Roka Akor - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
This was an interesting place. Think of an extremely high end Benihana that doesn’t have the Teppanyaki tables. Great steaks and food, with sushi. We sat at the bar. It was a bit spendy for two people ($500) but good none-the-less. I think it would be great for a couple who wants sushi and the other wants steak.
From the moment we sat down our waiter Caleb tried to up-sell us on every item...before we could even order a drink he was selling us the chef's tasting menu and special apps, even neglecting the specials for the evening. Once we ordered our main course - Caleb up-selling items like a $28 mushroom side - our food arrived at random and incorrectly. We were not told food would be served as prepared. Our incorrect seasonable vegetable tempura order only arrived as prawns and should have had veggies and fish, the veggies/fish came after everyone else was done with their main course. The maitre d' did give our table a lovely dessert display, but with so many issues, we have no urge to return. So disappointing.
For our last dinner in Scottsdale, we chose Roka Akor. We’ve heard great things about this place...especially their happy hour menu. As soon as we sat down at their lounge, we were greeted by a cute bartender named Leigh that congratulated us on our anniversary. She had some recommendations for us...so we went a little crazy and order drinks and 8 dishes to try on their HH menu. My favorites were the shishito peppers and the hamachi rolls. Their yakitoris were good too. But I think what made our meal even better was how sweet Leigh was and how the chef created a little dessert fruit plate for us that made our last impressions of Scottsdale so great!!
Beef was amazing but the sushi was average at best especially given the price. Service was terrific with kaleb one of the better servers we have had. overall experience could have been better if the sushi was any good but for $50 for a couple of pieces of sushi I expect it to be amazing.
Omakase was amazing. Chef treated us to an absolute treat. Service was good. The ambiance was a slight turn off due to the loud music, which made having a conversation very difficult. Overall it was a good experience and would recommend to foodies looking for a good tasting menu in Scottsdale.
I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and always enjoyed the Omakase menu. I must say the experience I had this past Sunday was a bit disappointing. The raw fish that was served was definitely way off, from freshness to taste, compared to past experiences with the restaurant.
I hope this was just a one-time miss, perhaps on a slow Sunday; however, for the price being charged for the Omakase menu, one would expect the chef will serve the best and freshest ingredients in any given day.
1st time we went loved it! Good food, great value with Scottsdale Dining Card, quiet enough to hear each other. This time they would not let us use our card on more than half the entrees that are marked Market. Last time they did allow. So value for us was bad. Noise was so bad we could not hear the person next to us.
Not for us.
My first visit. Great selection on the menu. Loved my Chilean Sea bass. Not offered on a lot of menus. Service was excellent, if our server was busy there were others to make sure everything was good. Seemed to be a strong support/team mentality towards customer service. Nice, clean atmosphere with a "trendy" LA style vibe. Will definitely come back . . .
This is our favorite Japanese steakhouse. We love the quality of food and it’s presentation. They have excellent service and has vibrant atmosphere. I love the location. Overall, this a great place to take your special friends and family for a celebration or a memorable dinner. I love their omakase style dining. It’s well worth it for the reasonable price.
Walked in early for our reservation but got seated right away. Oysters & sushi, Steak tataki appetizer was great.
Steak & Branzino great. I ordered the crab leg entree It was terrible. Small amount Crab was cut up in a pool of butter not even in the shell for &70.00. Wife had had a upset stomach the next day from something she ate. FYI she drank water.
Food was excellent! It just so happened to be restaurant week, which allowed us to try a variety of flavors, perfect for our first visit. The black cod was wonderfully cooked and the presentation was beautiful.
We are excited to come again and try additional menu items.
This was our 1st visit and we decided to take advantage of restaurant week to give Roka Akor a try. We sat at the cooking area and were taken care of very well by the chef. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned the next night to treat a friend for dinner. We definitely plan to come back again soon. Thanks!
We lived in Japan for 10 years so we expected typical American Japanese food but this was exceptional and unique. There are many items available that do not include raw fish so we think it is appropriate for anyone whether they like sushi or not. If you do like sushi it is excellent quality. We have never had better in Arizona.
