Roka Akor - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Thoughtful modern Japanese menu, beautifully presented, and simply delicious. Next time doing the tasting menu but you cannot miss with the wagyu, cod, and nigiri. Loved the inventive takes on sides like corn on the cob and 5-mushroom clay pot rice. Will definitely be back with a group!
Amazing night with amazing food! There’s no other way to describe it. Excellent service, staff is knowledgeable on the menu and can make excellent recommendations! Family style serving makes the experience more intimate and keeps the conversation going! My new favorite spot in the city !
Ordered the omakase for 2, food was not worth the price. Only the first course was good. Sashimi course was very boring, the fish was not anything special. It’d be better off replaced with a nigiri course so that the chefs can be more creative. Crab dish was very salty and wagyu was salty. The Dungeness crab dish with rice was just awful. They should just take it off the menu. Service was good, but will not return.
Fantastic food! From the moment I arrrived I was greeted and taken care of with great customer service. The downstairs lounge was warm and friendly with good drinks. Then we went up to dine in the main restaurant and could watch the action in the kitchen. The food was fresh with interesting flavor profiles. The sushi mentee in your mouth and the scallops are a must!
Cannot wait to return for a third visit to this excellent place. Meats, fish, vegetables (savory!), appetizers, are all present in great variety. Service is attentive and helpful -- for example, in describing the different sake varieties on the wine list. If you asked me my favorite restaurant right now, this would be it.
Looked for a fancy date night with my girlfriend and found this place. While the Omakase (tastings menu) was one of the best I've ever had, I found the service to be a bit overwhelming and robotic and a little awkward. While it was Halloween night, it seemed as if our servers made every effort to perfect our plate arrangements, keep our water full, and checked in on us almost every dish that was served. This is the service I expected, but the lack of conversation and people skills at the chef's counter on a slow night makes me want to book a regular table instead.
Service- lacking: our waitress checked on us maybe twice after she took our order. The main server who brought us our food did not describe the food when she brought it and merely put it on the table. Other servers were much better and presented the dish they brought out.
Food- $52 steak- chopped into small pieces for no reason with no flavor; Tempura shrimp- mediocre with a too sweet sauce; Scallops- too salty; Roasted corn- too sweet; Softshell crab roll- where was the kimchi?; Tuna nigiri was good; Hamachi roll was OK.
Ended up spending $212 for two people for a subpar experience. Will not be going back.
Great menu variety and the opportunity to mix the sushi, sashimi, appetizer and grilled items. We tried the prawn tempura, Wagyu fillet, snow crab roll and king crab legs. All were excellent! A4 and A5 grade Wagyu beef is also offered by the ounce but we didn't try that on this visit. The Wagyu fillet entre was of exceptional quality so I can only imagine what the higher grades offer.
We had a 9:30pm reservation and arrived about 9:15pm. A couple walked in after us without a reservation and the hostess sat them. I asked why she sat a walk-in before us as we had as reservation and she stated our reservation was for 9:30. I said " it's 9:25"......seriously!! She shrugged her shoulders at me. For the $$$$ that you will spend here you should at least be greeted nicely and be friendly......clearly not the case here. Overall experience was just okay. Too many "really worth it " restaurants to go to than return here!
I'm a vegan and picked this spot because it was convenient for a friend from out of town. I didn't expect there to be much more than vegan rolls for me but boy was I wrong. They have an impressive Vegan menu and their staff is very accommodating. I'm impressed!
