Experience was pleasant, service was great. Typical San Francisco Japanese steakhouse, high price sushi, well plated but lacking flare for price. Rate sashimi in Vegas better, chicken was fabulous, Mayo was overly salty and had peculiar aftertaste. Would recommend, but not a have to return.
We went for my birthday dinner. The team gave me a sweet card and comped a tasty ice cream dessert! All of that on top of the amazing food— it was a WOW meal for sure!
Absolutely the best birthday dinner I have had in a while. The restaurant started a bit noisy but got better as folks left. Our server brought each course at the perfect time leaving enough time for conversation. we had a drink before dinner at the downstairs bar and the bartender/mixologist was amazing and informative.
so much fun and worth the price.
Great experience! They timed out the dishes perfectly (didn't feel rushed or kept waiting). Would definitely come back.
This place is perfect for date night. The waiter gave awesome suggestions. We wanted to try everything on the menu, but our waiter definitely gave us the right choices. Will come back!
Roka Akor does not disappoint. We went there with a large party of 12 for my birthday. Erin, the event manager, was easy to work with and made herself very available. We went with the decadent omakase, and each dish was more spectacular than the previous one. Highlights were the king crab legs with chili lime butter, sweet corn with garlic soy butter, and the wagyu filet. And then there was the gorgeous dessert platter. We had an absolutely wonderful time!
Nice for special occasion dining, but not a good value for us normally.
We had been to Roka before. The food was good. We ordered a cold appetizer, a hot appetizer, 2 meat dishes, 1 vegetable and a dessert. Personally, I would recommend the Japanese fried chicken (meat) and the roast scallops (hot appetizer). The fried chicken was more like an appetizer dish to me but the portion was quite generous for Roka. My wife like her lamb chops.
At first we were seated at the counter because we liked to seat next to one another. However we were at the side that was closer to the BBQ and it was a little smokey for us. We requested to change to a table and it was taken care of right away.
One thing that we felt very uncomfortable with was that they wanted our ID to redeem our e-gift certificate. This was the first restaurant in our experience that an ID was required for gift certificate redemption. We would think twice if they just wanted to see one but they actually took my wife's driver's license to take "some info" as part of the record of the redemption. It was nice that manager came to our table to explain the policy was to prevent fraud when the same e-gift card was redeemed twice. However with all the identity theft issues going on, Roka did not give us any guarantee that the info taken would definitively not end up into the wrong hands. Moreover the manager said the ID info would be shredded after FIVE years. Who could really make any guarantee for such a long time? Where would they be keeping all these paperwork?
Delicous and I like the ambiance. Food presentation was fabulous
Main dish came super late. Almost 45 mins after we got our last appetizer. Waitress did apologize but did nothing else to make up for the experience. Gonna post this on Yelp as well. Food was delicious though.
Roka Akor will never disappoint you. I've dined here during happy hour, dinner, and the prix fixe dinner menu during SF Restaurant Week. Roka Akor's service, food, and drinks are always exceptional. Dinner can get pretty pricey, but happy hour and prix fixe menu during SF Restaurant Week are valuable deals that you cannot pass up. If you find yourself at this fine establishment, the marinated black cod, Japanese mushroom rice, any of the Japanese wagyu beef options with bone marrow, and chocolate cake are an absolute must try!
I love love love love Roka! It never fails that’s why I keep coming back! Hosted a lot of people over from out of town, family dinner and my birthday. They have great cocktails, fine selection of wines and sake. Tried their restaurant week menu which was amazing! Will be back very soon! Highly recommend it :)
Fantastic. Service can be just a tiny bit slow if you’re trying to get in and out but the food is amazing for a good price and the ambiance is great. Does get slightly loud but not too loud to have to shout.
We had the prix-fixe menu and the entrees were salty. We have also ordered uni nigiri, fresh but not sweet. very bland. I was expecting more from this type of restaurant. oh well...
We had the business set menu lunch. The menu offers a good variety to choose from. Would like to visit again soon.
The food was very good, will definitely come back again.
Expensive but the food was delicious. Great service. Fantastic open kichten layout
Went here for 2020 restaurant week for my birthday and boy is the food good and worth the price!!! The restaurant menu consisted of 4 courses. (1) marinated tuna or hamachi appetizer, (2) 5 pieces of sashimi, (3) bone marrow with wagyu sirloin or miso cod, and lastly (4) AMAZING chocolate lava cake. All the dishes were amazing and only costed $65! The portions are large you will fer sure be full with just the prefix. Overall would definitely recommend trying this place out during restaurant week otherwise it’s quite expensive.
Nice place and delicious food!
Great food, ambiance, and service! Definitely coming back!
Amazing food. Great service.
Great food and great happy hour 1$ oysters
A friend happened to point us toward Roka Akor during SF's restaurant week, where an enticing 4 course dinner (including dessert) could be had for $65.65 per person. Most of us ordered a cocktail to start off the night. I chose Roka's take on the Paper Plane, which was delicious. For the first, I opted for the Yellowtail sashimi with shallots and poached garlic ponzu. This was one of the stars of the night. For the second, came five kind chef selection sashimi. The sashimi served that night was sake salmon, hamachi yellowtail, kanpachi seabream, saba mackerel, and maguro tuna. (which was a tiny bit stingy at one piece of fish for each person). The fish was mostly fresh, with the exception being the mackerel, which had a detesting mushy texture, a sign of either poor thawing/freezing. The hamachi was the best fish on the plate. What surprised us was the poor knifemanship with the sashimi for this dish. For our table of 6, it was served altogether, but required us to separate the fish because they weren't completely cut through. The main entree was the showstopper - a 6 oz. Wagyu sirloin with a large grilled bone marrow and spicy sweet garlic soy
The wagyu was perfectly cooked, and the flavor of the bone marrow was incredible. It completely overshadowed everything else because of the intensely powerful flavor. The dessert was a warm Valhrona chocolate cake with almond caramel inside (think lava cake) and vanilla ice cream on the side. Overall, we walked away completely satiated and not wanting any more to eat. Rarely does that happen after a small multi-course tasting menu dinner, but this definitely hit the spot. Other than the blemished sashimi course, everything else was pretty spot-on. Unfortunately, this means I cannot award 5 stars.
I participate in Roka Akor's SF Restaurant Week offerring 1-3 times a year and it is OUTSTANDING each time. The value and quality has not declined which I highly appreciate.
SF Restaurant Week. Had some slight issues but ended up with a very satisfactory resolution thanks to both our server and manager. We will definitely go again.
I didn’t catch our waiters name but he was awesome
James is a great waiter. Staff were all true professionals with excellent service mantra. Nice lunch experience and I will return.
Everything was delicious starting with the perfectly chilled dry Belvedere martini to the lobster gyoza, spicy edamame, grilled scallops and the shrimp tempura, squash blossom and veggie tempura and the yummy bone marrow.side dish. It was a perfect birthday dinner celebration!
Beautifully prepared food and amazing ambiance. Fun and vibrant during lunch. The service was perfection. Also bar downstairs was just renovated and I am definitely coming back for cocktails and a meal at the bar!
