It started off rough but ended well. I have been eating here for over 15 years and the cook we have was the best I have ever had. His timing was impeccable!
Food was undercooked and felt very rushed. It was evident they wanted us out. Not what it used to be.
Very understaffed, never served dessert, employees all seemed overwhelmed.
Overall everything was great as always. One of our favorite places to go.
Not sure I’d recommend Ron’s anymore. To give you some idea, we have been going to Ron’s since 1978 starting with the one in Chicago. Years later we discovered the Northbrook one which was easier/less hassle to get to. THe food is generally delicious but the service has been lacking. This last visit the man serving our table prepared 2 of our appetizers and then prepared the 3rd persons appetizer. The griddle is huge, and if he couldn’t prepare all 3 of ours at once, he could’ve divided up the portion 3 ways since it was all the same food, and then continued with the rest dividing the same way. He did the same thing for our dinner! IT was beyond weird/strange and not appropriate. Also, the salad dressing which is delicious comes with extremely watery lettuce which in turn waters down the dressing to the point where it’s not tasty as it should be. This has happened many times at Ron’s and it’s always bewildering since surely they could spin the lettuce and get most if not all the water off. The shrimp was still delicious just served to us inappropriately.
José and Sarah are wonderful!
Ron's Chicago, and Northbrook have been a favorite treat at least once a year, since 1980. Fantastic. Only one comment: The wonderful chef cooked everything exceptional, except the filet, with my guests meal. She repeatedly asked, and then I reminded him, that we wanted the meat cooked on the rare side of medium. He just didn't seem to listen, and OVER COOKED the filet. First time that has ever happened. I will return. Thank you!
Fantastic food and great ambiance, we always have a great time when we dine at Ron of Japan.
Recommend that you supply cocktail forks to extract the king crab out of the shell. I had to use my fingers and disliked it!
As good as it gets! Five stars out of five!! @@@@@
The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive. The restaurant was very interestng to look at. The food was ok. The food was just basic Chinese food. A bit pricey for something so ordinary.
We have dined at many, many Japanese steakhouses. My kids love these places. This is the worst one we at which we have ever been. The food quality is below average. The preparation is also sub-par. For example, the "beef fried rice" consists of rice fried with raw ground beef, meaning the fat from the ground beef becomes part of the rice. It's disgusting. They do not use the sauces that most teppanyaki table restaurants use (meaning a sweet and/or spicy mustard and soy sauce with ginger). They appear to use only a store brand teriyaki, which is itself below average. Nothing about this was typical of this genre of restaurant, nor was it good. Add to that the significantly overpriced menu, and you get one of the worst value restaurants I have ever experienced. We will not return, nor will we send friends (or enemies).
We have been customers for about 35 years and we love it every time.
Good place and great staff. Beef fried rice with egg sauce is outstanding. Their table grill being very small does not allow the cook to cook multiple items simultaneously. You have to wait long time for other parts of your order to be cooked, meaning you will get chicken first, then 15 minutes later shrimp, then 20 minutes later rice and so on.
We’ve been going to Ron of Japan for many, many years and we absolutely love it. Yoshi is the best chef by far. He knows how to ‘cook’. Makes the best shrimp ever. The bartenders poor great drinks too! We always look forward to going there.
The food is still good but the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller.
It was gas
It was amazing!!
Chef was awesome. Other service was a little slow. Restaurant seemed a little dirty.
Always great food!!! Service was very good!
We have been going there for years and will continue to do so. One if our favorite restaurants.
Great as usual.
Great Ambience, Service and food to sum it up. Amazing efficiency wonderful company which is bonus.
Food wasn’t great, service wasn’t great and overall, does not worth the money. I guess it was our first and last visit.
Horribly over-cooked chicken. A chef who kept apologizing. Cramped tables.
Terrible meal . I have been coming here for many years and this was horrible. Food came out of sequence w rice at the end. No show ,
Always great food. Service could have been more attentive.
Everything was great except the chef seemed a bit grumpy but he cooked everything fantastically
There was some miscommunication between us, the waitress and the chef.
Besides the beautiful ambiance, there is very little rational for spending $178.00 on dinner for four, before tip. The cook didn't perform *any* tricks for my two young kids and the food is very basic, uninteresting. Then you get the Bill and you can't believe what just happened. I highly recommend going to a regular steakhouse or sushi restaurant over these places. Heavily salted, uninteresting food, high prices.
Hibachi table didn’t work and we had to move to another table
Chef had bad attitude and cooked everything raw
Ron’ s has changed over the years. Quality of meat very poor, cut backs on food and deserts, which where always included. Bus boy was disgusting, wiped table and spread food all over customers. Upon requesting doggie bag containers, he kept wiping his nose while handling food. I been going for over 30 years and will never return
Did not enjoy the food. Definitely not what I expected it to be. Even the service was not all that.
EgG SaUcE!! Thanks for the comp 👍😁 And more eGg SaUcE❤️🔥
Yes, we enjoy the restaurant and have been coming to this location for years. They were very accommodating towards our group and the staff was courteous and professional. We also felt as though the service was attentive without going overboard. The chef of course showed off the fire lighting trick to the gleeful pleasure of my 8 year-old. Would come back.
Whenever all my kids come to town, Ron of Japan dining is a must! Never disappoints!
Great for special occasions.
I hadn't been to Ron of Japan in years and now I know why. The cook had no personality, the cooking area was filthy, and the prices were so much higher than there competitors. This was a huge disappointment. I am glad it was just my husband and me dining there and not my entire family. I can't believe they are still in business after what I experienced.
