Romano's Macaroni Grill - Oceanside

We don't often eat at chain restaurants but always make an exception for Macaroni Grill. Their bread and seasoned oil dipping sauce was delicious as always. Their house wine is back on the honor system and the red is very pleasant and super affordable. We had the prosciutto-wrapped shrimp appetizer in a lemon sauce which was a bit salty but very tasty. Both of us enjoyed our pasta entrees. My salad didn't make it out before my entrée so our server voluntarily took it off the bill. We finished with the dessert 'caprese'. It came out as a crumble vs the slices we were used to. Tasted good but presentation wasn't as appetizing. They were out of decaf coffee which I found quite odd. The restaurant was over half empty at 8:00 on a Saturday night so it did make for a nice quiet meal. Their menu is extensive and a great value.
When we arrived there was no hostess at the front desk and another couple who arrived before us was also waiting to be greeted. I had put a request for a booth on our reservation, however it was given to the couple checking in before us that did not have a reservation and was seated in the dining area, by a waitress. Since no one was monitoring the hostess area or reservations, we were then given a booth in the bar area.
When seated, no one greatest us or but olive oil on the plates already set up at the table. We were brought bread, but still no greeting. Finally the bar waitress asked us for our drink order and if we knew what we wanted to order, as menues had been left on the table prior to being seated. The mouse level was higher than we were accustom to, so CE we were seated in the bar area at this Macaroni Grill, as we usually dine in Escondido.
The food was fantastic and served hot.
The noise level improved as it got later.
Their food is consistently good, we both have our favorite dishes. And they’re really super about taking special requests. But the check-in service at the Host stand is consistently lacking, & leaves me feeling frustrated many times. I usually end up standing there for some time before anyone comes over to assist, & half the time they don’t know how to check me in thru my Open Table reservation. Because of this, I always dread having to try to get us checked-in because I don’t want to waste my time standing there while employees are either out of sight or ignoring myself & others who are waiting. This one area of mismanagement mars (for me) what would otherwise be a totally enjoyable dining experience here.
Best waitress Danni? In the world she should be in New York at the most expensive one!
Excellent food. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed the service and overall restaurant.
I used to love Macaroni Grill but they seem to have slipped over the years. I know a lot of locations have closed but don't know if they were franchised or corporate owned, nor do I know the ownership status of the Oceanside location where I dined recently. However, everything from their famous bread to the service was down a notch from when I used to be such a fan.
My companion ordered a salad, which turned out to be decidedly mediocre. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and another appetizer that I can't even remember. We had to ask three times for balsamic to dip the bread in. Our server was not overwhelmed as there were only four tables occupied.
Bottom line is if you go in with low expectations, you'll probably leave satisfied. Otherwise, you might want to look for another restaurant.
Accommodated our large group of 20+ at a soccer tournament with barely 15 minutes notice and handled it with grace and professionalism.
Good food for a fair price!
The food was very well prepared and presented. Our server was very attentive and personable.
Family was here from out of town. I was a regular customer for many years. I have only been here one other time when it was this crazy.... they were short staffed tables not clean reservations behind not kind enough to say hi how are you we are behind please be patient with us. Just the employees running around and working. No one was standing around doing nothing they were all working. Two women working front desk one would say 30 to 40 minutes and the other one said 20 to 25 minutes. I had reservations for 7:15 for a party of 5 we go there at 6:30 with that they said it would be 20 minutes. At 7:20 they called a party under even on another page of my name and reservation. In the mean time several people walked out of the restaurant in frustration. Others were hovering the bar tables for a place to sit, others were walking out as their reservations were not honored. As I sat in the bar next to the check in counter I watched all of this go on. My family now thinks I am crazy why are we not going somewhere else and I am thinking only come here with up to 4 people as we can find a seat in the bar area? We were finally seated had a delicious dinner with the best service they could do with the short staff they had . Being self employed and owning a service business it was worth it ! However, they could be more communicative about Being short staffed and pleas be patient
It was Valentines night and service was good but slow. Kitchen was backed up, people were leaving their tables after waiting so long. We stayed because i could see the hard work our waitress was doing and i know it wasn't her fault. However, very poor planning on management for a big night like Valentines Day. They should've been prepared for the heavy dining.
The dinner was nice. Good place for Valentines Day dinner and good food.
Amazing! Great Valentine’s deal! I was able to bring my infant daughter (who was asleep the entire time) and not worried about the noise level or dealing with other people.
Great server Hannah! She was great. Food was good too, aside from canolli wasn’t that good.
Kris got us a great table and Mary have us excellent servive
We enjoyed our dinner and Ricki our server was great and friendly.
Service was pretty slow despite the restaurant being almost empty. Food was delicious but overpriced for what it was. Good place for a large group to gather though!
Very small servings for the price
Chicken thin tough and over cooked
Small serving of soup over priced
Did not enjoy the taste of food was much better
In the past
Could improve by visiting Spiritos Italian
Chocolate cake dessert was delicious
We had a reservation, were on time, ordered fairly quickly and then waited for an hour for our drinks and an hour and a half for our meals. The food was ok at best. There were many empty tables. I would not eat here again.
It would have been a 5-star review had I not discovered we were overcharged upon reviewing our receipt when we got home. The entrees came with soup or salad but inexplicably there were 2 $10.50 unlimited soup-and-salad charges on top of the entrees. Moral of this review is check your receipt before you leave the restaurant. Otherwise, the food and service was very good.
Although the food is consistently good, the Host Stand service is consistently lacking. I almost always have to wait at the stand, sometimes behind others, because the desk is unmanned or because several employees are chit-chatting & finishing their conversation instead of immediately seeing to their customer(s). And when unmanned, despite being seen waiting by multiple employees, no one has ever taken it upon themselves to inform the manager or others that someone is waiting. Very frustrating to have this happen at a restaurant we like to frequent.
Service was terrible
My reservation was for an early dinner and we were seated immediately which is a plus when you had 5 kids in the dinner party. Could have had better service considering it was not busy but nothing major to complain about.
13 teenagers going to their first homecoming, this was a great experience for all of them!
The service is awesome. The food is delicious. My family loves it. The lobster bisque is so yummy.
We were attracted by the two meal special offer that included two entrees, two drinks and a shared desert. The bread and dip for it started the meal off in a very tasty direction. The entrees were excellent and the fact that drinks included adult beverages as well as routine table drinks was a nice touch. The service was very well timed, not rushed or slow at all, but relaxed and kept us well supplied. Thank you, Romano's Macaroni Grill!
Went here for one of our last meals with family visiting from the UK. We all loved that there was drawing paper covering the table so we had great fun doing doodles, cartoons, games etc! Great idea!!
The food and service was also very good - we would go back here again.
They have some great choices including multiple options for Create Your Own Pasta with four different pasta styles, five different sauces and 7 different add-ons like mushrooms, raosted peppers, etc. Plus you can add meat balls or sausage and other protein items for an additional fee. My choice was capellini (long, thin pasta) with pesto sauce and roasted peppers, mushrooms and garlic. After a salad and some bread, I had enough for lunch a couple of days later.
Best part of the meal was our waitress Ashley, friendly and verry, verry service oriented. One of the best wait personnel we have ever had in a casual restaurant like Macaroni Grill.
We went for Fathers Day and everything was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and the food was very good.
Food was great as it always is
The food was fantastic, great flavor. I highly recommend.
After a very hard week for both me and my husband, we decided to treat ourselves to a night out, somewhere neither of us have ever been. We were very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant for not only its food (which was delicious) but its exceptional service. Colby was our waiter and he was kind and prompt bringing out all the food and drinks we ordered. We even spoke to the manager to let him know how pleased we were. I have already recommended this location to a few friends in the area and we will definitely be returning in the future.
The waitress was wonderful. Our meals delicious. Lovely evening!
Macaroni Grill always delivers good comfort Italian food - cooked & presented well- enjoyable dining for families- and good variety of choices for all tastes. I was craving shrimp and got the scampi in a creamy garlic sauce. My daughter got the always delicious chicken Parmesan. The grandchildren love the kids menu and even the baby loved everything! Good times- good food!
