Roka Akor - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Food was delicious. The butterfish appetizer was beautiful and yummy. The miso cod was tender and delicious. The vegetable tempura was beautifully presented and a nice assortment. We had the green tea tart with green tea ice cream which was okay. Probably wouldn't order that again. Would definitely get the first three dishes again. Service was excellent!
We went to Roka Akor after receiving a gift card. What a wonderful experience!
Not being a japanese steakhouse expert, the menu looked pretty...foreign. We were as a bit of a loss on what to order. Our server was excellent, and asked what our budget was and said he would just order a good cross section of food to try.
Course 1: Butterfish Tataki with white asparagus and yuzu
Course 2: Hamachi (yellowtail) serrano chili roll
Course 3: Pork belly with marinated gold beets and maple verjus
Course 4: Prime beef kimchi dumplings
Main courses: Yuzu miso marinated Black cod with pickled red onion and 8oz filet minon with chili ginger sauce
To say we left satisfied is an understatement. This place deserves the award of best AZ steakhouse.
Went for Valentine's Day dinner after 8pm. It's a large space with a sushi bar, robota grill, drinks bar and seating. The robata/sushi bar is fun. There was actually a long queue of about 10 people waiting for tables in a line at reception. Hostess said to wait for the table. Told them I would wait and order a drink at the drinks bar. I think the staff were stressed from the Valentine's rush. Why people line up at a fine restaurant I'll never understand; it's more common to suggest to customers waiting for their table to go to the drinks bar and have a drink. Our waiter was really nice, enthusiastic and made great suggestions. I did not have the tasting menu, The sushi bar (because it was a special menu night for Valentine's) only offered portions of "chef's choice" of nigiri or sashimi (did they mean omakase?) so can't comment on the sushi bar. They offered some beautiful oysters arranged in a bowl. The sashimi was good and nicely arranged, too. Must say the robata items like the steak and tiger shrimp are excellent. You have to try the robata grill items. And fabulous deserts. The Valrhona chocolate cake is fantastic.
Came in for 2 birthdays...never acknowledged it...even though they asked at reservation...Forgot to bring 2 of our sides dishes and when we asked for them we got them about 12 minutes later… we had already finished our entrées… They did take one of them off the bill only when we asked… And really no attempt to make up for it… This is a high-end place so you expect high and service… It was only meh
The sushi was the best I've had in Arizona. Other things were good. Decor is tacky, but the bar is very cool looking. The host ignored us for the first 5 mins after we arrived and he immediately walked past us and picked up the phone and did a 5 minute phone call before asking us for our reservation. There was also a massive group, it looked like a business dinner. Probably 30 people who were incredibly drunk and loud. I don't think that's typical.
The waiter was great, bartender was great, food was very, very good. The chefs nigiri selection was amazing. And it wasn't as expensive as I had been told. $190 for 2 people. I was expecting Nobu prices.
The second time I've been to Roka Akor-Scottsdale, and it was a good as the first. We went for sushi, and the sushi here is the very best. Several cuts of Bluefin Tuna were excellent, and the Japanese Uni was superb. Everything was super-fresh and well prepared. My only "negative" comment would be that the overall selection of sushi is somewhat limited, but on the other hand, they are not selling themselves as a sushi only restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, and our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and the overall quality of service was excellent. I will definitely be going again!
Great food and service! Noise level high, hard to carry on a conversation.
Made a reservation on Open Table two days before. When we arrived, the host said our dinner would be served at the bar. We said no and then they said they would seat us on the patio. We said no, we requested a table inside. Then they told us that it was a Friday night and they were busy??? We were about to ask for the manager when they miraculously found us a table in the dining room. Very disappointing on first time visit.
very good restaurant, we come here all the time. its better in the summer when its less crowed.
there was a mix up with our food and waited over an hour and half. had trouble getting the wait staff or managements attention. kinda ruined our evening but the manager did come over and comp the meal which was nice. food is good. this usually does not happen at this restaurant but just aggravating after a long week where you just want to relax and have a good time.
it was not fun.
Food was good, but grossly overpriced for the quality. Limited menu and wine list. Service was good, but they wouldn’t leave me alone to eat. I had no less than six people hovering. There is many options that give better and more for less and a better overall experience. Don’t recommend strongly.
Appetizer selection for everyone. Pork belly was amazing. Excellent drinks and happy hour selections. Dinner was unique and quite tasty. Everyone at our table was pleased with the food. Seabass & rib-eye to melt in your mouth. The lobster was done tempura-style, which was a very pleasant update over the normal broiled or boiled. Worth it.
The food here is outstanding. Atmosphere is casual, which is popular these days. Although we had a fairly quiet table in a back corner, due to the fact that it was Sunday night and early (6:45) so not full at all, it would be horrendously noisy if the restaurant was full. Prices are pretty typical for Scottsdale, which means very high anywhere else. Go if you have deep pockets and don't mind having to shout at each other across the table.
Good food, fish was of good quality, served at the right temperatures, with the right accompaniments, but this place is WAY overpriced. I would go so far as to say that every item on the menu was 100% more expensive than they should have been. Oysters for $5.00 each? 6 thick slices of sweet potato for $9.00? Really? Never have I seen that, and I live in San Francisco.
We went to RA 4 about 4 years ago and were blown away. The quality of the food, the extraordinary presentation, the sake pairing, the knowledge and the explanation of each dish and the sake pairing and the service was worth every dollar of the chef's tasting.
This time the service was nothing compared to 4 years ago, 3 out of 4 in the party had there drinks and my wife waited 30 mins.!! (after we reminded the server) before she got her first drink. We sad at the bar in the front and they always left the door open after guests entered, so it quiet fresh.
The so called Wagju beef tasted like liver, agreed by all 4 in the party. The waiter replaced it with the prime New York strip, which was many times better. - A big price tag for a not so extraordinary culinary experience.
