It was amazing experience! We ordered the chefs tasting and wow! Lots of amazing food for an excellent price!! We will be back!
It was a great night overall it was my wife’s birthday the meal courses were outstanding very tasty this is my new favorite place to come and celebrate special occasions. I’ll definitely be recommending this place to family and friends.
Selection of food is quite poor compared to traditional sushi restuarants.
The quality and preparation of the food is horrible. For instance:
Miso Soup had a sour taste.
Salad with ginger dressing had relatively no ginger-like taste.
Dumplings with Beef were extremely acidic.
Rolls were firm, very dry, and simply did not taste fresh.
Pricing is extremely high for this quality.
Clearly, you're simply paying for the stylish decor and location.
Great lunch value. Salad — miso soup-5 tiger shrimp tempura. The tempera was a little greasy,
Great first experience here, we will be back! The NYE 5 course special was absolutely amazing!! One of the best meals I have ever had!
Food was very good, some dishes (especially the Brussel sprouts) had too much sauce on them. Overall we loved the sushi and the service was great.
The food was ridiculously high and barely had any options. For two rolls and dumplings, I spent over $60. Not worth the money it was just sushi nothing special. I should've just made a reservation at a different sushi place. It was good food and had a good atmosphere, but not worth the money.
celebrate Christmas eve, small and intimate place. good food and ambience. good for family celebration.
Surprised by how great the food was. Will definitely be back
With the reserved table, we got seated in the main traffic flow spot. We had guests coming into the restaurant brushing up against the table, we had servers coming from the bar area brushing against our table, and a bottle neck of people coming and going. Not a great spot for a table, felt like it is there so they can cram in 4 more guests in an already crowded space.
Food was cold.
Terrific staff, great wine selection and Billy was excellent in welcoming us to the restaurant
Two of us enjoyed a late lunch. As always, the service was spot on, fish fresh and delicious and the Ramen a surprisingly tasty addition. Overall a lovely spot to catch up over a meal.
Excellent food and service (Brian). Consistently well executed food and attentive staff.
Had a good meal. One disappointment was the beet salad. Had it there before and it was different. This time there were a couple of beets but mostly a bowl of greens. Loved the big eye tuna on crispy rice. The pork belly was a little too much fat, also a better dish previously. Used to be one of my favorites.
Very good food. Tab can grow very quickly.
I took my two college sons to celebrate birthdays in November and the waiters were very attentive and the food was awesome.
Have had several excellent dinners here in past but recent experience was exasperating. Excellent food and Omakase Chefs Tasting was very good as always. 5 pm reservation with 7:30 tix to show 5 minutes from restaurant seem like a good plan until 6:45 when only dessert was yet to be served and eaten. Never did see same when had to leave at 7:25 to make play. “Busy kitchen” seemed like lame excuse especially for dessert. $50 gift certificate and 20% off bill did little to restore the proper atmosphere for the Wednesday evening out.
One of our family members is Muslim, so we appreciated having some Halal options. We thought the food was excellent, but the prices were over the top from our experience. $22 for a glass of Jordan Chardonnay, for example. The $19 Silverado Merlot was a skimpy pour according to the person who ordered it, and she’s an extremely light drinker. All the food prices seemed high. We even joked about what currency they would make sense in. The calamari was an exception.
The server had great knowledge on the menu, made recommendations and was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and flavorful.
The manager and staff were very friendly and accommodating for our special occasion. Food was excellent! Presentation was amazing! The only criticism would be the prices were expensive. I would definitely go back based on the food and ambiance.
We eat at Roka Akor frequently, and love the food. Service is generally very good, especially if Brian is our server. This past Saturday, we had a reservation at 7:00, and were not seated until 7:30. The front of the house staff did not meet the restaurant's high standard. We were told that a party of 4 was seated prior to us because they arrived before us, which was not true. When I questioned the host and hostess, they just shook their heads, as if to say "you will have to deal with it." This is not the service I come to expect, and Roka seemed to be understaffed. They definitely did not have the correct people in place to greet and seat people upon arrival. We will be back, but hope that they receive similar feedback and make an effort to improve the front of the house service.
Always good food and service to match.
One of my favorite restaurants. Great service and food always wonderful.
Great date night spot- food is incredibly consistent and always great. Definitely recommend the pork ribs and the brussel sprouts!
it was extremely expensive
and the wine we wanted was not in stock - so we had to order glasses of more inferior quality
Waiter was fine however.
Excellent presentation and food. Very attentive wait staff.
We went in for the happy hour $1 oyster special. I made a reservation for 4:15pm. We arrived by 4pm and luckily there was only one other person waiting at the bar. It wasn’t crowded at all since the happy hour began 3:30pm. We quickly ordered a dozen oysters, but they said there were only 6 oysters left. The other lady at the bar hasn’t even ordered yet, and she was surprised too. It seemed a little weird to me that they would only have 6 left when they have $1 oyster special on Tuesdays only. It was very disappointing. I will not be back.
Great food, but very overpriced. Service and food were great. In addition Skokie tax is 12.5%
We didn’t order as well as previously. The server told us there were 12 Kumamoto oysters and we ordered them all, but only 6 of the oysters she brought were Kumamotos
Amazing food. Sashimi was just amazing. You pay for quality!
Omakase sheff menu was amazing! We were very impressed!
Hamachi roll.....beet salads...pork belly......miso soup,....scallops,...black tea...we enjoyed every bite. Ambiance is
a bit cold architecturally but the open kitchen and barbecue fire burning keeps everyone warm.
Tasty food, unnecessarily high prices, especially non-alcoholic. Ambiance okay, Would recommend only to someone who wanted that specific type of food, not just to generally sample.
We had a truly enjoyable experience at the Old Orchard Roka Akor. We dined at this location a couple months ago and had a very different experience. I had left a negative review and the restaurant manager personally invited me back to give them another shot. I’m so glad we did. Our server couldn’t have been nicer and the food was on point. We started with a special sushi roll they were serving with part of the proceeds going to breast cancer which was really tasty and salmon roll. I had the NY strip and my wife had a skirt steak and each one was cooked perfectly to our liking. We had raspberry, strawberry, and ketel corn sorbet for desert. The manager was nice enough to take care our desert and an additional salmon roll having heard about our previous experience. The whole night was really enjoyable and I look forward to dining at Roka Akor again.
Loved the room (we were in the sun room) and food was so delicious!
It was my husband's 50th birthday so we went all out with the chef's choice premium dining experience. The food was incredibly good.
We were seated at a small table in an atrium area. Not terrible but not very impressive at this price point. Our waiter was delightful but seemed to forget about us toward the end. Perhaps she was exhausted from bringing out all of those tasty fancy dishes. Though a minor inconvenience.
Overall we had a memorable experience.
Servers indifferent even when I questioned a dish. I said it wasn’t what I had last time. They said it was
Very slow unfriendly service. The Oakbtook one is much nicer in many ways. Unfriendly place.
I always like Roka Akor. Their menu is varied and competitively priced for lunch. The service was outstanding but I would like more green choices, more vegetables. Aside from this, I would definitely keep it in my "go-to" list.
The service was great and everyone was very polite. However, the food was not as great as I would expect it to be. The miso soup was too salty, and the sushi did not taste fresh and it was sometimes chewy and hard to eat. I visited a few years ago and the food was amazing then. I’m not sure if it was just an off night or if the quality declined over the years, but I was disappointed and don’t anticipate returning again.
