About six months ago I was there and really impressed. Not this time.
We showed up early and decided to eat at the bar. Both bartenders knew all the details of the food menu and made some great suggestions. All the food we ordered was delicious but my favorite was the cauliflower.
I will definitely go back!!
Food is outstanding, creative with unusual flavors. Service first rate. Consistently this level.
It was a perfect experience, to be honest. The tea China was stunning. The chicken curry was delicious. The noise level was nice and low so it was easy to have a conversation with my lunch mate. It was about $70 for 2 people, which is on the pricey side for SF, but not insane. I will be back.
Easily worth missing. End of story.
New desserts introduce to celebrate the Festival 'Holi' and recommended by the chef were awesome. Seems like I would be becoming a regular here :-)
Most dishes were too spicy and lunch for two was $90 so fairly pricey.
Rooh never fails to impress. Great food and new additions
Lovely environment and on our visit superb service were the highlights. The waiter's recommendations
were spot-on, with the highlight being the jackfruit tacos. We would come back just for those. Lamb
Korma was tasty but a bit greasy for California diets. Recommended cashew cake and barfi dessert was also a highlight.
Excellent contemporary Indian.
A bit pricey though
We had a great time celebrating my husband’s birthday! The service and food were excellent, thank you for making it special!
Love Rooh. The jackfruit tacos are superb- spicy buy unique. The turmeric gin tonic is a real treat.
Not too many options in their lunch menu.
Pricy compare to the quantity.
Main lunch item 'chicken curry' was not that great cold and prepared very unprofessionally.
Rooh is a great place to eat our with family and friends. Great ambiance and very good service. The menu is traditional Indian food with a twist. A bit on the expensive side but you will enjoy
The restaurant doesn't honor reservation timings and the management has an attitude with how they deal with customers. There is no point to a reservation system if you don't seat customers for the time they make the booking, waited 35 minutes past our reservation time before we got seated with no sign of sincere apology from the team. Great food by the end of the meal but would choose Amber any day over this to avoid the frustration. Not a place to bring anyone of importance to because of how they treat customers.
Awesome experience... great food, ambiance and service. Everything was just perfect.
Absolutely divine experience at ROOH. We have been wanting to come here for years and finally made it a point to come in. All of the food was so creative and excellently executed. The simplest things blew my mind, like the cheddar naan or the duck seekh kabab. Never have I had a seekh kabab so luscious! Even the Black Dairy Dal was just delicious, reminded me of world-renowned dal I've had in major restaurants in India. A true experience, we cannot wait to come back and eat all of the rest of the dishes AND re-order all of the dishes we had already!
The food was unique, delicious and well-portioned. The live music was good, but too loud. We needed to lean across the table to be heard.
The place is good, food choices were limited as ut was brunch special on saturday, we went seeing the lunch menu so was wxpecting something more... but the food and service were so good to make us come out happy and tummy yummy
The food and atmosphere was good. Live music for Saturday brunch. It was very hard to get the waiters attention. We had to consistently look for them and waive hands and stuff.
Amazing and my husband and friends are Indian and everyone loves this place — we’ve been 3x and would go weekly if finances allowed
It was our anniversary, and we decided to celebrate there. Our server was nice and was helpful going through the menu. We ordered naan as our first appetizer but didn’t get it till the end of our meal. Other then the naan coming out last the dishes were authentic and tasty.
We never knew when we booked that we were booking for a high table. This should have been mentioned so that we can book for an appropriate table.
The lights were very dim - so dim that we had to use our cell phone's flashlight to read the menu.
The food was excellent and so was the service.
Everything was amazing!
The table that was given to us was near one of the exits that the staff used frequently to take breaks for smoking etc. It was cold and opening of that door over and over made it worse. The manager came when we asked for another table and said he has turned on the heating and it should be fixed in 15 mins. That did not help and we had to sit with out jackets on to not be cold. Food was good and our waiter was good. I wish they would keep the place at a nicer temperature in that area.
Outstanding, innovative, modern Indian. Great tastes, variety, wonderful serfvice and beautiful restaurant.
Eevery dish was consistently amazing as was the wine!
The hostess and greeting was great. We were early for our reservation, but that wasn't a problem. We sat down and got water within the first few minutes. A drink order was taken and we ordered a chutney sampler. The avocado raita was disappointing as there are just a couple chunks in the ramekin they give you rather than it being whipped into the raita as we thought it would be. The menu was highly involved and maybe a little less informative for the amount of explanation it took for us to order. The pinwheel was delicious, the dumplings were also very good (although not what I wold expect a dumpling as they were ore life a kofta). The service slowed as the place began to get busier so I don't think they were staffed properly. I will be back, but there is definitely room for improvement.
I was really excited to try Rooh, cause I had heard a lot of great things. But my experience was poor.
The good: Service was spot on. Very attentive, giving recommendations, great. Cocktails were delicious. Variety of choices.
The bad: The food was less than average. We had Flower Koliwada - basic cauliflower covered in way too much sauce which just tasted like ketchup. I literally ate spoons of ketchup.
Duck Kebab - dry and too salty. Tasted like a cheap sausage.
Butter chicken - sauce tasted like store bought, bland tomatoe puree.
Saffron rice - cold.
Only good thing - garlic naan.
Will not rush back for that food for those prices.
Food was very good as usual. Only thing that was annoying was that though we gave our drinks order first the drinks never came till we asked for them again. Eventually they served the drinks after the entree was served.
Loved it! Innovative and delicious offerings. Lovely decor, great service. Can’t wait for the next visit!!
Very nice ambiance, and they try to have very unique combination of recipes and cocktails/drinks. Portions are rather small and overall food taste was OK, not excellent. So overall value, I'd say it's on the pricey side given the portions and quality of food/taste. Nice place for groups though.
We had a great time. The food was excellent. Service was good. Loved the live band. We will definitely visit again.
Brunch was off in flavor ingredient freshness when compared with dinner
Very disappointed with the service. We had to wait 45 mins for our table even with a reservation! The service was poor, we were rushed through our dinner and drinks seemed like they were made in a hurry (not as good as they were the last time we came here which was on a Monday). It was my husband's 30th birthday and I had pre-ordered a dessert to be brought to the table at the end and it never arrived. Such a bummer, Rooh completely ruined our celebrations :(
This was our first time at the restaurant. The food that we ordered was excellent; flavors of India, but combined in interesting ways with different ingredients and some different styles of preparing the ingredients. I found it inventive and definitely appealing. Although the restaurant was busy, it didn't seem overly full, and service was unfortunately less than optimal. Our table was rocky on what I guess was an uneven floor. We asked for shims of some kind to stabilize it; they never came. I spent the dinner with my legs spread, feet planted on either side of the table base to hold it steady. Similarly, when we asked for more naan to continue to savor the excellent dish of a variety of chutneys, they never appeared -- although the staffperson clarified that we wanted more of the garlic naan. One plus: we asked for our waitperson's advice for on a contrasting third small plate, given what we had ordered, and her suggestion was a good one. The restaurant was unfortunately rather noisier than we would have liked, but we were able to manage to carry out a conversation with a bit of repetition.
Can't wait to go back. I thought they NAILED Indian flavor palette! Five stars!
I love Rooh! The food is beautiful and delicious. It's pricey (any slightly fancy restaurant in this area is pricey), but the service is really wonderful. I've loved the chicken curry of the day and the kulchas!
Awesome cocktails! Food was great. What should be served free, was charged as sampler (Papad and chutneys). Having said that, it tasted awesome. Presentation of each food was very classy and appealing. Dessert was too sweet (excessively sweet for our taste). Overall I would give it 4/5. Will certainly visit for lunch once and see if that can top this experience.
We have been here several times and Everytime we go, we get surprised by how good the food is. There is always something new on the menu to try and it's spectacular.
This time we went, there was live music ( Indian- Western fusion) and we loved it.
Amazing variation in the look of the regular food. Finally found an indian date place. Perfect for a date. The flavors can improve a bit. Ambiance is amazing. The noise level is a bit louder that I would expect from such place. The service is amazing. Birthday dessert looks amazing - they make your special events more special. Overall loved it - will visit again.
