Have been to the downtown location. This one compares nicely, possibly even more enjoyable. Smaller space is intimate, not loud, can have a friendly conversation. Relaxing not rushed. The food was amazing! I think maybe smaller menu? But still many many delicious options in both sushi and grilled food. Great and varied wine list and fantastic cocktails. Service was prompt, professional and really great. Not inexpensive but a really good addition to the area for sophisticated eating. Our entire party loved it and will definitely be back!
The calamari was some of the best I've had. We ordered the bone in strip steak medium rare and it came out precut and it was fantastic - very tasty. My son had the pork ribs and he absolutely loved them - he's very picky - but these were fall off the bone and he kept on saying how great that was. Very good overall, would highly recommend.
Very nice staff and tasty food but very expensive if you go the tapas route. Much better value for lunch
Food is as good as usual. My server, Lee, is excellent as always.
Excellent service and knowledgeable waiter. I left notes in my reservation that we were celebrating and the restaurant communicated that to our waiter. I would highly recommend for any occasion and will return. Wine list was broad and food nicely presented.
Lee amazing server
Great service, accommodated some of the party being very late wonderfully.
Variety and artfulness of the food was incredible. And our waiter explaining each dish was very helpful. No a cookie cutter sushi place.
This place never disappoints! Service is excellent, food is superb all around great place!
Lee was our server and immediately knew it was going to be a great evening. He helped us with a beautiful Pinot Noir, even explained the tannin levels on the label. He recommended the waygu sirloin with charred marrow and was delicious. My wife had Japanese skirt steak with a yummy dipping sauce. We had two mushroom dishes, crimini mushrooms and a mishroom and rice dish served in a little black cast iron pot. Pre dinner cocktails were very good and he surprised us with a coconut sorbet and two apertifs since it was our anniversary. For appetizers we had prime beef dumplings, very tender and crispy squid. Its always nice to be personable with the server, the chef makes the meal but good service makes the experience memorable for the guests. Roka is expensive but worth it - food is always consistent, prepared well with good flavor.
Entrees were very disappointing and over priced.
Very nice place with delicious meals
Food is typically good but it was an off night. Too bad and it’s expensive.
I tried the banana ice cream and chocolate cake and it was delicious.
We had the tasting menu & our waiter, Lee, was outstanding & so knowledgeable with the menu selection.
Great food and great service.
Roka has been my in my top 5 favorite restaurants list since the first time I went there! Still holds a high spot on that list, never a bad meal, server or over all experience from this place!!!
Have been a fan of the downtown location for years. The Old Orchard location also serves wonderful, fresh seafood and has something for everyone. The fish is always fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. Highly recommend the black cod with miso. Our non-fish eating friends said their steaks were perfectly prepared. That said, from start to finish, service at the Old Orchard location was very slow. Had to twice request our drinks and the entrees for the table did not arrive at the same time. (The service at their downtown location is much better.)
MAKE RESERVATIONS! We had a party of 8 so I made reservations 2 weeks in advance. Being the party organizer I arrived a few minutes before our 6 pm appointment. People walking in before and after were told the next available table was at 8:30.
The ambiance is nice, nothing too special. Noise was a bit loud if you are trying to catch up with friends/ family. There was a pretty consistent "din" that was not related to any individual party or the kitchen.
The service was extremely knowledgeable and gracious. However, nearly 40 minutes elapsed between delivering appetizers and returning to take our entree order, and that was only after I flagged our waiter down. Not the end of the world as we had no other plans, but a bit of an annoyance.
The food was excellent! Two of our dining partners are jaded Sushi connoisseurs and they were very happy. I will add though, that I ordered the Chefs choice Sashimi and was presented with tuna, salmon and sea bass. They were fantastic, but I would expect the Chef to be a little more adventurous, or at least to offer something more than just the staples.
We also had two vegetarians with us who were pleased with what they ordered.
Get the Brussels Sprouts!
I had the "Honor and Glory" and was so happy with it I had 2 more! Really fantastic!
Eating and drinking here is not for the cost conscious.
Service was impeccable. Good was okay, but nothing too great for the price points. Had the crispy squid, beet salad, and a lunch special that had salmon avocado mami, spicy tuna maki, and a salmon and yellowtail nigiri.
Food was very God’s and service was quite attentive. Pretty pricey for what you get.
I made reservations for my birthday. Upon entering the restaurant.. I expected a bigger restaurant but I noticed it was quite small . They are known for their presentation of their plates . They definitely delivered on that and service! I enjoyed my ribeye and it was cooked just right . It was nice to try roka but I definitely like blufish better . It’s just a little pricey at roka . You have to order all the sides separately so it’ll add up!
5 of us got the chef’s tasting menu and it was fantastic. So much food and excellent choices!
Must try the brussel sprouts. Yum!
They diced up my Filet Mignon rather than serving it whole so I returned it. Also, the men's restroom was in desperate need of service.
Overall, I would return hoping for absence of these issues (cleanliness more important than diced food)
We had the porkbelly Ramen noodles. It was very good. The porkbelly was very tender. We requested that the Ramen noodle be cooked a little longer so it would be more tender.
Hats off to our server Peter who was very friendly and helpful
If you go, ask for Lee. Best table service you can get. He makes the experience for us.
As a first time visitor, we tried a number of options and shared them at our table. The mussels appetizer was scrumptious with enough broth to sop up with the accompanying toast. The sushi rolls were creative and delicious, but a bit pricey. The tempura prawns were big sized but a little greasy. All in all, we enjoyed the meal. We sat is a heated patio area that was warm and quiet, facilitating good conversation. We will be back!
AS always, we thoroughly enjoyed our Roka Akor dining experience. Our server, Lee, gave us several excellent food recommendations and we were pleased with everything we ordered.
The food was outstanding and the service was great. I cannot recall the last time i had a meal this great. The filet is the best prepared piece of meat i have ever eaten.
Food is great, ambience is good, but tables are to close each other and service after order is placed is too slow getting the food on the table.
My friend and I came here for the first time. We enjoyed a number of small plates along with drinks. What a treat! Everything was delicious and meticulously prepared. We also enjoyed a crab sushi roll with the freshest of ingredients. We also enjoyed a bowl of edamame and crispy octopus. Both delicious, especially the octopus. We had no room for more, so we will be back soon!
Great place , will return
Another great meal. Great service. Love this place.
Everyone was so friendly! The food and presentation was excellent!!
Peter along with the rest of the staff provided intuitive and top notch service. The dressing on the beet salad had an addicting zing and the salmon was perfectly cooked. Roka Akor continues to be a place you can reply on for top quality service and food!
