The service wasn’t super hot considering it was busy but not crazy. They refilled some drinks but not what I’d expect for an average place in DC. They also never even asked to refill a friends coffee at the table. Menu was limited and mimosas has pulp.
Although the location was great, the food was delicious and unique, and the ambience was fun and crowded, the service was quite poor. Our waitress not only raised her voice in anger, but she ignored us and walked away from me mid sentence. To top it off, it was my birthday! Unfortunate.
It sucks when you’ve ordered unlimited mimosas and get two over the course of two hours.
I had to hunt my server to get our drinks, beg for one refill and beg for the check. Horrible customer service! The food was good though.
Very good food - Great atmosphere/ambiance - Friendly service but could improve a smidge - Great value to price ratio - OVERALL: B+/A- - it's a good place...go there!!
We had such great brunch here! The staff was awesome and the bottomless mimosas were so good!
Really enjoyable brunch - food was great.
New Year’s Eve is not the best night to try a new restaurant but Roofers Union turned out to be the perfect choice for our group of close friends. The table was ready for us when we arrived. Wonderful large windows overlooking 18th Street and high ceilings create a very open spacious atmosphere. The decor is modern but with a reassuring dose of tradition. The menu is interesting and somewhat eclectic which suited our group perfectly as we were a mix of vegans, omnivores, and various dietary permutations. The home made sausages, duck pot pie, and scallops over risotto were particular hits. The spinach dip served with pretzel rounds was outstanding. The drinks menu is extensive with many signature cocktails, wines by the glass and by the bottle, many beers on tap and in bottle, the list goes on. Service was friendly, attentive, and easy. A great place for an informal New Year’s Eve or almost any occasion.
Great brunch! The food was good at a reasonable DC price, but we came for the bottomless mimosas - and they delivered! I don't think my glass ever went dry during the 3 hours we were there. It was quiet enough to have good conversation, but the restaurant was still lively. We made a reservation but there were a few open tables when we arrived.
The food is not terrible. I did not like the mac & cheese and I thought that the pork bites were just OK. I also had the peach cobbler, which I found slightly disappointing from our flavor perspective. My guest and I had sandwiches, which were good. The spicy chicken sandwich was excellent. Really excellent. Thus, I think that the food is fine, not amazing, but certainly worth a casual night out. The drinks were incredible, and I suspect that’s where their strengths lie. Dining room has lots of televisions playing sports.
Deviled eggs we interesting. The egg whites were frozen and hard. My burger ordered medium was basically still mooing. Wouldn’t hurry back.
The food was creative, atmosphere wonderful and the staff, including management, was incredibly, but not overly, attentive.
Went for brunch with some girlfriends and the food was great. The service was slow and the food was slightly cold by the time we got it. Couldn't tell if the server just wasn't doing things fast enough or if they were short-staffed, but overall it didn't dampen our mood much. Food was great!
Love the setting on the second floor, with the large and bright room with tall windows. Went there for brunch, and it was perfect although a bit noisy towards the end as the room got really full, with lots of large tables.
Very solid food. Nice vibe. Service was friendly and helpful.
We had a great evening!!!
Great atmosphere and great mimosas!
Great location, Unique food options but not really a good selection if you're a vegetarian. Service was great. The hostess honored my request for a window table that I made when I made my online reservation and our waitress was equally amazing. Loved the option of being able to taste the beer prior to purchasing it. This allows you to experiment a little.
Great night out in Adams Morgan with family and friends!! The Brussel sprouts and chips and French onion dip are to die for!!
We went to celebrate our anniversary. We mentioned on Open Table that we had gotten married there. Every single person, from the water pourer to the manager, said happy anniversary. They made our dinner almost as special as our original wedding. The guests from four years ago still talk about how perfect the wedding was. (Tip: the steak and brussels sprouts are amazing!)
Chips and dip were amazing. Fun neighborhood with a unique view.
Great exploring the beer selection, food was varied and good, service excellent. We loved the windows overlooking Adams Morgan traffic.
Reallly. Really. Great. Everything was awesome.
I do not recommend this restaurant. The service was horrible. My steak was over done and it took over 15 minutes for the waiter to come back and check on our food. He stood over talking to another waiter instead of doing his job. They brought me another steak and it tasted horrible and was almost raw. They didn't take off any for the steak even though I had to wait so long to get another steak. Our bill was over 80.00. Spend your money some place else. There are too many other great restaurants to pick from.
The overall ambiance of Roofers Union was what made the experience really incredible. The view of Adams Morgan from the wide windows was really something (even when the day wasn't particularly pretty). The beer list is expansive so it was easy to find something and they let you sample the beers as well so it is easy to get a beer that you actually like.
Came here for brunch and bottomless mimosas and was not disappointed. The "Hot Mess' on the menu was the perfect hangover meal. Would recommend.
Jessie’s quiz night made the evening. Good atmosphere with a distinct locals nature to the bar. Tricky questions though.
Hostess really didn’t acknowledge us and seated other tables that came in after us and the manager/supervisor seated us. Took 25 min. From being seated to ordering as the server was training someone and had too many tables. Food was average, with plates presented incomplete (no butter or syrup for waffle, dry toast, etc.)
My husband and I went for brunch and it was lovely. My poached egg and smoked salmon over potato gratin was delicious and his chicken and waffle was enormous! Ask for the honey siracha sauce on the side, you won’t regret it!
Great atmosphere! Overpriced and very limited menu. No choices. Overpriced wine. Poor service. Left a tip even though it wasn’t warranted.
I booked Roofer's Union for a party of 14 - our office group was in town for a conference and needed a place that could accommodate a variety of tastes. Roofer's Union was a delightful choice with attentive and timely service, a great table near the windows looking over Adams Morgan and the downpour of rain, a good variety of food and beverage choices and overall a very pleasant evening.
Our group enjoyed the restaurant very much and I would definitely recommend this as a great work/office venue.
Thanks to your staff for making it all happen!
The open table website's drink menu for Roofers Union should be updated. We had salad and sauted cauliflower, half smoke and chicken sausages with mixed drinks and beer. All good! It was clean, properly air conditioned and had friendly staff.
The food was amazing and you would be a fool to pass up the fried chicken thigh. Honestly it was the best fried chicken I’ve had in DC. I had that with eggs and waffles. The bottomless mimosa deal is amazing. Considering for 15 bottomless mimosas but for 10
You can get one glass of mimosa. The service was beyond impeccable and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. I’m going back again111111
It’s unfortunate the food was so good, we both had the burger and split the tots. However that’s where it stops.
We were exactly on time for our reservation and entered the restaurant a bit cautious after being rudely greeted by two bouncers who questioned us about where we were going while they insisted on checking IDs. Realizing there’s a rooftop bar, there is a second stairway that could easily accommodate this checkpoint and leave restaurant guests a bit more welcomed.
We entered and stood in front of the host stand, and waited a good minute before being spoken to while the manager and host looked at the computer screen, never acknowledging our arrival. Once they did, we were sat at a very crowded corner table directly beside the bar where we had a visual under the bar top up the bar patrons skirts, and dangerously close to the back of the bar where we were later littered with dirty silverware as a server cleared the bar from our side, butt in our faces, no apology or excuse. This happened repeatedly actually.
We only ordered water, which apparently never gets refilled, the tots appetizer and two burgers. After about 30 minutes the burgers came, followed by the server who realized the tots had never arrived. He ran off to get them although I told him to forget them. They arrived shortly after.
As I said, the food was great. Our meals well above average. But I never received water refills even after asking. Finally I asked for the bill. The server returned, I went to hand him my card, but he was too rushed and bothered to take it, leaving the check on the table. He clearly saw me handing him my card.
15 minutes later, I waved the server down to run my card.
The service was horrible. Nobody came to check on us, the manager never stopped by to apologize for the misplaced apps, nothing. Sadly, my tip reflected the poor service and a note left of the bill for clarification.
We won’t be back!
Great food and drinks!
Excellent brunch spot with a great buzz. Try the bottomless mimosas.
I would go back again and recommend it to others. The space was wonderful. We were inside, because they don't take reservations for the rooftop. There are floor-to-ceiling windows and raised ceilings that make the space almost feel like outside. The food was very good. The spinach dip and fried green tomato dish were delicious. The fried chicken thigh sandwich tasted great. It was half-price wine and cider night, so the total bill was a pleasantly low amount. The service was a bit iffy. The waiter was not very attentive and had to be flagged down twice. However, when he was there, he had helpful suggestions and was very personable. The up side is that we were not rushed. One of our party politely sent the steak back because it was well done on the edges where you naturally cut first, but the order was for medium rare. They brought it back out sliced in the middle to show some red. The table agreed his tone was a just a bit aggressive and defensive about how it was cooked. I honestly don't know if medium rare flank steak should be gray on the edges, but they brought my friend a new, rare steak, which was good.
Fun night had by all!!
We had the cauliflower and asparagus starters. Both were very tasty. Then the flatbread and mussels for shared main courses. Lots of choices, so we need to go back. The beer menu is overwhelming. That alone deserves a return visit. The staff is very responsive and engaging.
Extremely loud on the terrace. Decent food though nothing out-of-this world.
