Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar
It feels more like a food hall than a restaurant. We had the charcuterie and cheese boards and they were terrible. Low quality ingredients.
Food was lukewarm not a great experience
I am glad to see that the restaurant is open again. However, the food was just average. The sweet potato soup was good, but the bass was not firm. It was very soft and mushy.
It was the best night in a long time for me and my girlfriend. The food was awesome and wine was excellent. My girlfriend was very impressed and so was I.
We’ve dined at the Rooftop Terrace three times now and continue to be disappointed. This last occasion was the worst. Terrible service, luke-warm mediocre food, and overpriced everything... save yourself some aggravation and dine elsewhere! We keep trying it because you’re already in the Kennedy Center and can simply walk down to the theater... but from now on I think we’ll be parking our car, taking an Uber to a decent meal, and Ubering back! We’ll probably have a better meal and end up spending less, even with the Uber included!
My husband and I have eaten at the Roof Terrace twice now prior to seeing shows, and had a fine meal both times. The food and wines were excellent. My husband was very pleased with both the octopus starter and the scallop dish he had at our recent visit; I had thick creamy sweet potato bisque soup and a delicious medium rare duck. Try the dark chocolate mint meringue ice cream! We appreciate that the portions were reasonable, since we certainly cannot carry leftover bags into the Opera House (!). Unfortunately the espresso machine was being replaced the night we visited, but it should be in service next time. Our servers were fine both times. I like the quiet ambiance of the dining room. The restaurant is quite pricey, but worth it for an occasional treat. We will be back!
Overpriced, espresso machine amazingly out of service, cocktails watered down, food with poorly prepared. Clearly just taking advantage of having a captive audience, no pun intended. Beautiful view, great ambiance, and polite staff, though.
We really enjoyed the brunch and will attend again.
Everything was good except that a couple of our dishes were not served warm enough. Seemed like they sat on the counter until other dishes were getting ready.
The food was delicious, but service was slow. A friend in our party arrived earlier than the rest and ordered for the table at 5:50pm. At 6:30 we still weren’t served our food. When the food arrived we were rushed, and one of the entrees was incorrect. Our server didn’t offer to rectify the situation at first, and unfortunately we didn’t have time for the kitchen to prepare a different dish, as our show was starting at 7pm. We were compensated for the incorrect entree, but only after we asked.
Pre theater only. Even not being a busy evening service could have been better. Very high priced for what it offers.
I misunderstood Mac in the menu. I thought burger when it meant macaroni. Otherwise it was quite a good experience.
Restaurant has a marvellous location at the top of the Kennedy Center. The food was delicious and the service excellent. It was a great start to our evening at the opera
Excellent food! I’d not been for years and the food is now truly five star!
Ana ing atmosphere!
It was a very poor experience compared to previous dining here. First, they took our order but was delivered to the table next to us. Instead of providing us with fresh meals, we were given the plates from in front of the other guests. I requested no crab in the Mac and cheese which the waiter agreed to, but then delivered a crab-laced Mac and cheese which he didn’t admit had shellfish until questioned. Had I had a serious allergy and consumed this, the consequences would have been devastating. Very laxed apology. When paying the bill we inquired about the lack of compliance with that work because nothing (including the incorrect Mac and cheese order) was removed from the bill!! We even had difficulty paying due to the waiting charging us twice for the original bill then another bill once we challenged the lack of compensation for the poor service, resulting in our card eventually denying payment due to so may charges from the same restaurant. We will seriously consider dining elsewhere from now on before visiting the Kennedy center which is a shame because this used to be a high-class dining experience.
Overall, beautiful environment. Wine was good, though limited wine list. Cheese board appetizer was just OK. Accompaniments for cheese were very unimaginative. (A few pieces of dried fruit and nuts with toast). No gluten free bread available. Duck entree was slightly dry, but otherwise excellent with exceptional sides. Dessert was tasty, different sorbets, but no other GF options. Overall the views and the environment were the best parts, though service was very good also.
the Atmosphere was OK and the food came out very fast. this was helpful because we were a little pressed for time before our concert. For business reasons, I needed separate checks between me and my guest. The bills, although separate, did not came the way I specifically asked for. So if separate checks are needed, be sure to provide exact instructions to your server. they are busy with everyone asking for an expedited check in order to go to their particular shows in the building, so it can get hectic for the server.
This food is better than it has to be given the captive audience. The setting is lovely, especially as the sun begins to go down, sending a golden overwash across the entire room. If this restaurant weren't at the top of the Kennedy Center, would we go? Not likely--but it IS, and so a pre-theatre visit here is a classy, elegant way to begin your visit to the KC. I appreciate the professional service and a menu that works to be interesting and relevant. I often find myself wishing the restuarant were open after the shows are over...what could be more magical than topping the night off with dessert and a drink?
I was extremely pleased by my dining experience before attending a concert at the Kennedy Center. I typically dine in Georgetown or the West End before theater events at the Kennedy Center. However, this time I decided to try the rooftop terrace restaurant and was very pleased that I did. The view was excellent, the service outstanding, and the food was absolutely terrific. The main course salmon was prepared to perfection and the duck was served and plated beautifully. I would recommend the rooftop terrace restaurant two others attending a Kennedy Center event.
The food was mediocre, but the view is fabulous.
I just love it!!!! Long live the Kennedy Center and its marvels, including the beautiful restaurant!
The atmosphere of the restaurant needs to change as it feels like a large hotel dining room with no ambience. Food is very good but needs to be more reasonably priced and menu has changed but needs revamping.
We received excellent service at the Roof Terrace Restaurant and the food was prepared and presented to the highest standards. We have eaten at the restaurant before and have been impressed. We were not disappointed this time either. We chose this restaurant because we had concert tickets that evening and finished our meal in plenty of time without in any way being rushed. We'll dine there again.
Dining with my daughter prior to seeing David Sedaris... a perfect meal for a perfect evening.
Perfect option for a bite to eat before a performance. Delicious food, excellent service. Beautiful views as well.
Excellent service, we had a 6:00 reservation and were seated right away. Had plenty of time to enjoy our meal and make it to the 8:00 show.
We love the Kennedy Center Brunch! My husband especially enjoys his delicious omelettes, and my favorites are all the salads and seafood. My only request would be to please bring back the seaweed salad which was there for many years but has not been available recently. The service is excellent.
Food was delicious and you can’t beat the location.
Perfect place to grab dinner before a performance. We were delayed by a motorcade, but the staff is used to this and held our table/accommodated everyone affected.
I wouldn't suggest going here before a show. The staff can not be trusted to get your food out in a timely manner to make your show. I dinned here with my boyfriend for his birthday before we had tickets to the ballet. Our reservation was 1:45 mins before the show, which should have been plenty of time for them to get our food out since the theater was just down the stairs. We ordered within 15 mins of sitting and our food came out at 7:15pm!!! We waited for an 1:10 mins to get our dinner- insane! We had 5 mins to eat our food before literally running out the door. I had asked them to do something special for my boyfriend's birthday when first making the reservation. The waiter dropped off the dessert (after we had already paid) while we were literally standing up from our chairs to leave. We both took a forkful while standing and ran out the door. The food we did get to eat was good, but it really set the night off on a bad note. I feel there's no excuse for the restaurant who is located in a theater and is only open specifically for the theater crowd to provide this terrible service. I hope I can help anyone reading this review from not going to the restaurant and having the pre-show experience we had.
We enjoyed our dinner which was quite good. One exception was the octopus appetizer which was cold, too spicy and rather tough. Also, didn't enjoy the accompanying seaweed. The server volunteered to credit us for the octopus, which we appreciated. We very much enjoyed the wine, main course, dessert and coffee. We'll be back for sure.
The continuing problem with RTR is the limited menu options and prices. Please offer 2 entrees that are reasonably priced, like a dinner salad and a burger. The entrees are complicated, pre-cooked and expensive given their quality. The dessert was the best part of the meal.
Not enough seasoning or sauce on Duck and lamb.
Always delightful! Excellent food, nice way to relax before a performance at Kennedy Center.
We had an amazing evening. Wonderful service. We couldn’t have found a better location for a special dinner before a show.
Food was decent-waiter good..
But the ambiance is what makes it !
(Kinda overpriced for smaller plates/entrees)
But I’ll go back for the view & convenience)
We had a very pleasant evening at the Roof Terrace Restaurant. The food was very good, the service attentive and the atmosphere very attractive. We're going again in the future.
We were attending the ballet at the Opera House at Kennedy Center so we thought this would complete the experience Big mistake, bland food, spotty service and weird room which was devoid of any decor or warmth.
Wonderful champagne brunch.
Food was delicious and presented with flair.
I do wish my waiter was interested in refilling the drinks without being asked but the Chefs certainly are doing their part!
