Very disappointed with the service. We had to wait 45 mins for our table even with a reservation! The service was poor, we were rushed through our dinner and drinks seemed like they were made in a hurry (not as good as they were the last time we came here which was on a Monday). It was my husband's 30th birthday and I had pre-ordered a dessert to be brought to the table at the end and it never arrived. Such a bummer, Rooh completely ruined our celebrations :(
This was our first time at the restaurant. The food that we ordered was excellent; flavors of India, but combined in interesting ways with different ingredients and some different styles of preparing the ingredients. I found it inventive and definitely appealing. Although the restaurant was busy, it didn't seem overly full, and service was unfortunately less than optimal. Our table was rocky on what I guess was an uneven floor. We asked for shims of some kind to stabilize it; they never came. I spent the dinner with my legs spread, feet planted on either side of the table base to hold it steady. Similarly, when we asked for more naan to continue to savor the excellent dish of a variety of chutneys, they never appeared -- although the staffperson clarified that we wanted more of the garlic naan. One plus: we asked for our waitperson's advice for on a contrasting third small plate, given what we had ordered, and her suggestion was a good one. The restaurant was unfortunately rather noisier than we would have liked, but we were able to manage to carry out a conversation with a bit of repetition.
I love Rooh! The food is beautiful and delicious. It's pricey (any slightly fancy restaurant in this area is pricey), but the service is really wonderful. I've loved the chicken curry of the day and the kulchas!
Awesome cocktails! Food was great. What should be served free, was charged as sampler (Papad and chutneys). Having said that, it tasted awesome. Presentation of each food was very classy and appealing. Dessert was too sweet (excessively sweet for our taste). Overall I would give it 4/5. Will certainly visit for lunch once and see if that can top this experience.
We have been here several times and Everytime we go, we get surprised by how good the food is. There is always something new on the menu to try and it's spectacular.
This time we went, there was live music ( Indian- Western fusion) and we loved it.
Amazing variation in the look of the regular food. Finally found an indian date place. Perfect for a date. The flavors can improve a bit. Ambiance is amazing. The noise level is a bit louder that I would expect from such place. The service is amazing. Birthday dessert looks amazing - they make your special events more special. Overall loved it - will visit again.
Atmosphere very nice. Interesting menu. Interesting combinations presented nicely. Not your typical Indian food. We ordered a number of dishes, but none of them was anything that we thought was delicious or wanted to eat again. The food was not up to the prices. Service was just acceptable. We will not return.
A beautiful experience: from ambiance of the lovely space and the the intriguing and playful approach to cuisine to the intoxicating smell that wafts our thendoor and down the street. My first Rooh experience two weeks ago was so dreamy I looked for an excuse to go back this week. Equally perfect for dinner and lunch!
Amazing experience. Great ambience, innovative flavorful food. Will definitely come back!
This is our second visit to ROOH but it wasn’t a good as the first. Maybe it was the dishes we chose this time but it didn’t live up to the cost of the meal. Service was great though.
Most amazing Indian food I've ever eaten. Great wine selection too!
I was there with another person on a business lunch and we ordered 4 things to share. The waiter never told us one of the entrees is no longer on the menu (even though it was on the menu we were given) until someone brought another dish we didn't order or know anything about and tried to give us that instead? 15 minutes later the waiter apologized for not telling us sooner?! I told the waiter when we sat down I needed to be out by a certain time with the check paid, but he forgot about that and had to be reminded at the end of the meal. If this restaurant wants to attract the lunch business crowd they need to get it together from a service perspective. I like the food but often have slow service.
Short rib "curry" was terrible. Two cubes of fatty rib meat and a side of cold mashed potatoes doused at the table with a bland, oily sauce. My partner had the pork curry. Also fatty, with a revolting sauce. The appetizer was good. Double baked pumpkin-like merengue sort of thing. Service was inattentive. Long wait to order. Appetizer came out 3 minutes before main dishes. No water refill until explictly requested at end of meal. They're trying to deliver a cuisine that's uniquely their own. For us they failed miserably. The food/experience was so bad that we felt sick the rest of the night and have made Rooh into a running joke since then.
We went to Rooh to celebrate my husband’a birthday. Although I had reserved a high top table about 3 weeks before the birthday, they didn’t have a table ready for us when we arrived. They made us wait 15-20 mins despite the reservation. I was a little disappointed by this.
I was asked if we were coming for a special occasion to Rooh so they can make special arrangements and I mentioned that we’d like to celebrate my husband’s birthday. However, I didn’t feel anything was specially done for the occasion.
Other than this, the service was good. The food was incredible and the experience was great. Would recommend the place for the tasty food and crafty drinks.
delicious food, innovative menu, friendly service!
Delicious, really impressive and inventive food, both for dishes that are more Indian in inspiration and those that are more European in style. Worth a Michelin star, in our view (and we've eaten at a great many one-, two-, and three-star restaurants). Friendly, enthusiastic, and excellent service. The noise level is a bit high for conversation at times, but it depends on what music is playing.
This was my second time to Rooh, having absolutely loved it the first time. I drove from Napa to bring a friend on her birthday here. Was very disappointed for a couple of reasons. One reason is as follows having to do with service staff: I described to my waiter a dish I had had the first time and wanted to order again, he convinced me he knew what it was and put in an order. We had ordered the flat crispy breads with 3 chutneys and then this other dish among our appetizers. A different server brought this second dish and I immediately said it was not the right item. This second server rolled her eyes and insisted it is what we ordered. I tried to explain that while it may be what he told me to order, it was not what I wanted. It was almost a duplicate of the first item with same 3 dipping sauces and just naan bread instead of crispy bread. Since it was hard to make her understand the mix up I asked her to ask the original waiter to come over as he would have easier time to understand. But she rolled her eyes and made a sort of scene challenging me as if I was crazy and drawing other tables attention so I thought well maybe this is the right item as she said they just displayed it differently. Our original waiter happened by a few minutes later and also assured me it was right item. It wasn't. Our waiter was hardly ever coming around...our drinks arrived some time after our appetizes. I did not like my drink. At desert time, I asked to see a menu but waiter said, oh, we have a birthday so I have a gift and went off without asking what deserts we wanted to order. Showed up like 10 minutes later with a birthday cake that was not good at all. Waited until we ate a bit of that to come back another 15 minutes later to ask is we wanted to order any other deserts. No, I wanted to see the desert menu long ago and order them at same time as any "free gift" desert. I remember your deserts being so good form first time. Way too expensive too. Not happy.
Innovative menu in an upscale and relaxed setting
All around great experience!
The food was among the best we have had in San Francisco. We came here because of a great previous experience, but this night was beyond all expectation. The menu for SF Food week was spectacular. We will definitely return.
Amazing food and service!
The food was incredibly overpriced for what we received. Flavors were lacking and it was a disappointing meal overall.
Very small portions for the prices, even the main dishes. I had been to ROOH before and the food was fantastic, but this time it was subpar and underwhelming.
Food was very good except the temperature of the food was lukewarm at best.
The food here is stunningly beautiful as presented and such a surprising, skillful fusion of Indian and Persian, I thought. We had ribs in a pomegranate sauce, falling off the bone and so clean and fresh tasting (yes, that's meat that tasted clean and fresh!) We also had their house curry of the day that was perfection - creamy, savory and again, with really fine chicken. The cocktail menu is wonderful and creative, as well. My husband had one of their cocktails mixed to perfection and I had a glass of French Champagne, the real deal, for $18. In a wine glass. We decided we'd be back!
Great food and ambiance. Our waiter was awesome and made great suggestions for drinks and food (and brought out a great complimentary dessert to celebrate a special occasion). We loved the mule and the jackfruit tacos were my fave! All items were very flavorful. I would pass on the paneer roll next time.
Good vegetarian options!
One of my favorite new finds! The cocktails alone are a real treat.
While the food is rather unconventional, best Indian food my family has ever had.
It is listed on OpenTable as an exceptional restaurant, the dinner I had there a couple of days ago did not confirm that. First, although the place is listed as an Indian cuisine restaurant it is not. I suggest to change the category to Indian Fusion or similar. Despite the fact that Indian spices are lightly used in certain dishes overall I would describe the food as eclectic with light Indian influence. We sampled two appetizers, the cauliflower and the soufflé ones. Cauliflower was quite tasty, the soufflé highly recommended by the waiter as the best on the menu was nothing to write home about. The beef ribs I ordered as a main course were full of filthy fat, absolutely tasteless and I was a step away from sending the dish back. The other entree was OK but not more than that. Desserts were non-Indian again (a small cake and a piece of pie with a scoop of bluntly tasting ice cream), I would rate them average at best. A bottle of Fuller's Ale was the highlight of the dinner and that says it all. The service was good but they should tone down the hype about their food as it doesn't match the reality.
Fabulous dinner at Rooh, which we had never tried before. This is not your typical Indian Restaurant. Yes, it does serve Indian type food, but much more "updated" than the usual fare. Everyone loved their main dish from the mushrooms (vegetarian) to the Lamb Shank and the short ribs. It was all delicious. Appetizers were a great and unusual start to the dinner as well. We had the oysters and a chicken cheese fondue. We commented that if the man dishes were as good as the appetizers, we were in for a real treat. They did not disappoint!. It was all delicious. Service was a little spotty, but it appeared that they were a little short handed. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Rooh
Love the food here, always creative and delicious combination of traditional flavors mixed up in new ways with untraditional themes. The octopus was amazingly tender and flavorful with the spices and sauces 😋and the deserts are equally as creative and tasty
Everything about this place is wonderful! Close to Caltrain - check. Friendly staff - check. Creative menu - check. Delicious food - check. Will return.
Amazing food! Exceeded my expectations! The jackfruit tacos were the best! The butter chicken was delicious and tender.
Our server was so passionate about sharing the dishes!
Incredible meal! Everything about this meal was delicious, from the jackfruit tacos to the butter chicken. Incredible culinary experience
Loved it. Such wonderful food and great atmosphere.
Every dish tasted soulful and full of flavor. Very unique ambience. Severs are friendly. Would love to come back again.
Spectacularly flavorful food.
I've eaten a lot of Indian food in New York (my home), India, etc. This is some of the best
We liked their snacks, specifically tacos. We ate vegetarian food and overall all of us really liked it. It is different in taste.
My fiance and I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Our last visit was on NYE, and the tasting menu was fantastic.
