ROOH San Francisco
Book your next event with us
My boyfriend and I dine at Rooh on regular bases. It’s the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. Servers are super friendly. Jeffrey is always nice to us. We will be back soon.
We had the worst experience at Rooh SF on Valentines Day. I was really looking forward to eating here, as we have eaten here in the past and its usually always delicious. We chose the restaurant a month or so ago knowing they were not going to do a prefixed menu. I booked us tickets to an event prior to dinner and we finished early there. Very early so we went to grab a drink at a bar and called Rooh SF to see if we could come 30 minutes earlier at 930. We were told no. When we got to Rooh at 948 (our reservation was at 10) there were 15+ tables empty and set up. Hmmm and I couldnt have come in at 930? The menu ended up being fixed. A phone call I received the day prior to our reservation. And the cost 80 per person and 30 dollars extra for wine pairing. Thats fine. We don’t mind spending money on delicious food. However, the food was not delicious. It was a major let down and the wine pairing we could not pair as the wine was never brought until the end of course and once was completely forgotten about and brought for the second course after the first had already been eaten. It was a shame ! The restaurant at this point past 10pm was not busy. After sitting there for 25 + minutes waiting for the dessert course we let the waiter know we had been there for 25 minutes waiting. We waited for another 15 minutes and then just asked for the bill and left. We never did receive our dessert course. We paid 300 for the bill. It was a MAJOR let down. I am so beyond disappointed in Rooh SF. I am unsure if I will ever go here again.
Absolutely love Rooh! Food was amazing and service was great. Can’t wait to go back.
This is our 2nd time celebrating a birthday at ROOH. We love the cocktails and the service was great. There were a couple hit and misses for us. The duck (small plate) was a miss for us, it became cold real fast and it became thick like jello. Our favorite was the cauliflower, that was very good. I thought the portion of the short rib was very small and just felt for that price it could of been more. We just felt the portions were too small for the price. Overall, we had a nice evening.
Our server was extremely helpful with recommendations, and everything we ordered was stellar!
We went to this restaurant on a Monday night. It had been a long time since I visited this restaurant may be good for the wallet. I made a special request of Jain food items. The chef was able to comply by my dietary restrictions and make a few food items extremely delicious and pretty looking. I ordered the avocado bhel and Paneer curry, the avocado bhel had its own unique flavor and preparation was different from the tradition bhel.
It was a bit noisy for a Monday night but our server took good care of us.
Love the dinner, hated the brunch. No one took our order or stopped by our table for like 20 minutes. Multiple waiters were asking us about our selection. It got really cold all of sudden in the middle of our meal. Our food came out sporadically. It was just a very off brunch - which is funny because the dinners there are fantastic.
Reached at 8:45 for a 9pm table. I've been here before and wanted to try a few new things, so I booked a table during restaurant week. When we asked for that menu, they said they're sold out. We insisted on it and they absolutely said no. Said come back next time maybe. How could they have been sold out if each of the item is available on the regular menu? Typical sham to get customers to come in and then bait and switch.
We were offered a bar seat, but were told we'd have to wait for a table and were finally seated at 9:15
Absolutely horrendous! Our food took more than an hour and each server told us that they're not actually our servers.
Average and small portion sizes.
Overall, a very disappointing experience at 100$ pp.
We got a table by the restrooms which was very disappointing. The food was mediocre and nothing innovative. They haven’t changed their menu much.
Loved Rooh. Excellent cocktails to pair with delicious food. The portions were generous and the flavors were on the spot. Ambiance was great too
I am so glad I got the chance to try ROOH, which hails from the Good Times Restaurant Group, and has become so successful in their location on Brannan Street a mere blocks from Oracle Park. When we arrived for our reservations on a Friday night at 5:30 p.m. there were a few customers inside it was practically empty, but by the time we left they were packed the brim with people waiting in their vestibule and outside. One of the many reasons we selected ROOH to dine at was because the description of their dishes were written online so sumptuously that my friend and I were sold upon first glance!
This was one of the best meals I have had in quite some time and one of the finest Indian meals perhaps ever and at sixty-five dollars it wasn't too expensive to enjoy greatness. Each dish outclassed and outshone the next, I now get the full realization of what a progressive menu is, and I can't wait to experience my next food adventure at ROOH, whether it be cocktails at the bar or a nice warm meal in their dining room, this was an experience to be relived over and over again!
Food was good. But service was one of the slowest I have experienced in a long time. It took us almost 2.5 hours to get our food and eat it. At many points, it seemed as though they had completely forgotten about our food. Disappointed.
Tasty food, lively ambience, good SOMA spot for a young crowd. Service spotty.
Great location and unique high quality Indian food experiences.
Rooh has been a go-to for groups for my team for years, but this last experience was a disappointment. The menu has always been a bit confusing, but the new menu takes that to a whole new level. While we asked for assistance, the waiter did not properly recommend the amount of dishes for the six of us. Even after ordering seconds, we left not completely full. I feel like the prices are staying the same while the portion sizes are decreasing.
Wonderful spot to get creative Indian food! Would recommend
Great food. Great service. Lots of options. Drink menu was wonderful. Atmosphere was great.
Well cooked food, low on oiliness. Thought it was pricey for the kind and amount of food you are served. Service was not frequent. We ended up ordering a side dish from the bus-person, but I guess he never placed our order and after 12 minutes, we flagged down a waiter (not ours) to check on the additional order we made and it was never placed. We went at noon on a weekend and my husband wasn't hungry so he ordered a tuna tartare which was under the main entree section, but I guess the waiter assumed that was to be an appetizer and my meat main was to share. They did not serve my main until the tartare was finished. Unfortunately, he just sat there watching me eat my main b/c he does not eat meat and while we waited for the side of vegan curry, which came well after I finished my meal. So overall, service was ok, given the two mishaps.
Fabulous! The food was amazing. I would definitely recommend to anyone that likes good/classy Indian.
The food was good but the waitress was pushy and we waited quite long time to get our appetizer/small plates.
Tiny portions and frankly not very impressed given the hype. I tried the prix fix restaurant week menu along with a himachal mocktail- was hungry so had to order another side dish.
We enjoyed the appetizers. For Main course, we ordered butter chicken but It wasn’t that great!
I had a high expectation based on the reviews on Yelp but it felt short of it. The vegetarian dishes were alright but nothing out of the ordinary, the flavors were alright. The quantity of gravy in the paneer pinwheel was quite less making it hard to eat the three pieces. ( Gravy was tasty). The non-alcoholic drinks were ok, nothing we would order again. Overall for a vegetarian, non-alcoholic person, it's a-ok place.
Amazing, creative Indian food using very high quality ingredients...cocktail menu and mocktail menu superb
I am very happy that we tried ROOH - the food is very good and the wine selection is really enjoyable and impressive as well! The waiter was a bit confused, forgot to bring our wine, but was generally very friendly and professional. The atmosphere was beautiful and not too noisy for San Francisco standards. I will probably not come again, because the food was not outstanding enough and too expensive for what it actually was.
Nouveau Indian inspired dishes. Spot on service. For those seeking what is beyond typical Indian fare. Want to get back there and try the cocktails.
The experience was wonderful. But the service wasn’t that outstanding. The food was completely balanced with a lot of spices.
Our server was very sweet, she hosted us wonderfully giving good suggestions for food, excellent service. Was expecting complimentary items such as papad or chutneys but in fact they charged us for onions .
Overall good food, Paneer curry quantity was less . Appetizers were great. Dessert Phirni moose was awesome.
They should add more dishes as person who visits 2-3 times, will not have anything to discover
Good place and unique food a bit pricy great drinks
First time and I can’t wait to go back! Food and service were extraordinary!
Excellent service and wonderful food. The chef seems to be quite well-traveled in India since some of the flavors he brings out in the dishes are truly unique and very specific to certain regions. The paneer appetizer was excellent as were the jackfruit tacos. Highly recommended.
New Year’s Eve dinner event. The food wasn’t spectacular but the menu was very thoughtful and well curated. The Maitre d’ ruined the occasion with his attitude - spilt my drink and acted like it didn’t happen🤨, no apology, no wipe up for the price of the meal, he needs an attitude change or a different job!
Not going back, though our assigned waiter was very good , the food is ok and doesn’t warrant a return trip.
Delicious fine dining gourmet Indian food ! ROOH provides an excellent ambience for special occasions, accompanied with a very generous service and sumptuous food. They made special custom dishes for JAIN food (pure vegetarian with no onion, garlic, potato). The chef made a mix-veg Paneer entree not on the menu, because we wanted Jain food. We thoroughly enjoyed the attentive service, and food quality. The staff makes you feel special for every minute you spent in the restaurant. We went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday, so they offered us a complimentary dessert as a gift! Thank you for the great food and service. We look forward to your upcoming branch in Palo Alto.
Read reviews before going here and was mixed . But was absolutely perfect friendly staff . Beautiful place , great cocktails , food was the best Indian food I’ve ever had. Gutted I live in the uk nothing will match this
My recent experience at ROOH was memorable. What struck us most was the mark of class that was very distinct. We have not experienced such a class here in the US in our 20 years of dining. The space was very comfortable and private fit for sharing special moments - although the largest cubicle could maybe seat 5 at the most comfortably. The Kadhai paneer, dal makhani and Goat cheese peas khulcha were our favorites. The Phirni dessert with Tandai was to die for! Our best compliments to the chef and thanks to our hostess for the recommendation.
Enjoyed the food
Creative and thoughtful menu with options to accommodate any kind of eater. Great food, well presented in a comfortable and beautiful environment. Portions are small, and prices are high (esp for the quantity) but the tastes make it worth it for an occasion.
Utter disappointment. See photo below for more details.
I would highly recommend ROOH's weekend brunch menu. It has a number of delicious vegetarian options including the frittata and Green Pea and Goat Cheese kulcha. The cocktail menu is also superb.
Food was delicious and fresh
Some traditional dishes were missing
Was quite expensive
