A lovely atmosphere, friendly service, excellent food. The perfect place for a quiet dinner.
Outstanding once again. We will be back
Food was amazing! Our waiter was also great he made great recommendations.
Had not been in some time but very glad I came
The freshly made pasta was outstanding
Good service. Nice menu. Daily pasta special was very good
Beautiful place in an older home, some of the food was great (Italian crepes with eggplant), while other was just ok (garden salad, pasta of the day, desert-cro-nuts). My date and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t rush to go there. Server was si eager to get our order in, very much rushing us even though our reservation was only at 7pm, he was worried about handling a bigger table coming in. So much so that we felt like ordering without even thinking about it. Will probably go back, but rather try other places fist.
BETTER WITH TIME - A wonderful Italian restaurant whose food has stayed up to the minute since its founding 97 years ago. Everything was delicious and full of flavor and nuance and fresh local ingredients. It may not have the glamor of newer more splashy places but if really superb food is what you are aiming for this is the place.
Great service, lovely spot
Great meal, great service, very classy setting. Highly recommend!!!
Absolutely amazing food in a perfect ambiance. We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner here and the server went the extra mile to make it special.
Excellent atmosphere and quiet on a Thursday night. Really enjoyed the evening. Delicious!
This is a most charming and interesting dining venue in an 1800s home. The food and service were excellent. Perk: speak east in the basement.
Roma is a wonderful restaurant that is definitely worth a visit. Small, with an interesting menu, a nice wine selection, and a relaxing atmosphere. We had the fried Brussels which were great. Then I had cod with quinoa and my husband had pork ragu. We ended with a sinful cronut for dessert. As best we could tell the only nearby parking is street parking which could be tough on a busy night.
Great service and beautiful property. Solid drinks. Good focaccia. However, as I diehard Italian I found the food pretty bland and under-seasoned - which was a surprise. And most disappointing was that the portions were that of a typical appetizer round. My advise is order all three courses which is something I never do.
It was such a nice little restaurant. The food was amazing and our server was great. We definitely will be back for another meal.
Outstanding dinner with my mom. The hostess and server couldn’t have been more friendly. From the mixed drink through the dessert it was awesome.
Wonderful from start to finish.
We were set to visit Portland from our home in Virginia and recently heard from friends (foodies) that Roma has a new chef who had transformed the traditional menu in innovative and delicious ways. Great tip.
The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The food was delicious and on point. Would definitely go back to this little gem.
I loved eating here. Nice atmosphere and excellent food.
Had a lovely time at Roma. Dinner at 5:00pm and we were the only group in the entire restaurant. One other diner was there. So it was very quiet with lovely back ground music. Menu is not extensive, about 8 main courses to pick from but a good selection and one special. Portions are just right, not oversized. I doubt you will leave with left overs. Service was the perfect amount of attention and also giving you room to relax, take you time but also feel like you are being well taken care of. Pricing is in the higher end but worth it. Our party of 5 had an enjoyable experience.
We really enjoyed tonight’s dinner. The food was fantastic with fresh ingredients, and service was good with great ambiance!
Excellent Caesar salad and caprese salad a d meatballs. Entrees were very good but somewhat small portions. Definitely get salad or app and you will be very happy!
Amazing food and service
The meatballs, Caesar sales and chicken Parma were delicious and great! The special of the night was not my favorite as I found pasta taste just not my flavor. Service was great, charming ambiance. Only suggestion is to improve A/C and ventilation. Would recommend
Food was great and our waiter Michael was excellent
Our dinner experience last night was amazing. Six of us (two kids and two couples) went out and had a fabulous waitress, Devin. Outstanding second support provided by the host. The food was amazing- six different entrees were all perfect. We ordered all three desserts and shared- simply yum! Our waitress was patient with the child who wanted sweeter lemonade, thankful to the house also for bringing crayons and coloring books for table entertainment- the child ate home made pasta with red sauce that we all would have loved eating- yum. Honestly, the wine, the appetizers, dinners, desserts, ambience, service were PERFECT. This is my new #1 fav restaurant in Portland. After dinner head downstairs to the bar- patio- we did- with the two kids in tow. Great little menu and mocktails, cocktails... highly recommend the french fries. Service remained impeccable. Head over asap to Roma.
We’ve been visiting Portland from NY for almost 30 years. We have been to the Roma many times - back in the day when it was under different ownership and in recent years. We are never disappointed. Matt and Hailey humored us and provided excellent service. It was a memorable night, as always! Thank you.
The Brussel sprouts were amazing. Creative Northern Italian fare. Not ordinary pasta, in fact, neither of our entrees had pasta.
The service was very friendly and took great care of our party. The food was locally sourced, fresh, and delicious. We ate dinner around 6 and it was nice and quiet, not uncomfortably busy.
Can’t believe we’ve lived i the area for 8 years and this was our first visit! We’ve been missing out! Total gem.
Absolutely excellent…this restaurant is way under-rated.
Wonderful - amazing - we would say the best restaurant in Portland - great staff, service, wine list and food - just go you won’t be disappointed- and if Devan is your server follow her lead - she is amazing
Well prepared meals, nice wine list, good service. A great place to enjoy an evening out.
Great food. Chef’s recommendations were excellent.
I was in Portland for the weekend and Roma was recommended to me for a nice Italian dinner. The food did not disappoint. We had the meatball appetizer, chicken parmesan, and the steak - all were delicious! Our server was very nice and pleasant, the only complaint was that we felt very rushed. We were told we had to put in our entire order at once, so our meals came out immediately following the appetizer. It did not leave any time to sit, talk, drink, and enjoy. We had an 8:00 reservation and were out by 8:30. The food was great and I would try again, but the rushing of the service needs to be improved so that the experience can be more enjoyable. This is a nice restaurant, and the entire experience should reflect that.
The food, wait staff, hostess, and atmosphere were fabulous. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Great food and service. Carbonara noodles were a little under cooked (crunchier than al dente) but overall the preparation was very good. Service was fantastic. Pricing for the pasta was high, even for Portland.
It was very nice, quite, great service and perfect portion sizes.
We were very disappointed with our experience. Our server was very out of touch with timing and a bit rude. We sat down and she asked if she could take our drink order (literally as we sat down). We asked for a moment and she just stood there. Had to ask her to come back. She came back in about 60 seconds. Had to send her away again. I’m all for attentive service but this felt highly pressured. When she took our drink order she asked if we wanted to place our food order. Again, we asked for more time. This place was not busy and by our estimation they weren’t getting any busier since we had a 7pm reservation. When she came back quickly again we said we’d order appetizers. She wouldn’t take our order unless we ordered our dinner too. This is how the entire meal went.
As for the food, the Caesar salad was really good. The rest of the meal not so much. All but one entree was cold. I Had the carbonara, it was cold and lacked any sort of flavor. It was a tiny portion as well. Neither my wife or our guests enjoyed their entrees. Again, cold and major lack of flavor.
Desserts were marginal at best. It was our first time there and I see little hope for improvement so we won’t be coming. Major improvements needed all around. About a half hour after we left my stomach felt extremely unsettled from the meal.
