Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar
Disappointing, food was less then mediocre. Much more options around the Kennedy Center at the same price, with better food.
Convenient for shows, otherwise cannot recommend
The food and service was excellent. I was expecting a roof top view and that is not the case. The cost was more that I expected but the convenience was worth the expense.
The duck entre was undercooked and sent back to the kitchen. The salmon was perfectly cooked.
Food is quite good, if pricey. View and convenience to the theaters is what really makes it worthwhile. Service, though, continues to be a weak spot, at least during the three times I've dined there over the last six or seven years. This time I asked for a manhattan strained in a martini glass as it's supposed to be served. I got it in a tumbler full of ice. I asked for it to be strained into a martini glass, and the waiter brought out the martini glass and then poured the works - ice and all - from the tumbler into it. By that time I just told him to forget it.
Also had to wait 10 minutes before I could get the waiter's attention to order my meal.
The tenderloin was delicious and the drink ultimately was fine. I just wish Roof Terrace would bring their service standards up to what one would expect from a restaurant at this price point, and not "justify" it by the captive theater audience.
oof Terrace is a wonderful place to go before a show..... the food is great and the service is wonderful..... I had the Salmon and it was cooked to perfection! Love the Roof Terrace and the Kennedy Center!!!
Service was excellent and the food was very good.
Service was slower than usual. Always good before a show.
Sat at the bar while waiting for my friend to arrive. Very quiet but very nice. Excellent service.
At the restaurant (which was maybe half full), I ordered the filet which was DELICIOUS!! Fantastic meal, very nice waiter, quick service and pretty good wine.
Reservation process was easy, hostesses were friendly and prompt in seating us. Two issues I have that would keep me from returning are the food options are all too complicated (intentional attempt to provide complicated entrees), my elderly aunt couldnt find much she found appetizing, and the prices were more than double what they shold have been. Much too expensive for the value.
Food is always excellent. Best place to eat prior to a show at Kennedy Center.
If you are attending a show at the Kennedy Center this is an okay option. It's quiet. Service is prompt. Food is standard; nothing outstanding. The wine selection is quite nice.
Great place to have a nice dinner before a show
I love the buffet option at brunch. There is a lovely array of choices. My favorites are the crab legs and seasoned shrimp. Also delicious are the vegetables and desserts. Champagne is jncluded at bunch.
Excellent Sunday brunch!
Our dinner was good but overpriced.
Good night out at the Kennedy Center. This place is consistently good and we enjoyed our dinner. Service and staff were wonderful. The show after even better. Great night out. Thanks KC.
The name Roof Terrace certainly led me to believe the environment of this restaurant was small, intimate, and potentially have an outdoor seating area. It's a very large, very high ceiling banquet type room with many tables. We had show tickets for 6pm, the restaurant opened at 5, and we were concerned we wouldn't make the show on time, but we ordered a couple appetizers and all was well. The food was good, but the space was rather empty due to being so early and so large. So it was sort of an odd dining experience. Didn't really set the mood I had hoped. Good for a quick bite before an early show tho, so I would recommend it!
While obviously convenient for attending a show at the Kennedy Center, it is a great restaurant on it's own. Always a great meal.
Ate in the little room across from the bar - nice quiet atmosphere. Waitress was outstanding, helpful, knowledgeable about the menu. She’s a gem!
I came to the Roof Terrace Restaurant for my prom dinner with my date, it was so romantic and the view was beautiful! I would definitely recommend. The food was delicious!
Great place for dinner before a show. We had our 8 year old daughter with us and the waiter was excellent with her and made her feel very special. The food was just ok and for the price it was a little disappointing but our waiter definitely made our meal.
Overpriced but did pre-performance dinner, can’t beat the location
It was my aunts birthday and she said it was amazing!
Phenomenal service by Oscar made our dinner 5 star awesome! Terrific food and amazing wine. Expensive, but worth it!!
The terrace affords lovely views, but you can see those without eating at the restaurant. The menu looks sophisticated on paper, but the preparation is far from it. The food is mediocre at best, and for the price is quite disappointing. If you take the KC's terrace out of the equation, the ambience is akin to a hotel ballroom that's been converted into a dining room. The staff are pleasant and efficient, making the total experience generally pleasant. If I had it to do again, I'd say avoid the restaurant and grab an overpriced glass of wine and a snack from the snack bar on the same terrace level.
Just lovely. Relaxing and food was excellent as was the service.
I took a teen aged visitor from Germany here before seeing Shear Madness. She said it was the best meal she has ever had! She loved the view. Pretty high praise.
Solid job on accommodating a group of 7. Was seated promptly and they had no problem when the rest of the party arrived 30 minutes late.
Food was interesting - good use of vegetables to complement the meats.
Very large open room - nice view. Seating was far enough apart that conversation was not strained despite a busy night.
Prices are high ~$32 for entree, $12 - $20 for vegetables - all a la carte. But worth it.
I had the duck, which was excellent. Love the views of the Potomac.
Waiter was a little disorganized but still did a decent job getting us out in time for the ballet.
Outstanding service service. Food was excellent.
Pre-theater dining. Overall experience was very good but $14 for a bowl of gumbo is pricey. In general, food was very good, and we had a very pleasant dining experience.
The wait staff where very friendly and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the view and the ambiance that the venue provided. I would say the food was mediocre at best. Only thing that was a ambiance killer was the staff talking so loudly on the other side of the restaurant that it was a distraction.
Very enjoyable. Food and service excellent. Server very polite, knowledgeable and prompt.
Made reservation a month in advance and even received a reminder/confirmation the day before. When I arrived, it was closed. Called left a message and never received a response.
Great location for theatre goers, but food was pricey and mediocre.
It can be a fun experience, especially when your table neighbors are highly animated and chatty. Crab bisque quite good - but you have like okra and grits (hard to explain, but good). The Jerusalem hearts with slivered asparagus on tabbouleh (buckwheat, I believe). No desert - had a show. The wait staff were efficient and responsive - and quite pleasant.
We had a very enjoyable pre-opera dinner. The convenience for a KC event is super of course. I enjoyed the new vegetarian and gluten free entree. Another such option on the same menu would make it possible for me to visit more often.
Got us to the preshow discussion on time
