restaurants with an open kitchen and this experience was special. You can tell that the servers respect the chef, the restaurant and the food and in return the chef respects them. It was so wonderful to see. We can’t wait to return. Take our advice, run, don’t walk, to Root & Bone. You’re going to love it!

Another fabulous all round dining experience at Root and Bone! Friends from out of town and I dined on a busy Saturday evening. They loved the overall energy of the restaurant. Every dish was excellent however we especially enjoyed the octopus and the foie gras which were both a daily special. Our dinner selections were delicious and beautifully presented and very generous portions. The staff as usual were very attentive and made us feel like rock stars! I look forward to my next visit!

Excellent service. Great corn bread amuse-bouche, in lieu of bread. The most expensive two scallops (per gram) that I have ever purchased. Tasty but tiny. Bison more medium than medium-rare, and the accompanying potato “square” a little pointless and lacking in flavour. Excellent coffee/capp. Creme brûlée dessert price in line with expectations and tasty, with excellent fruit selection accompaniment. Parking in rear, with incredibly narrow walkway to front entrance, ... just walk around the block.

The quality of the food is amazing. Chef Ray is fantastic. Ambience of restaurant is wonderful. They have paid attention to every detail in the restaurant from the washrooms with chalkboard wall to write on to the copper cutlery from Germany. Well worth a visit.

We were warmly welcomed to the restaurant - empty when we arrived - it soon filled up and even full, noise level was moderate - great open kitchen view and the food was FABULOUS - try the tuna strips - to die for
Don't usually have dessert but we decided to spurge and glad we did - peach cobbler was dreamy@

As usual, Root and Bone was a fantastic experience. The food was perfect, the service was excellent and the ambience is always fantastic. We were served by both Jayden (our favourite) and chef, who is so pleasant and personable. It is definitely a treat for us to go to Root and Bone, and we are always so glad that is the restaurant we choose for our special date nights. We can’t wait to go back again.

Food and service was as usual exemplary. The seasonal adjustments and specials continue to allow the offerings to evolve and provide new experiences. 4th visit and have been consistently happy each time, either by ourselves or with others. Would urge any and all to give them a try.

Lucky to have such a fabulous restaurant in Fonthill. Its a first class venue where everything works. Worth the drive to Niagara.

Birthday dinner on a Tuesday night. Appetizers were very good, tuna ribbons was outstanding. Had specials of evening... shrimp, scallops pasta and strip steak... both delicious , wonderful flavor in sauces..a bit pricey but worth it ... will be back

Incredible food, incredible service. Was a quiet night and I prefer a louder restaurant in general but absolutely loved it and would go back again. The chef should be congratulated.

Amazing restaurant!! The best meal we had in ages!! The restaurant is fun, chic and everyone has an attention to detail ! Our son has allergies to dairy and they could accommodate every meal to ensure he had options! Great experience!!

Very interesting menu with unique flavour profiles. Watermelon salad was excellent as was the chicken and the duck. Service was professional and friendly. Having been in the restaurant business, I know what food cost, and I never begrudge a restauranteur getting the most that the market will bear, but the prices here are even higher than comparable fine dining restaurants in the area, so be prepared.

Excellent menu choices, service is attentive without being overbearing. Food is very well prepared, presented and complimentary.

So delicious! The service was great and the food fantastic. Would definitely recommend. 1 appetizer, 1/2 dozen oysters, sourdough bread (must order!), 2 entrees and 4 drinks for under $200. Will be back!

Root and Bone was a wonderful, up-scale experience right in our own hometown. The service was excellent, the open kitchen was very cool, and the food was not only beautiful and precise- but delicious! Really loved that they had thoughtful vegetarian options. Great work Root and Bone!

Chef Ray is incredibly creative and holds true to his values of fresh, local farm-to-table cuisine. Every bite is delicious and memorable. The staff are genuinely friendly and accommodating and appear to enjoy working with Chef Ray. His enthusiasm is contagious! Root and Bone is a gem in the Niagara Region.

Being from Atlanta GA I am spoiled with the availability of great restaurants. I travel to Canada about once a month and if i don't make it to Root and Bone I am heartbroken. This is hands down my favorite restaurant and meal that I have ever had! It is truly a joy to sit next to the kitchen and watch Chef and is team cook and plate their works of art! The menu is always exciting and full of wonderful choices. I never leave a bite behind when dinning no matter how much we order! If you are thinking of going here GO NOW!!!! I would pay double what they charge on the menu with a smile on my face!!!
