We had a very good meal with great service. Hubby ordered the Chefs Choice Burger. Online it says it's $15, but when we got there it was actually $23. I had the Salmon, which was excellent. Very nice wine, cocktail and local beer selection. Atmosphere is nice also. Our waitress was also wonderful.
We were staying up by GSM National Park, and found Root & Barrel Kitchen on Open Table. It was definitely worth the 30 minute drive. The food was outstanding, and the service excellent. We’ll visit again.
Had a great time at R&B! Food was great and service was as well. We went earlier in the week and will be back!
Dinner was very good. Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly.
Excellent service, great wine list, awesome food. Micheal the server we love. Maria the hostess is adorable. Fantastic experience for weekend getaway from Florida.
On our first visit, "I'm sorry" seemed to be the order of the day.
Inside tables too noisy to hear yourself think? "I'm sorry." (We ate outside.)
Menu ridiculously limited? "I'm sorry." (COVID-19, the current scapegoat for restauranteurs.)
Out of filet at 7:30 on a Friday night? "I'm sorry." (We were told they started the night with only 6. We also heard them say to someone else they were out of trout.)
Entrée shoved down your throat simultaneously with salads? "I'm sorry." (Although well-intentioned, the server didn't appear to know they should be served as separate courses.)
Throw in that in lieu of prices for steaks, the menu said "Market price." If the menus were expensively printed, that might be understandable. But for cheap photo-copied menus in plastic sleeves, it suggests they don't want to advertise that their steaks go for $42 and up for something you can get elsewhere for $35 or less. Michelin starred restaurants might get away with that, but this isn't a Michelin starred restaurant.
Overall, well-intentioned but under-trained servers featuring adequate but over-priced food in a pretentious environment. I might give them a second chance at some point, but so far I'm, not impressed.
10th anniversary dinner
We were just there last month and had the Best Tuscan wine from the only Vineyard in the whole area with our fantastic Steak and Burger. So last night we had the Slanted Window Rose' with our Fish and Pork and it too was over the top delicious. The owners came by our table which is not only a nice touch but shows the level of commitment of caring for their guest and staff! The staff is young and full of energy...GREAT NIGHT all the way around.
Excellent food and service!!
Great place in Franklin. Highly recommend it. Awesome food and the staff is very friendly.
Always my favorite place to eat in Franklin! The food is spectacular, the ambiance is perfect & the staff is very attentive & friendly!
Shout out toChef Trish, Sienna, Richard, Maria, Kaden & Michael! You all are awesome!!!
Great service , ambience and food was excellent!!!
Dined again with Root + Barrel and it did not disappoint!!! I had the Curry Carrot-Coconut Soup and it was amazing!!! The flavor combo was incredible!! I also had the Prime Rib with a Side Salad served with Fingerling Potatoes and Grilled Mixed Veggies that was on specialties the night. It was absolutely amazing and so flavorful!! Root + Barrel has become an amazing restaurant for Franklin, NC!!! Dine with them you will not be disappointed!! Compliments to the chefs!!!!
We had some of the best wine ever that comes from the only local Vineyard and Winery in Macon County. The food is always consistently good and the owners were there and made sure we were enjoying our visit! We eat here whenever we can when in Franklin.
I really enjoyed my evening here. The food was delicious and drinks were on point! Sierra was our bartender and she made us feel really welcomed. We decided to stay at the bar to enjoy our meal instead of getting a table. I would and will definitely come here again!
I am definitely a person who likes food and a person who loves good food. So listen up. Tonight I had the pimento cheese balls appetizer, the wedge salad and the grilled pork chop that was on the menu. The pimento cheese balls was absolutely out of this world delicious and the sauce you dip them in was absolutely divine. The salad again was absolutely fresh and delicious. But the best thing about the entire evening was the pork chop. This pork chop was grilled to perfection, absolutely delicious juicy amazing flavor and the brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes complemented the pork chop amazingly. There was a apple and berry sauce striped across the bottom of the pork chop which was absolutely out of this world delicious. This is an absolute must have and you should try this when you gonna come to this restaurant!
This was my first time eating at Root + Barrell. I had the Spinach Artichoke Dip with the Pita Chips, the Wedge Salad and the Tuscan Chicken Pasta dish. I can say the food was amazingly delicious and I was blown away by the flavors. I’m going to try the Pork Chop on my next visit. This restaurant may become my new favorite!! I’ve heard the Pimento Cheese Balls are quite delicious!!
"Hands Down" this is Franklin's Best restaurant. We eat here almost exclusively when dinning out as they never disappoint us. The owners and staff are fantastic and visit tables to check on you. Besides their great menu they have the very Best Wine List in all of Franklin too!
The food and the service were both top notch.
My wife and I went for a delayed Valentines dinner. It was our first visit.
We were served by Sienna who was exceptional. The service was the fastest we have had anywhere (it was at 5pm though). My wife ordered the ribeye and I the lamb chops. There wasn't a choice for the sides but what we were served was absolutely the BEST. For dessert they offered a white chocolate raspberry Creme Brule which we were excited to try. Wow!
The food was so good. Yes the choices are very limited and could be because of the time of year but we definitely will be back for the next special occasion!
Root + Barrel exceeded our expectations! Food was delicious.
Food was great. Service perfect and nice atmosphere. Will be back.
Incredible dinner and atmosphere. So happy we stumbled upon Root &Barrel for a wonderful Valentine’s Dinner!
I didn't expect much until we arrived and I was amazed how clean and welcoming the servers were. The front desk lady was a smidge rude when arriving but we didn't let it ruin our night. The ambiance was delightful and loved how they had heaters outside. I definitely recommend Root and Barrel - the food portions were massive and delicious!
Super cute place, Staff was very nice. However we got there 6:30 and they were already out of many things. Our waiter was very nice but he was having to do the whole dinning room.
Out of everything we ordered and didn’t tell us until we ordered, seems to be run by disorganized teeny boppers, hair in food, food cold and mushy.
My salmon was good, but my wife’s fiesta bowl was not.
Normally would be giving five stars here as I love the Prime Rib served on Friday and Saturday. But this Friday was just one of those nights were it all went wrong. Waited for our drinks to come. Finally took our order and after 20 minutes wait says. I went to check on your food and they don't have your order so retakes. Much later when food comes Our Prime Ribs are completely dry no Au Jus and I had asked for extra. Come to find out they had run out of juice. For me and most this is a major part of Prime Rib. And at $32 I don't mind paying for a good dinner. But tonight was just a disaster from start to finish. I've had excellent there in the past so will give it another shot.
Best Salmon dinner I've ever had! Food and service is always great! We appreciate they take the pandemic and the health of their staff and patrons seriously and follow all recommended precautions!
My family recently moved to Franklin and we weren't sure where we could find a good restaurant that serves steak. Fortunately for us, we stumbled upon Root and Barrel! We have eaten there twice in the past few months and both times were a wonderful experience. The first time we opened with the midnight mushies and the root wedge...sooo good on both accounts. The ribeye and (featured) prime rib meals were amazing, and the veggies were seasoned perfectly and not overcooked. We left pleasantly surprised at the food, service and ambiance. The second time we came was during the last night of "Winter Wonderland". This was a very special dinner for us for many reasons. A good friend of ours joined us. She has Parkinson Disease and has not been out to eat for at least three years due to self-consciousness. I was able , albeit reluctantly, to talk her into eating out due to a special request for secluded seating. The environment seemed like a sort of metaphor--with elements of nature and industrial brought together harmoniously and enhanced by the decorations. Although the staff (I predict) wasn't expecting such a large crowd, our waiter and host were more than accommodating and very pleasant. We had the mushies and wedge again and added the southern fried pimento cheese balls to our appetizer selection (the red pepper jelly sauce was awesome)! We all shared steak and crabcakes and had to finish off with cheese cake for dessert. It was an memorable meal, but, most importantly, our friend with PD had an extrodenary evening and enjoyed everything about it. As you can tell by my very wordy review, I just can't say enough positive words---keep up the excellent service and thank you--We will be back!
The food was great!
Enjoyed our dinner. The waitress was nice......
Overall food and drinks were good. Wine very reasonable as well.
We loved our meal. I have special dietary restrictions and the staff was very knowledgeable; gave great recommendations and made sure my meal was perfect. I had the filet (minus the sauce) with asparagus, both were cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. My husband had the prime rib, asparagus and a baked potato; he also was very pleased. We will definitely be back to Franklin, NC and to Root and Barrel!
Good food, great service! Our server Daniel was outstanding. He was attentive, friendly and efficient.
It was perfect thank you
Great, fresh food!
Menu and Specials change regularly. Salmon is excellent as was the pork chop. Save room for the Buttermilk Pie!!
Fabulous dinner!! Love the ambiance, great local beer selection and overall experience. I had the salmon and my husband had the shrimp & grits. Best salmon dish I’ve ever had!! We would return in a heartbeat!
Food was a bit pricey. Service wasn’t great. Out of a lot of things. Not bad. Just kind of meh.
