Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar
The place needs urgent renovation. Food is good, but overpriced, particularly the wine.
The restaurant was closed! A security guard told me that the restaurant does not open on Mondays. This, despite the fact that I was able to make an online reservation, and received two texts from the restaurant asking me to confirm my reservation. Simply ridiculous.
The brunch was a wonderful addition to our trip to the Kennedy Center. Service was impeccable.
I recommend the Roof Terrace for its convenience factor and regularly have brunch there before matinee ballet performances. This visit was a disappointment, though. The buffet is in the kitchen --not an attractive setting, but the offerings are good, and there is an omelet station and dessert table out in the main dining area. This visit I went as always to my favorite item, smoked salmon. It was there, nicely laid out, along side cream cheese, capers, grated egg and all the trimmings EXCEPT no bagels or bread or crackers of any kind? When I asked where the usual bagel and bread basket, along with the toaster, had gone the chef and the manager acted like this was a shock and "had to check" -- only to report no bagels or bread had been delivered, though they still put out the items that would have topped them. Later a staff member who had heard me reported that they've been missing those items for several weekend brunches now. Next time I will call ahead and reinforce that this is a major misstep. I saw many others simply walk away from that station because there were no bagels or breads to enjoy the salmon on.
The plating was very inconsistent...some of us had plenty on our plate while others had hardly any veg. We all ordered the same plate (filet mignon). The protein was at the ordered temperature. The price for the plate seemed high for what was presented.
For the first time ever we had a less than wonderful experience at the Roof Terrace. The food was good but our server was unfriendly and unhelpful and the service was slow and inattentive. This was embarrassing, because we had brought visitors from South Africa as our guests. One of the servers poured water into my mixed drink instead of my water glass, making it almost tasteless, although I decided not to make an issue of it. For the prices being charged here, the service should be no less than excellent. We have always enjoyed dining here, but will think again before bringing guests in the future. I feel we could have had a much better dining experience somewhere else at much less cost.
Attending performance at the Kennedy Center
Really a lovely experience, especially as a prelude to a show.
The personnel are warm and courteous. I thought the room could be a little bit more colorful
It is a treat which we save for important events.
T he mint ice cream was a real hit.
Pre Opera dinner that is excellent option along with parking pass and dining right at the Kennedy Center.
Good before you are seeing a show at
Kennedy 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 food has declined over the years
Great. Keep it up. Food was very good. Service was great.
Food was great -- lots of variety for the Kitchen Brunch and it included Champagne ! Plus the amazing views from the top of the Kennedy Center.
Always a pleasure to dine at the Terrace then enjoy a performance!
Greatly improved over times past. Food was excellent (salmon; scollops). Timely on tight schedule.
I've had good experiences eating at the Rooftop Terrace Restaurant in the past. But this time, service was awful!! Our waiter didn't appear at our table for almost 20 minutes. Throughout the night, the waiter continued to be slow, inattentive, elusive. The food was good, but didn't make up for the subpar service!
Shared a great meal with friends before the opera. Our waiter was very busy, but we did get to the opera with a few minutes to spare.
I am not sure I would recommend for a dinner. The food was not top notch. The ambience and the service was nice. The drinks great. Maybe better for just drinks and hors d'oeuvres.
Food is okay — Not great. Menu had a lot of room for improvement. Staff was very pleasant. We were seated by 5:45 and asked the time for our show which was 7:45. We didn’t get out of there until 7:15! Explanation was our order was given to someone else ....
The food was up to it’s usual good standard. The service was slow, so slow, that we were forced to rush away to our concert before we were done with the meal. It took nearly half an hour to get one bowl of soup delivered. At the end we’re we’re given the wrong check. So that took extra time to sort out. Not a meal that one would wish for.
Food was good but not exceptional. It's overpriced, like other Kennedy Center food options. The service was excellent, however.
We had a delicious meal at the Roof Terrace preceding our attendance at "Otello" at the Opera House. I enjoyed the sweet potato bisque soup and the bass with a melange of vegetables; my husband had the lobster tempura and filet mignon topped with fois gras - all excellent. The service was quick and mostly efficient, though my husband was given another diner's appetizer (also the lobster) by mistake. However, our server quickly remedied that error. Unfortunately the espresso machine was not in operation, but hopefully it will be fixed soon. This was our third time dining here and we will certainly return when we are at the Kennedy Center next. The restaurant is expensive, but definitely worth it for an occasional treat.
It feels more like a food hall than a restaurant. We had the charcuterie and cheese boards and they were terrible. Low quality ingredients.
Food was lukewarm not a great experience
I am glad to see that the restaurant is open again. However, the food was just average. The sweet potato soup was good, but the bass was not firm. It was very soft and mushy.
It was the best night in a long time for me and my girlfriend. The food was awesome and wine was excellent. My girlfriend was very impressed and so was I.
Took my mother out for dinner and opera
We’ve dined at the Rooftop Terrace three times now and continue to be disappointed. This last occasion was the worst. Terrible service, luke-warm mediocre food, and overpriced everything... save yourself some aggravation and dine elsewhere! We keep trying it because you’re already in the Kennedy Center and can simply walk down to the theater... but from now on I think we’ll be parking our car, taking an Uber to a decent meal, and Ubering back! We’ll probably have a better meal and end up spending less, even with the Uber included!
My husband and I have eaten at the Roof Terrace twice now prior to seeing shows, and had a fine meal both times. The food and wines were excellent. My husband was very pleased with both the octopus starter and the scallop dish he had at our recent visit; I had thick creamy sweet potato bisque soup and a delicious medium rare duck. Try the dark chocolate mint meringue ice cream! We appreciate that the portions were reasonable, since we certainly cannot carry leftover bags into the Opera House (!). Unfortunately the espresso machine was being replaced the night we visited, but it should be in service next time. Our servers were fine both times. I like the quiet ambiance of the dining room. The restaurant is quite pricey, but worth it for an occasional treat. We will be back!
Overpriced, espresso machine amazingly out of service, cocktails watered down, food with poorly prepared. Clearly just taking advantage of having a captive audience, no pun intended. Beautiful view, great ambiance, and polite staff, though.
We really enjoyed the brunch and will attend again.
Everything was good except that a couple of our dishes were not served warm enough. Seemed like they sat on the counter until other dishes were getting ready.
The food was delicious, but service was slow. A friend in our party arrived earlier than the rest and ordered for the table at 5:50pm. At 6:30 we still weren’t served our food. When the food arrived we were rushed, and one of the entrees was incorrect. Our server didn’t offer to rectify the situation at first, and unfortunately we didn’t have time for the kitchen to prepare a different dish, as our show was starting at 7pm. We were compensated for the incorrect entree, but only after we asked.
This was our fourth time at the Roof Terrace Restaurant. We thoroughly enjoy our evenings spent at the Roof Terrace prior to our events at The Kennedy Center. The food and drinks are delicious, the atmosphere unique (on the top floor of the Kennedy Center with a spectacular view) and the service is impeccable. We specifically request Konstantinos Tsampas to be our waiter! He is friendly and makes you feel like you are the only couple in the room! He is extremely attentive and his recommendations for food and drink are spot on. We have moved to Florida and can honestly say we will miss this restaurant immensely, but most of all we will miss our evenings with Mr. Tsampas. And we recommend to our friends that we will be dining there that they request him as well.
Pre theater only. Even not being a busy evening service could have been better. Very high priced for what it offers.
I misunderstood Mac in the menu. I thought burger when it meant macaroni. Otherwise it was quite a good experience.
Restaurant has a marvellous location at the top of the Kennedy Center. The food was delicious and the service excellent. It was a great start to our evening at the opera
Excellent food! I’d not been for years and the food is now truly five star!
Ana ing atmosphere!
It was a very poor experience compared to previous dining here. First, they took our order but was delivered to the table next to us. Instead of providing us with fresh meals, we were given the plates from in front of the other guests. I requested no crab in the Mac and cheese which the waiter agreed to, but then delivered a crab-laced Mac and cheese which he didn’t admit had shellfish until questioned. Had I had a serious allergy and consumed this, the consequences would have been devastating. Very laxed apology. When paying the bill we inquired about the lack of compliance with that work because nothing (including the incorrect Mac and cheese order) was removed from the bill!! We even had difficulty paying due to the waiting charging us twice for the original bill then another bill once we challenged the lack of compensation for the poor service, resulting in our card eventually denying payment due to so may charges from the same restaurant. We will seriously consider dining elsewhere from now on before visiting the Kennedy center which is a shame because this used to be a high-class dining experience.
Overall, beautiful environment. Wine was good, though limited wine list. Cheese board appetizer was just OK. Accompaniments for cheese were very unimaginative. (A few pieces of dried fruit and nuts with toast). No gluten free bread available. Duck entree was slightly dry, but otherwise excellent with exceptional sides. Dessert was tasty, different sorbets, but no other GF options. Overall the views and the environment were the best parts, though service was very good also.
the Atmosphere was OK and the food came out very fast. this was helpful because we were a little pressed for time before our concert. For business reasons, I needed separate checks between me and my guest. The bills, although separate, did not came the way I specifically asked for. So if separate checks are needed, be sure to provide exact instructions to your server. they are busy with everyone asking for an expedited check in order to go to their particular shows in the building, so it can get hectic for the server.
