Despite being a 'chef driven' restaurant per the waiter, I wouldn't necessarily come here for the food, though I'd say it's decent. The burger was solid and the cauliflower was tasty. The mussels could use some tweaking as they are pretty bland and served with very little broth.

But... the beer list (i.e. 'beer program') is quite extensive and a great place to try new beers, with flight options offered. This is a cool after-work hangout for happy hour with a lively bar scene and rooftop.

Probably not the best date night spot if you're looking for somewhere romantic and quiet, depending on your parameters for date nights.

Enjoy!

I visited this establishment with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. We traveled all the way from Harrisburg, PA for the day and this was our last spot for the night. We were quickly seated, as we had made a reservation prior to arriving. Unfortunately, once seated we waited ten minutes and had to make a trip to the hostess stand in order to even receive water, though there were plenty of open tables and did not seem busy. Once greeted, the waiter did not introduce himself or barely even say hello. He was short and was not knowledgeable on the drinks or food we inquired about. Once we received our food he did not once check back to see if everything was alright. This would rarely be a large issue except for the fact that my burger was overcooked. Outside of that our spinach dip was good and my girlfriend’s chicken sandwich was satisfactory. This would have been an unsatisfactory end to what was supposed to be a special occasion. The saving grace was your manager, Cong. My girlfriend works in the restaurant industry and despite her hatred of complaining we called Cong over, explained the situation, and he handled it with complete professionalism. He held a wonderful conversation and took care of any issues. This managed to defuse our demeanors and turn it into an enjoyable night again. We would definitely be more than willing to return again as long as we did not have to deal with that one waiter. Thank you, Cong!!

Came here for trivia night, run by District Trivia. The view of AdMo is nice from inside the restaurant (and they have a rooftop too). Food isn't anything spectacular, but still yummy! Just know that most of their seating during trivia night is reserved, so it's hard to be a walk-in group.

Very friendly and attentive service, I would suggest a different grain of sugar for the donut holes/beignets. The sugar did not cling and made it very difficult for the dipping sauce to stick. Confectioner's sugar will give it a frosting but it would work a lot better!

This is such a find. The fried chicken sandwich and the veggie burger are the best we’ve ever eaten anywhere. And such a fun atmosphere. Wonderful open room that is buzzy. Excellent!

A perfect fit in today’s Adams-Morgan, Roofers Union is completely casual and funky except that they take good food seriously. The menu is varied but everything shows the same thoughtful preparation. The wine list is limited but covers the waterfront with quality options. (They are not cheap, except on half-price Wednesday.) service is very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would definitely return next time we’re in DC.

Came here a few weeks ago with a large party for brunch and service was amazing! My mimosa and water were never empty. Came back this past weekend as a party of 2 and service was just not up to par. Seems like the larger parties got most of the attention and it took us 10 min to get greeted. My mimosa was empty at a point for up to 15 minutes! The food and ambiance were amazing and they never disappoint! I will definitely come back and hopefully service will be better next time.

Food was great, ambiance was great, but the service was horrendous. Both the Manager and our server were aloof, absent, and rude. I've worked as a waiter for 4 years and have never seen anything like it. We will not be returning.

Decent brunch. Good food, try the appetizers, mimosas were weak (heavy OJ), strict 2 hour limit, overall good and plenty of space for larger parties.

We are here from out of town. It happened to be my birthday. This was close to where we were staying so I chose here. The server was very knowledgeable about the wine. He brought us a sample of what my husband was going to choose and one that he recommended. His was a very good choice. The food was outstanding.

We had to make a real conscious effort to get our money's worth for the bottomless mimosas. Had to flag someone down each time we wanted a refill. However our waiter was attentive when it came time to tell us our 2 hours of bottomless were almost over... Not cool. Food was good.

We were a bit disappointed at how loud the dining area was even early on a Sunday night - this seems typical of Adams Morgan restaurants however. And maybe we're just getting too old. The appetizer was alright, the cocktails were fairly good, and we both enjoyed our entrees (note: their online menu is not up to date).

My first experience here was fine. I liked it and though the service was a little iffy the first time our waiter tried.

during this second experience my group received some of the worst experience I've had in a long time. The waitress was not accommodating and rude. When she wasn't at the table she was scowling at us and others in the restaurant.

Excellent meal and fun, energetic room. Brussel sprouts were exceptional, as was the Peruvian smoked chicken. Cauliflower and mussels were also very good. Beer selections were enjoyable but could use a little more traditional selections. Only miss was chocolate mousse.

My sorority sisters and I had a lovely time at brunch this past Saturday. We all got a version of their half Waffle with add-one, and the fried chicken thigh was by far our favorite! It was perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection; certainly a great choice. The Bloody Mary was very tasty, and they kept the bottomless mimosas flowing! The server was a little inattentive but I think that be contributed to the traffic during brunch hours. My favorite part were the huge windows that showed all of 18th ST while you’re dining. It really added to the overall experience. I’ll definitely be returning.

Roofers Union caters to the bar crowd and a very young one at that, and although the food wasn't bad, it was offered at fine dining room prices. In other words, not a place we'll be visiting again.

I have loved my brunch experience here but my dinner experience was not enjoyable. Way too loud with a crowed bar competing over the music. Also the table runners/bar runner took our items to different tables.

Having made reservations in advance we were sat immediately. However, it took ten minutes just for water to be dropped off at the table. Ten more minutes later our server finally stopped by and asked for our order. This was done in a very rushed, college-campus-bar type style. I ordered from the pre-fixe menu (during DC’s restaurant week) expecting to receive a sample of this restaurants better items. The Brussels sprouts were tasty and there were plenty of them but I wouldn’t say they were impressive. The pizza offered a nice flavor but came out cold (no surprise at this point), and the pear cobbler wasn’t worth the one bite I endured. I was expecting a lot more effort, flavor and service from a restaurant with great reviews. Perhaps I went on a really off day?!?

I booked our reservation for 6 people on OpenTable, and the restaurant called to confirm. Then, when we arrived, they could not find my name in the system. The hostesses seemed very incompetent and relatively rude about the whole thing. Eventually they got the manager, who was a gem. He showed them the simple solution on the computer (I guess they didn't know how to work it...?) and then offered our group free donut holes. The server was great, and automatically split the bill like a pro.

They were out of waffles when we went, but the biscuits and gravy were great, and they substituted fruit for home fries. Coffee is mediocre, but the other drinks looked good!

it was a bit loud for conversation for a party of 7. I'd recommend larger tables be put in one section of a restaurant where the speakers are lower or turned off. i don't think it would impact the overall ambience, but it would help conversation for big parties.
