“Here at Roma, we’ve created a menu centered around the Roman classics like the pasta trinity — carbonara, amatricana, and cacio e pepe. But the departure from southern Italian cooking has also allowed Shanon to include other Italian greats like osso buco and braised lamb shank.
His wine list has also evolved: It now features the three Italian big reds: Barolo, Barbaresco, and Brunello, as well as favorites from Tuscany like Chianti and Super Tuscan blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The food and service was excellent. We felt the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food that was served and the quality.
Excellent experience. Lovely patio. Best bolognese in town!
The food tasted mediocre and my friend joked that she made pasta at home that tasted better. The noodle texture was good but the taste was just bland. Compared to the price point, it wasn’t worth it at all.
We came in for a warm meal after several days with no power or water. Everyone was welcoming and did their absolute best to make our dinner special, even with limitations on things like ingredient availability, tap water and ice. We enjoyed the food, the friendly service and the effort to make things as normal as possible during a very abnormal week. We will definitely be back.
We visited Roma for the first time last year for our anniversary and fell in love - it's now our tradition! Great food, excellent service, and love the wind and dessert selection.
I have very mixed feelings about this place. I love their patio - it’s pleasant and cozy, and the service is always attentive and prompt. My problem unfortunately is with the food. I’ve been here many times and have tried many different things on the menu, but nothing is ever better than just okay. Everything tends to be bland and unimaginative. With so many great italian places around, they badly need to step up their game and re- work the recipes adding interest and flavor. I hate to leave this review because I really want this place to survive, so I hope this will help rather than hurt.
Excellent in every way; what great people and great food.
Charming place!! The food is delicious!
Food was very good and service was as well. The wine menu is fairly limited.
Furniture is very uncomfortable and poor overall ambiance for the price point.
Roma is a beautiful restaurant that always has amazing food and best of all is the astounding service. And save room for dessert!
Mary, it was great seeing you both! Thank you for joining us and for the kind words. Shanon
The best service with outstanding food!!
Great as always!
Chris, it was great having you both in. Thank you for sharing your experience here. Shanon
Good ambiance and service but food was underwhelming. We ordered calamari, it came in cute little wire basket with 2 shrimps n a fistful of calamari - expensive for tiny portion. Hubby had sausage pasta, good flavoring but ordinary. I had gnocchi with shrimp-not stuffed inside. It was smothered in yellow cheese and few sprigs saffron which could barely taste. I was disappointed because it tasted like Kraft Mac and cheese with doughy pasta. I came in excited with high expectations but food not up to par.
Sensia, I am sorry that everything was not perfect. I wish I would have known while you were here. We could have corrected it then. Please join us again and ask for me personally. Shanon

Great place to hang out with friends or grab dinner with a special someone.

The octopus salad was quite good, but the other good was nothing special. The traditional seafood soup was fishy and all the mussel shells were broken. Broth did not have depth of flavor, tasted like tomato sauce out of a can. Made me wonder if they put old seafood items in the soup to use them up. Service was very inattentive.
Delicious! Can’t wait to go back. Excellent service and food.
THANK YOU! Shanon
Food was good, we were given a table in a private room...so service was not very accesible.
Overall nice atmosphere

The food was not very inspired. People were sitting way to close and the overall cleanliness of the facility needs to be addressed.
Can you expound please? We follow the states guidelines in regards towards Covid 19, also we have a had several perfect Health Department reports (very hard to do). Please let me know what you observed. Shanon

We went back today. The food is tertuble. Octopus really bad. Bread terrible! We asked for olive oil and what we got was canola, the burrata out fron the fridge, really bad experience and the prices hihg for the bad food! Good service but bad food.
What happened? We are open! Shanon
Lovely restaurant. The food and service is always great
Thank you! Shanon
Always a good sign when your waiter speaks Italian.
Yes, so does the kitchen. It helps to have an Italian staff. Shanon
First time and exceeded our expectations!

Food was exceptionally good, very tasty. Service was very friendly. While we were there we found out they have a food and wine pairing special on Thursdays which was a very good value. Too bad we won’t be able to experience it since we are out of town and won’t be in the area in the foreseeable future
Thank you for the kind words and we look forward to seeing you back when you return to Houston. Shanon
The food was better than expected but we did find the ossobucco and the lamb shank were a little too salty. The Amarone wine was spectacular, as was Massimo, our waiter!
Samer, thank you for letting me know. Have a great day and Massimo and I look forward to seeing you again very soon. Shanon
I think they have the best pasta in Houston, hands down. It’s cozy and romantic and quiet but comfortable and unstuffy. Great wine list and amazing service. The rice balls are to die for!
Thank you for joining us! We are so happy that you enjoyed everything and we hope to see you back very soon. Shanon
I was looking forward to having an early dinner at Roma because I had read so many favorable reviews and this former New Yorker loves his Italian food. I was seated on the patio and within a few minutes was greeted by my server Felipa. I ordered a glass of Montepuciano and perused the menu. I decided on the combination shrimp and calamari appetizer which was lightly breaded and served with two sauces. Great start. For the main course I ordered the veal scallopIni I don't like artichokes which accompanied the dish so I asked for the frigatelli peppers and roasted potatoes instead. The veal was served with prosciutto in white wine sauce.
You know the scene in The Godfather when Sollozzo tells Michael to "try the veal, it's the best in the city." I find it hard to believe there is a more tender tasty piece of veal than this. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again.
Ended the meal with espresso and sambuca and a text to my son to say we need to plck a date to come back.
Thank you so much for joining us and for sharing your experience here. Shanon
The food was delicious, wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful, and the patio was very enjoyable! Will definitely be back

We had a wonderful Friday night family dinner on the patio. The server recommended a nice Valpolicella that went well with everything we ordered. Ended up eating 4 courses plus the delicious Limonicello. Service was evenly paced and relaxed. Looking forward to a return visit soon.
Lovely birthday dinner and amazing service! Wasn’t too noisy on a Friday night and our server was very helpful
The offerings were surprisingly good. Italian fare in Houston is so often disappointing, but not at Roma. The freshly made pasta was tasty and the sauces were delightful. Attentive, but not hovering waitstaff took care of our needs.
Great dinner spot. The scene was nice and tranquil--perfect for catching up with a girlfriend or a peaceful data. The food was delicious and well priced. The waitstaff was helpful (recommendations, knew what things were) and tentative (glasses of water stayed full, table stayed manageable i.e. removal of empty plates). Overall a great experience. Will definitely go again.
Thus is such a great place that is such a hidden gem!! Great food, wine, service, ambiance and value.
Shannon always gives the best service like you are visiting an Italian family. A must visit!!
Sandy, it was great seeing you both and thank you for the kind words. Shanon
