Romano's Macaroni Grill - Birmingham

Our 7pm reservation turned into 7:30 despite 2/3's of the tables being available. The food was good but they were severely understaffed. Our poor waiter was completely overwhelmed. Dinner took 2.5 hours.
It’s was ok food was good but the service not so much
This place needs a serious corporate management intervention. We arrived to a vacant hostess stand, and nearly a vacant restaurant (no surprise) after all surrounding restaurants had long lines to get in. After a couple minutes she took us to our table. Nearly 10 minutes later, we hadn’t seen a server so I flagged down the hostess who then approached one of the servers across the room. After a short discussion, they parted ways and no one came to our table. I told my wife that I couldn’t live with myself if we sat through this and spent money here, so we got up and left. Ridiculously poor service and the restaurant itself was filthy, including the restrooms. Sit back, Birmingham, and watch this one either close down or change hands soon. Awful.
Waitress untrained. Ask about Happy Hour. Told specials, ordered, drinks delivered and found out you had to be at the bar. Limited beer selection and waitress didnt know what they had. Long periods of server disappearing. Food cold. Restaurant was not crowded.
The food was delicious but the waiter was terrible. We had stopped going to Macaroni Grill for a long time due to bad service but thought we would give it another try. Well no change! Disappointing.
The server was very nice but the food was disappointing. One person in our party ordered a steak well done and it was served rare (blood pooling on the plate). The manager replaced it and did not charge for the entree but it arrived after everyone else had finished and he ended up taking it to go. I ordered a grill pork chop, which was so poorly cut that it was triangular, sloping from the wide bone on one side to a point in the other, which cause it to be overdone on the thin side and undercooked near the bone. We’ll look elsewhere for our next get together.
Seemed short staffed, arrived 15 min early for our reservation and didn’t sit down until 20 minutes after our reservation time.
It was a delicious😋 and delightful experience!! Loved it 😊
Service , food and overall appearance of the staff was awful.
First of all I made reservations for my wife and distinctly said it was her birthday. I wanted to have some type of privacy to eat for her day and we got seated right in front of the kitchen area! Asked to be moved and they seemed like it was a problem and seated us by a fireplace. Shortly after that we had a family of 5 get seated right next to us. There was absolutely no one really in the restaurant! We ordered food to go and what we wanted we had the waitress bring us a menu to show her what it was because they cooked something similar to the same thing we wanted. I paid for the food, got our to go order and got home and we still received the opposite of what we ordered! I myself will not be going back no time soon because the experience sucked. Especially when that's where my wife wanted to go for her birthday!
Our waitress was very nice and gave us a world class experience and the food was great!
This place USE to be very good, Now it is poor at best... I should have know We were in trouble when it was dinner time on a Thursday night and the place was empty, Maybe 5 tables tops... There was no one to greet or seat us for almost 10 mins... Would have left then but wanted to be fair... The food was poor, the Chicken breast was tough, The pasta was drowned with the supposedly truffle cream sauce... Last but not least, the portions were skimpy .. The wait staff... lets say their appearance could use some work... It is such a shame since the Macaroni Grill use to be a great place to dine...
Although the restaurant was almost empty, the kitchen was incredibly slow. It appeared the staff were doing their best, despite the lack of presence of any management. This used to be one of our favorite places to go. Unfortunately, we won’t be back.
Restaurant was short-staffed, with manager and bartender out. Our group selected this restaurant specifically for a brunch gathering and we were told that both were discouraged because of missing staff. Restrooms were tired looking, with toilet paper in floor, broken stall locks and broken and worn soap dispensers.
the food was amazing, service was great! Love the bread
The survey to get the free appetizer is a minefield of different websites and I never could find how to take the survey after trying for about 20 minutes. I have tried to take the survey before and the same thing happens. They need to fix this. See if someone in their Corporate office can do the survey! Good luck.
We typically do not like a lot of chain restaurants. However, the Sole Parmesan at Macaroni Grill is something we have been ordering for years. We had not had it in a while and we were going to be at The Summit for a movie so we chose to eat there.
We’ve recently moved from Orlando. So we’ve never ordered the dish here in Bhm. Typically it is a pan seared very lightly breaded sole. However, it looked as if we were eating fried catfish. Although, the taste wasn’t horrible, It was heavily breaded and definitely fried....not what that dish should be! Such a disappointment after not having the dish in probably 2 years. In addition the orzo pasta on the side taste too thick, more like a casserole rather than your typical light orzo pasta.
Our server although she seemed new, was very attentive and did a good job of serving our table.
Front Door staff Awful. Almost left we were in the parking lot leaving, but went back to speak to manager and manager got us back in. Our server Ariel was wonderful compared to the door staff. Place was surprisingly empty for a Saturday and time of day. Also most of the staff as we were told were brand new or only been there a couple months, kitchen was on point, dining room was clean but staff looked extremely unorganized and unsure. No leadership on the floor, GM that came out from the back was in the kitchen, person out front was not guest focused at all, but again Ariel pulled us back from a way worse write up.
Terrible. Will not ever return.
The food was ok but the service was so bad I doubt I go back
In years past we have enjoyed Macaroni Grill as a quiet adult evening. However, the quality of food and service have both declined.
Disappointing experience. Restaurant must have new management, not what it used to be.
I have eaten at Macaroni Grill in other places. I have ordered the same dish. I have never received it where my extra shrimp were served slightly burned in a separate bowl and my pasta was dry and I had to ask for extra sauce. This took a long time so my food was cool. No, I did not complain. This was a special occasion for my husband and I so I smiled and let it go. My suggestion: ask for extra sauce just in case and skip asking for extra shrimp. Paying extra is expected but burned, is not.
Love it .Thanks Romanos....xoxoxoxo Great food , great service..we love the atmosphere......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kitchen was backed up and it took an hour to get our food. We were told up front that it would take a while to get our food, but appetizers came out after the entree and food was not good. Definitely not worth the price. The kids spaghetti and meatballs tasted better than the $32 porterhouse steak. I know the server and staff were doing the best they could being that it was a holiday, and the wait time for the food wasn’t the issue as much as the quality.
Christmas Day dinner. Not many restaurants open, but there seems to be a fairly high demand. Romano's Macaroni Grill - Birmingham was one of the few that were open and took reservations. They were not prepared. Our server (who asked us how to spell Chianti) had started the day before. It took two and a half hours to complete the service and mains came out before the salads. Not a manager in sight, and that was where the problem should be directed. To say there was no sense of urgency would mask the issue; there was no sense of service or quality control. If you can't provide the service in a professional way, stay closed.
I thought they did a great job considering it was Christmas Day. Our waitress did her dead level best!
Love that Macaroni Grill is open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and that the website encouraged Open Table reservations for these special occasions. The restaurant got very busy very quickly. Our server Rachel was phenomenal. Food is very good, but the Rosemary Bread is exceptional. Yum.
Shrimp scampi was watery and not too good. The chicken parm was nice. Overall it was good?
Able to be seated quickly, service was fine. Food was decent at best. Waaaaaaay too much garlic in entree, salad was blah. Other items were ok, but not great.
The entrance way needed tidying up a bit. Encourage the wait staff to sweep the entrance hall periodically.

Lasagna not as good with sliced sausage
We have not be to this restuarant in numerous years. At 6:00 there were only 2 other tables seated and we wondered why no one was there after a busy day of Holiday shopping. We remembered there being home made bread brought to the table, which use to be delicious. The bread we were served tasted like it had been frozen for a very long time with a very dry stale freezer burned taste. The entrees did not taste like fresh ingredients were used. My vegetable entree had very few veggies poured over a very firm square slab of something, which the waitress identified as grits. We remember there being fresh white gladiolas and fresh everything, but not anymore. On top of that the table that was later seated next to us was a mother and son who appears to be around 10 yr old or so. Prior to coming in, she had purchased a bag of fast food from another restaurant with a milk shake. Once seated, he pulled his burger and fries out on the table cloth and started stuffing his face using his hands, fingers, chewing with his mouth open, licking his fingers and made loud noises slurping his shake. We both found it disgusting since the restaurant does serve pizza, which he should have been able to enjoy. In All of our decades of dining out we have Never experienced any establishment allowing patrons to bring in food from other places to eat at their tables. We were appalled and will definitely not return to this restaurant especially since the food was just mediocre at best. Gone is the fresh food, gladiolas flowers and atmosphere we remembered from years ago. There just is nothing to recommend about Ramano's Macaroni Grill in Birmingham.
Great experience at Macaroni Grill. Felt like the old restaurant experience from years ago. Wonderful friendly wait staff. Food fresh and hot and delicious. Can’t wait to go back. Love the fireplace. Bread is amazing.
Wonderful!!!!! We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal very much! Many thanks!!xoxoxox
We went there for Thanksgiving dinner. Food just ok for Thanksgiving. Do not recommend doing it.
Everyone who went loved everything about the restaurant. . . I will be going back to have more fun
They did not honor my reservation. I arrived 5 minutes before my reservation time and they told me it would be a 45 minute wait. The manager said OpenTable is a third party platform and they don’t honor it. Horrible experience. So not make a reservation at this dumpster fire of a restaurant.
Great service and the food was good. Typical of a chain restaurant like this. Would go again in the future. Real Italian food.
