Horrible…700 bucks and they practically kicked us out with our deserts in Togo cups and no spoons to eat it with. The service is getting worst Everytime we attend this place. Reservation at 730….cook took 30 min to come and than took over a hour to cook…apparently they close at 8-9 so they started rushing us. Y’all gotta do better don’t set appointment at 730 if y’all close at 8-9

The prices are way too high. The cooking wasn’t very interactive. The building is tired—e.g. no water in the little ponds. Would never come back sadly. I remember it in the 90s being exceptional.

I’ve been a regular at this ROJ for years but the last 2 times I visited the quality of the chef and the overall service have been a big disappointment.

The chef told us the training program is usually 2-3 weeks but he only got 3 days of training, it showed in the quality of the food, and he got the order wrong 3 different times even though he confirmed before cooking the food each time.. He also told us he had heard another restraint with similar food was better than ROJ.

Our server was polite and helpful but the food is really greasy and bad. Very bad food overall. The situation is dated and feels like it’s best years are long gone. Sort of depressing truthfully.

Restaurant was dirty, especially bathroom. We never received our rice. Never offered refills. No complimentary birthday desert, paid $5 for ice cream. It’s now 2:30am and 3 out of 7 people are sick.

This was our family’s first dining out experience since 2020 and it was a HUGE disappointment. The beef fried rice was truly awful, fatty ground beef and rice tasted like hamburger helper. No tricks other than a fire, our drinks were refilled once and they rushed us out— even taking food plates away as our kids were still eating! They quickly gave our kids ice cream in a hot mug and ushered us out the door in under an hour. It was almost $300 post-tip for our meal here with no alcohol. We know these places are expensive but for such a bad overall experience we were truly saddened.

This is my first time and definitely last time here. We waited for almost 1.5 hours at the table for a cooker to show up at our table. The food tastes so-so. Even ice cream tastes bad. The meat is over cooked. The Japanese decoration is nice but the menu, table, floor, and restroom are all dirty. Benihana becomes heaven, compared to Ron. Go elsewhere for Hibachi!

Dinner was off to rocky start when waitress came to table abruptly asking what we wanted to drink. Which is fine had we had menus available to us to review in advance. Did not ask if it was our first time dining at restaurant. We were there for hibachi and it was our first time so interpreting the menu was a bit difficult. From a food perspective, the hibachi experience was very tame. Not sure if it’s because of COVID, or if it is a Ron of Japan policy - but our table chef was very subdued. There was very little interaction between chef and guests. No flaming onion, no engagement. Again, if this is their policy - I completely get it - but from all the past hibachi places I’ve visited the experience was opposite - lots of flaming onions, flipping food at guests, engagement, utensil tapping, etc. Overall this was a very disappointing experience at Ron of Japan. We were expecting a level of polish from the staff and did not receive it.

Kid-friendly, yet sophisticated environment. We went for my husband’s birthday and had a very nice time. You might share a table with another party, just fyi for those who may be nervous about Covid. All staff followed cdc guidelines.

Food was plentiful, a bit too oily for my taste but flavorful. Portion size was large and I took half home. I opted for the vegetable fried rice. The shrimp were delicious but quite small and butterflied so you’re not getting the equivalent of what would be the true number of shrimp. We were spaced well at a teppan table with adequate space between us and two other couples.

As with other restaurants, ROJ suffered from limited staff, limited supply (napkins) and longer than normal service time. I think the opportunity to bring it back to its normal standards is additional training for staff to ensure the experience and food quality lives up to expectations.

Was a special occasion, friends came in from out of town off of a plane ride and were extremely hungry. We made a reservation, arrived 5 minutes early. We waited AN HOUR for our cook to even come to the table. And when he did, he didn’t talk to us or make conversation, didn’t even introduce himself. Unlike at other hibachi restaurants where the whole experience is having a fun interaction with the chef. Food was not good, chef didn’t ask us how we wanted it cooked so it was over cooked. And after all of this, they didn’t even apologize for our bad experience.

It has been years since I've visited "Ron of Japan" and it has changed a bit. Not a bad thing, just different. The wait staff no longer wears the Asian inspired tunics I recall, but rather red T-shirts with the restaurant's logo. The cook at our table (Kevin) did a wonderful job. The issue I have, is with the "technique" trained and applied, by the cook. I chose the "Shogun", seven course meal, a choice I highly recommend to anyone who visits the restaurant. When the lobster portion was prepared, with the customary egg sauce (which has to be experienced, it's awesome!) The steaming process seemed to me to contain more oil then on our previous visit and when served, the lobster seemed oilier, which collected in the bottom of the dish. The other guests made other choices, yet when the meat portions were prepared, all the meats were cut into the same sized cubes and mixed completely when being cooked. Also, unfortunately, there were several different cuts of meats being prepared and were to be cooked to different temperatures (medium rare, or medium or well done) and yet all the cuts were mixed and cooked simultaneously and to the same temperature. Before the meat portion of the meal was served, I brought my concerns to the attention of the cook. Keven, listened respectfully, understood my objection and offered to re-cook a new piece of meat at no charge. THAT, in a nut shell, is why I will return again. The restaurant truely works to satisfy ther customers and ensure each customer has an excellant and delicious meal, prepared in a unique way with flare and treat their customers with courtesy and respect. Truely a rare treat in these times. "Ron of Japan" is truely a north shore original.

Japan is known for their zen gardens. We found the garden delipated and neglected. Food too much butter on lobster felt it needed some garlic to give it a taste. Butter over powered the lobster taste.
