Roka Akor - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
The food here is outstanding. Atmosphere is casual, which is popular these days. Although we had a fairly quiet table in a back corner, due to the fact that it was Sunday night and early (6:45) so not full at all, it would be horrendously noisy if the restaurant was full. Prices are pretty typical for Scottsdale, which means very high anywhere else. Go if you have deep pockets and don't mind having to shout at each other across the table.
Good food, fish was of good quality, served at the right temperatures, with the right accompaniments, but this place is WAY overpriced. I would go so far as to say that every item on the menu was 100% more expensive than they should have been. Oysters for $5.00 each? 6 thick slices of sweet potato for $9.00? Really? Never have I seen that, and I live in San Francisco.
We went to RA 4 about 4 years ago and were blown away. The quality of the food, the extraordinary presentation, the sake pairing, the knowledge and the explanation of each dish and the sake pairing and the service was worth every dollar of the chef's tasting.
This time the service was nothing compared to 4 years ago, 3 out of 4 in the party had there drinks and my wife waited 30 mins.!! (after we reminded the server) before she got her first drink. We sad at the bar in the front and they always left the door open after guests entered, so it quiet fresh.
The so called Wagju beef tasted like liver, agreed by all 4 in the party. The waiter replaced it with the prime New York strip, which was many times better. - A big price tag for a not so extraordinary culinary experience.
Great Food. Liked the variety of the menu. They served quality ingredients that tasted great. The presentation of the food is as good as it gets. Our server was fast talking know it all who needed to be told a couple of times to get our drinks! We were not impressed. Take the service out of the equation and this restaurant was worth the trip!!
This place was absolutely terrible! Everything that could have gone wrong did! I would absolutely not recommend this place not will we ever return. They messed up our entire order, service was incredibly slow and forgetful, and the some of the fish was very fishy tasting. It is outrageously expensive which we knew going in, but expected Nobu quality. What we got was one of the worst dining experience we have ever had. There are so many incredible place to go in Scottsdale... do yourself a favor and skip this one!
We dined to celebrate our sons 28th birthday . He s been to your restaurant in Chicago and highly recommended
While the restaurant itself and the good was delightful ; our experience with ordering put a real damper on the event . 80 % of every item we mentioned to order from drinks to food ... our server would talk us into a different ( and much more expensive ) item . I can understand a suggestion , but he was over and above with Everything , saying “ I wouldn’t recommend that but ... “ We even had too much food with all the sides he insisted on .
We personally will never return , and wouldn’t recommend to any friends or colleagues.
What a disappointment !
Experienced Omakasse for the second time at Roka Akor in Scottsdale... and once again, it was phenomenal! Imagine the chef giving you a tour de force meal with 8-10 courses of hers/his best and most tasty creations. Incredibly tasty, fresh, and healthy... and delivered with style and flair. Roka has a cool and very lively ambience, and great bar area. Finally, our server was great, and the pacing was just perfect for us.
Absolutely one of my favorite spots in the country.
We made reservation through open table got there on time and they said they were sorry but they didn't have reservation ready for us we would need to wait 20 minutes. 30 minutes later we were seated at a table that had been open the whole time, and did not get drinks for another half hour and food starting half hour after that. We we're double charged for a drink, overall bad disappointing experience. It was my son's 16th birthday and we literally stopped for wings on the way home because he was still hungry. We should have left as soon as they didn't hold the reservation, which is what we will do next time, we still tipped 15% but will not be returning.....
Usually we love Roka (and go consistently during our annual winter visit) but our experience was so disappointing, we will not return. Our party of 6 showed up early for our 7 pm reservation. We were told there would be a short wait. At 7:30, when we inquired, we were told by the hostess that another party had taken our table bc “they were unhappy.” When we told the hostess that we were now unhappy, we were reassured that we would be “taken care of.” At 8 pm, we were seated at a table by the door that was made freezing cold by the constant opening of the door. We complained and were moved again. No manager came by to apologize. They did not offer anything - even a gesture - to accommodate our inconvenience. There are too many other great restaurants in AZ and Roka is too expensive to justify this treatment. They simply didn’t seem to care.
This was an interesting place. Think of an extremely high end Benihana that doesn’t have the Teppanyaki tables. Great steaks and food, with sushi. We sat at the bar. It was a bit spendy for two people ($500) but good none-the-less. I think it would be great for a couple who wants sushi and the other wants steak.
From the moment we sat down our waiter Caleb tried to up-sell us on every item...before we could even order a drink he was selling us the chef's tasting menu and special apps, even neglecting the specials for the evening. Once we ordered our main course - Caleb up-selling items like a $28 mushroom side - our food arrived at random and incorrectly. We were not told food would be served as prepared. Our incorrect seasonable vegetable tempura order only arrived as prawns and should have had veggies and fish, the veggies/fish came after everyone else was done with their main course. The maitre d' did give our table a lovely dessert display, but with so many issues, we have no urge to return. So disappointing.
For our last dinner in Scottsdale, we chose Roka Akor. We’ve heard great things about this place...especially their happy hour menu. As soon as we sat down at their lounge, we were greeted by a cute bartender named Leigh that congratulated us on our anniversary. She had some recommendations for us...so we went a little crazy and order drinks and 8 dishes to try on their HH menu. My favorites were the shishito peppers and the hamachi rolls. Their yakitoris were good too. But I think what made our meal even better was how sweet Leigh was and how the chef created a little dessert fruit plate for us that made our last impressions of Scottsdale so great!!
Beef was amazing but the sushi was average at best especially given the price. Service was terrific with kaleb one of the better servers we have had. overall experience could have been better if the sushi was any good but for $50 for a couple of pieces of sushi I expect it to be amazing.
Omakase was amazing. Chef treated us to an absolute treat. Service was good. The ambiance was a slight turn off due to the loud music, which made having a conversation very difficult. Overall it was a good experience and would recommend to foodies looking for a good tasting menu in Scottsdale.
