Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar
Our food was served late and cold; we were seated next to a noisy wait station/ kitchen. Just overall pretty dusappointing.
Nice dining room, we opted for the truffle fries for a starter, and they were amazing! Our scallops and mushroom risotto were good, although the risotto could've been a little hotter. We were both celebrating birthdays and they brought out two comp deserts. Drinks were good portions, too.
The food was very good and used a lot of summer veggies, which was a nice surprise.
Filet Mignon, Lobster Appi., Gem Salad, Fennel Soup - Excellent!
The Roof Terrace Restaurant is convenient when attending a show at the Kennedy Center. The food was adequate. I felt as if I was at a mid-level country club.
Went to Alladin! We had a horrible rainstorm, and the traffic was very bad even though we started out earlier than usual, we were really late. They didn’t even blink, and the meal came quickly because of very good service. Very happy with the restaurant and menu, and the service is impeccable.
We will be back often as I bought a subscription to the Kennedy Center. Great place.
This experience was a never again! There are very limited dining options pre-show near the Kennedy Center and literally none, post-show. I decided to give the Roof Terrace a try since I will be a frequent visitor at the Kennedy Center over the next few months. The tables are two small to have your place settings and shared appetizer on the table at the same time. The food is not flavorful and the selection is quite limited. If you are going to have a limited menu it needs to be well prepared and seasoned. The prices were far to high for the quality of the food. It appear as though they needed more waitstaff or maybe reduce the number of seats if the kitchen can't keep up. 90 minutes was barely enough time to have dinner and make it downstairs to the Opera Hall for our show.
The service, as always, was excellent! The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Very creative cuisine. It is always a lovely way to spend a couple hours before the theater. Expensive, but worth it!
Everything was great. My husband and I both work till 6 p.m. on Sunday, so to find something to accommodate our schedules was fantastic. We were able to enjoy a nice drink upon arriving and then dinner. Our server was very pleasant and timed everything perfectly for our 7:30 performance.
It was our anniversary and I wanted to treat my husband to a special evening. Everything was perfect.
Thank you, Kimberly in Falls Church, VA
Had Sunday brunch at the restaurant. They were easily able to accommodate our group. Wait service was attentive and professional. Food selections were numerous and all good. Would recommend.
Wonderful food and ambiance! The Sunday brunch is awesome!
Good food, good location good time. There was noting negative about the experience. It was what I have come to expect from brunch at Roof Terrace Restaurant
We really enjoyed our dinner the only thing I would hAve changed was our table location. We have season tickets so we plan to eat there again
Great meal before a show. Great Service.
I was partly disappointed because we were celebrating a Birthday and I asked to be by the window! We were sat at a table that was the furthest table away from the window instead! The hostess said there were no 4 tops available closer to the window, but I saw many 4 tops that would have been closer, so that was very disappointing! The food and service was good, but the ambience felt a little dated and could use some minor freshening up. It was wonderful to have a restaurant in the Kennedy Center before seeing a show, but sadly I think we will go somewhere else before our next show.
I would recommend it for the convenience.
It is too pricey for what you get. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere is lovely.
Esplendid view. Good food and attendance. The perfectplace previous theater
Meal was excellent; waiter was friendly and professional
I am a 30 year resident of WDC and all I can say is WOW! Very pleased and surprised by the gourmet high end dining here. The food was FABULOUS! Service terrific and ambiance - well what can you say with beautiful views of our nations capitol! Kudos to the chef for this hidden gem!
Oscar was our waiter and he was wonderful! Sincerely hope we get one of his tables again.
Sincerely, John Paron, PhD
Excellent staff, good food, and conveniently located.
Great Food!! Great service! Always a pleasure for any occasion.
We went as a family prior to the Aladdin show. Waiter was awful. He took one drink order and disappeared, leaving three adults without ordering drinks. When I ordered my steak well done, he said “well done will come out dry why not medium rare?”. I’m 38 years old, I know how I like my steak. If I am paying $30 for steak, it better not be dry or burnt. When my daughter wanted the sultan drink with no sprite, the waiter also had an issue with that. When the food came, my husband got fries (which he did not ask for) instead of asparagus. When this was remedied, his medium rare steak was burnt beyond well done. By the time his new steak came properly made, we were all done with our food. For the price we paid, this was a terrible experience and I will not go again. Save your money and go somewhere else!
Roof Terrace Restaurant offers a terrific brunch; we like the venue with its panoramic views of the Potomac River, the variety and quality of the food offerred in the Sunday buffet, and the quality of the service
Luckily the experience here extends beyond mediocre service and room temperature food. The destination setting with its views made up for a less-than-thrilling evening.
Maybe it was an off night for the staff?
We'll go back again, but with lower expectations.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at your restaurant before we went to see Disney's Aladdin. It was our first time at The Kennedy Center and we were impressed by all the friendly and helpful staff, especially when we were a bit lost trying to find your restaurant. A staff member kindly directed us to the Terrace and made recommendations on what dishes were tasty. The food was great and the customer service of all your staff were excellent. They surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate our love.
Thank you again for the wonderful experience. We hope to catch another show and dinner at The Kennedy Center.
Fabulous seasonal menu with fried lobster tails and Brussels sprouts with lump crabmeat -- great views and pre-theatre dining!
We had a large party and the staff was fantastic! Very accommodating and attentive. They helped with prior communications to locate us together. Staff broke up the table bill to ease payments. Thank you! Our meals were fine but I still wish there were more choices. With the following Comedy Central show, we had a wonderful experience at the Kennedy Center!
Delicious food, great service, lovely ambiance! Can't wait to go back!
I am sorry to say that I was quite disappointed. The waitstaff was not well trained (e.g. picked up plates before everyone at the table was finished) and all seemed overly hurried and rarely smiled. Our particular waiter seemed much better than others we watched around us and he warmed up when we engaged him in conversation. I ordered the scallops and they were only lukewarm. The surprise birthday dessert I was given was lacking in taste and I have no idea what it was. The rolls would have been fine if they had been warm but they were cold. I was told there would be an excellent view but there was no view at all except for the balcony and sky until we walked outside. We thought the meal and drinks were excessively expensive for the atmosphere, service, and quality.
Mary at the bar! Wonderful! Theodore as server too. And Alisosa great too. Thank you
Fabulous brunch experience. Great menu variety. Really enjoyed having to access the ’food stations’ from the kitchen interior. Flavors were spectacular. Will definitely do Sunday Brunch here again - sooner rather than later.
Beautiful and unique.
It’s a decent restaurant. The food is pricey, but not really anything to speak of. I wish there was better dessert and coffee selection. The location is great if you are attending an event at the Kennedy Center. The view of DC is wonderful from its location. What bothered me most is the way our left over food were handled. We requested to take home our leftovers and the person that took our plates stacked the rest of the other plates on our left over food/plate. We reiterated that we want to take the leftovers home, but the staff treated our food like it was to be trashed instead of take home. He was probably trying to be more efficient in clearing our table, but it was really not right to stack other plates on our leftovers :-(
The service is excellent at the Rooftop Terrace and the convenience to events at the KC perfect. I wish the menu was a bit more varied in terms of cost and choices. We often take our grandchildren who are pre-teens and teens and the menu is limited and pricey for a family. It would be great to have a few more items that were more family friendly.
Had a nice dinner before the show at Kennedy Center
I know I am a broken record on this topic, but the Roof Terrace Restaurant has made great strides over the last several years. I dine there at least six times annually because of KC subscriptions. Service has always been excellent from the well-trained staff who need to get patrons to their performances and food had improved considerably in the last few years.
The only negative is the pricing of wines, which is outrageous. I believe the cheapest wine by the glass is $15, most are $17 up and bottles under $80 are hard to find. A lot of $80 bottles at the Terrace Restaurant are $18 max retail. I understand that the restaurant needs to cover its expenses, but the wine pricing has gone too far. Other diners tell me the wine list prices have turned them into tea-totalers or persuaded them to have a cocktail instead, which is a great pity. They might sell more wine if it were priced better.
A wonderful place to have dinner before a performance. The terrace is a must see, and the views from the restaurant are great. Food was very, very good -- standard, but good. I had the beef tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection. All in all, a good place to go - it IS pricey, but worth it for the convenience and view.
