Great food as usual. It is one of the best places to try North indian food in a completely unique way presented by the chef. I enjoyed the food thoroughly.
Want to try some new and different Indian food? Rooh is the place. Everything we tasted was beautifully prepared, unusual, visually interesting. The staff was competent and friendly. Each person we encountered guided us through the menu, explained preparation, and were quick to see if we were enjoying what we ordered.
This is a restaurant to keep returning to and try everything on the menu.
It is unlike any other Indian restaurant I have been to in San Francisco
We were seated promptly and courteously at the time of our reservation. The taste palette themed cocktail menu was fun and inviting, and the cocktails were delicious. (I tasted 3)
The ambience is warm, inviting and SF SOMA hip... great for meeting after work, a date night, or for nice birthday celebration.
This is definitely Indian/south Asian fusion, and this worked nicely for us for many of the small plates.
The traditional butter chicken which we figured was a standard fare for our main dish, left us disappointed.
This is where we would have preferred a traditional blend of spices I suppose.
Overall, this was a spendy evening, that was full of some nice surprises for our taste buds. This is more about experience and ambience than about excellent Indian cuisine.
The waiter we had was superb and full of character.
The food was outstanding and so was the vegan dessert!
We arrived 45 minutes early from a prior engagement, apologized for doing so and simply checked in with the host to see if there would be a table available earlier than our reservation time. We were told that a lovely round table by the window would be available in 15 to 20 minutes. So we waited. And waited. And were eventually seated at a very cramped table across from the other table, 15 minutes AFTER our reservation time, 1 hour after our arrival. Our server was less than hospitable to us, especially our vegan friends (who she basically shamed for being vegan) but the wine director was terrific! He helped with both wine bottle suggestions for the table to share as well as food suggestions for the vegans. The food was great, the ambiance was cool and the drinks and wine were lovely. BTW it was my birthday and a free dessert was supplied. It was a B experience. Five of us drank and ate for $300, which would have normally been perfectly reasonable, but the table and the server kind of spoiled things a little. P.S. Our reservation was made days in advance.
The food and ambiance were really comparable to any good SF restaurant. The service was also pretty good even though the restaurant was pretty much packed. The only thing that I really would knock on are the drinks which were inconsistent. I would love to go back!!
Thank you for the amazing food and incredible service. See you soon.
The food was excellent and creative! The service was subpar and they seemed largely disorganized/understaffed. Would still recommend on the quality of food alone, but hopefully the service improves.
Appalling service—we felt completely ignored. Food didn’t come for 45’. They forgot items and then charged for them. Tasty food but overpriced. Would not return.
Fantastic service and the food was better than expected and we had high expectations! Cocktails were wonderful too
Loved the creative touch to my favorite Indian delicacies!
Brilliantly imaginative food.
Rooh is our favorite date spot! Dishes have amazing flavor and the ambiance is fun but doesn’t feel crowded or too noisy.
Delicious. Fresh and new food of outstanding flavor. Really well balanced flavors that change as you eat each bite. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant.
I had to arrange a business meal for 22 people so went for one of the prix fixe menus which offered lots of options for everyone. We had a few special dietary requirements (dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan(me)) and they were super helpful accommodating our needs prior to the event. They were very clear which dishes were suitable for everyone and which weren't as they brought them to the table which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. The vegan options were super tasty and looked great, at no point did I feel short-changed as sometimes is the case. I also got my own bespoke dessert to finish off the positive experience. All the guests were also suitably impressed with both the food and service, not just me. Definitely worth another visit next time I'm in town and worth checking out if you're after some quality vegan Indian food.
Met up with a friend for light snacks and tea. You have to try the shareable platters with sauces, it’s absolutely amazing. Not drinking? No worries- they got lots of different tea options as well. Overall good experience, I’d definitely try it again.
Food was delicious. Every dish is as a table wide winner. I want to eat there again and again.
Chef is trying to be too fancy with the food with rich sauses, etc. They need more basic Indian dishes with traditional curries. Also, no Indian beers were available. Indian food goes best with lighter Indian lager beers. The craft beers are too heavy for the spicy Indian food.
Fantastic food and creative! Service was spot-on. Lovely cocktail and wine lists. Can't wait to return and have time for dessert and tea!
The service was above and beyond what would be expected........We had to re-schedule our reservation and this was no problem even though they were very busy....Food very good with a good variety of degrees of spicy, but always with that special Indian taste.........We will definitely be going back and recommending to our friends
We were so excited to see this great new spot pop up in our neighborhood---growing VERY weary of all the pub food in this area by the ballpark.
Excellent experience all around! Great and innovative flavors; interesting spices; attentive service. And the chef even came out and spent a few minutes with us asking us about our meal and experience.
We will be regulars here for sure!
I've eaten there three times now and it's fabulous every time. Every plate is perfectly prepared and is excellent. None are even mediocre. The service is, efficient, genuinely heartfelt and kind, intent on making sure one has a great experience. Wonderful ambience and modern, tasteful decor. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Rooh is amazing... I am not a big fan of Indian food but I love this place. I always try to come with a group of people and order tapas style... that way I get to eat many dishes. Absolutely yummy! They also have a good selection of cocktails.
I thought Rooh was fantastic. Every dish was delicious, interesting and beautifully presented. The service was excellent and friendly. There are some familiar dishes but quite a few unfamiliar and imaginative offerings. The cocktails were also wonderful and served in beautiful glassware.
Nice ambience, very good service and food.
Food felt pricy but definitely innovative
Sublime Food. Just tremendous!
Most of the dishes looked a lot better than they tasted. The fish and prawn combo looked very colorful and spicy but had no flavor, same with lamb keema, kulchas were ok but the worst items were the masala tea and the service. We mentioned about the tea and the waitress told us that others like it and shrugged her shoulder. Wow, when you pay double/triple for same item, you expect a better response than that. The service was overall slow and very shoddy with no feedback when asked about the items.
Tasting menu portions were not a good value compared to ordering a la carte. Didn’t expect the main entree to be so small- two bites of chicken.
The biggest reason why we would not come back is because I left a note in my open table reservation to have no salt on my wife’s tasting menu because she has a health condition that limits her sodium Intake. Most of her dishes were salty, especially the butter chicken main entree. Unfortunately she couldn’t eat most of her meal so we had to grab more food for her elsewhere even after spending $90 on her meal.
To make matter worse, our doggy bag food was lost at the front desk.
This place has the potential to be a "go-to" in SoMa for lunch but the service is always so SLOW! They need to get it together. The last few times I've been the service moves at a glacial pace, and simple things are annoying like I had to ask THREE times for a lemon slice for my water. You cannot get out of there in a hour for lunch due to the slow/poor service so they are going to lose business as a result. Too bad because the food and ambiance is good.
I just went for lunch and it was incredible. This place has unbelievable service and food for extremely reasonable prices. All the details have been paid attention to - the decor is on fleek and even the silverware is nice. I had the Mistletoe Kisses tea and a vegetarian platter. The last time I went here for brunch I had the duck egg on brioche. It was easily as nice as Dottie's, Brenda's, Mensho, or any of the other awesome places in the city.
We had the tasting menu, and were extremely excited about the Pani Puri! Since their Pani Puri was only limited to the 70$ tasting menu.
To our disappointment, the first course only had one Pani Puri and one Dahi puri! Generally Pani Puris are extremely small and served in groups of 5-6. We thought since its a tasting menu we would get 3 each! The one we had was tasty enough to not be completely ruin our evening (It was that good). However, we won't be making the one hour long drive since that was the highlight of the meal. Earlier they used to give 3 of them in a tasting menu. Not sure what changed.
Would say food is good but not great for the price. A couple of small plates were real disappointments in terms of taste. One of the dishes was over fried n soggy with oil.
Service can be improved. We had to ask for our cocktails twice after ordering them first and were only served when the third appetizer arrived on the table!
The food is absolutely outstanding at Rooh. The modern Indian touch is well done and flavorful. The drink selection is equally outstanding. I would highly recommend it.
The food at Rooh is outstanding. Definitely get a sense of Indian food being elevated with unexpected, bright flavors. I am already planning a return trip.
Rooh came highly recommended by a friend. Decided to take BF for birthday celebration. It is lovely restaurant and service is excellent. Overall, I had a good experience and would consider returning. However, for the high price, I didn't think it was a quite worth it. While the food was nicely presented and creatively considered, it just didn't seem worth the $150 tab.
Food was superb !!!
Super Tasty! the staff are always amazing and accommodating. the drinks are fun and change with the seasons. highly recommend this place!
Excellent food, good attentive service, great place to go with colleagues for a special meal.
I don’t have to go to London for great Indian food since Rooh has opened. There was not a single mid-step from arrival to departure. Every staff person we talked with was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Each dish was a remarkable experience. The flavors are diverse, authentic and taste marvelous. We so enjoyed the personal comments about the regional variations of the pani poori. This is our new favorite restaurant. We’ll go back.
