Roka Akor - Oak Brook
Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

The Japanese Manhattan! Enough said!
This restaurant has so much to offer!!
Insanely delicious steaks, seafood and sushi!! The biggest problem when you come to Roka is actually what to choose to eat, ‘cause literally everything is just phenomenal!
They offer 5 course chef’s tasting menu as well- journey off flavors through the entire menuuu!
A cool, pleasant spot that hasn't gotten too crowded yet
Great Food, Amazing Service!
Would absolutely visit again!
Great food. Great service. Would definitely go back.
We had the decadent taste menu. It is truly decadent and worth the money and time.
every dish was superb and very amble in size. The upgraded scallop dish is almost worth the money on its own.
Wonderful service by Lee! Food and drinks were delicious!
The food is all wonderful quality! Great for a special birthday.
We went to the restaurant last Friday for a bday celebration. We were seated immediately and our table was really nice tucked in the corner. The service was ok. We had to wait for a long time to to place an order. And some things were missing when out came and we actually had to hunt our server down etcc all in all the service wasn’t attentive. The food was really good but priced on a higher end. The ambience and the drinks were really good!
In spite of my business partner unable to join me for our meeting dinner, we still conducted our meeting over the phone while I was at the counter & enjoying my awesome food & drink served to me. Btw, LOVED the counter made out of a vertical cut of a beautiful tree! Kudos to the interior designer. Thank you to the Server, David (or was it Matt?!?) who I may not be sure of his name but his service was very accommodating. As a former global Restauranteur, I know what good staff & service and is. Thank you! - Mary Moy-Gregg
Customer service was great!
Good food, good ambiance
Fantastic from beginning to end. We had such a great waiter! The food/drinks were delicious and we will definitely go back.
Awesome experience will be back soon! Great service
We dine at Roka about once a month. Usually we have a great experience but this one fell below. Perhaps it was just this one time so we are hopeful our next visit will be better.
Absolutely loved our server as she was amazing. While the food was good, it wasn’t as amazing as our server. Was it worth the 220.00 for two? Sigh, it was good, not great.
Host seated us on a corner when there were plenty of tables available in the middle of the floor where everyone else were sitting. Server then greeted us by saying you got 10mins to order before the kitchen closes. Reservations were available all the way until 8:45 and I didn’t understand why the rush. She did the same when we tried to order desserts!!
I have been to Roka London which was my first and it was never like this. Server and host ruined our date night!
Greeter didn't even say hello when checking us in. Server went over nothing about the menu. When we didn't order drinks, she didn't seem interested in us at all.
Food was amazing and service was the best I can remember.
We enjoyed a fabulous meal! Ribeye was outstanding as was the black cod. Out server Nick was a great guy, very knowledgeable
Absolutely delicious Asian cuisine. There is a great variety from fish to meat. They have an excellent drink menu. From sake to sochu and Asian beers. Highly recommended.
Tried Roka Akor for my parents anniversary dinner, I wanted them to try something new and get them out of their comfort zone. This was the perfect place!! It started out very well meeting our server Wade he has wonderful he explained the fantastic steak options, along with sushi my husband and I love. My mom and I did the decadent omakase, it was phenomenal. We were able to try a large variety of food and to think there is still so much more on that menu. We will definitely be back.
(Just disappointed I'm only able to post a limit of 6 pictures.)
I’ve been to Roka Akor in Chicago and the experience is completely different than what I experienced at Oak Brook. We had lunch here during the week and it wasn’t busy. My meal came with soup and when the waiter placed my soup on the table, he spilled some of the soup on the table. He didn’t apologize but asked if the soup spilled on my sweater and when I said no, he walked away and went to another table to serve them. He didn’t even say he was coming back to wipe the table so I had to ask another waiter passing by to clean the table. On top of that, I ordered sushi and when my meal was brought out, the waiter didn’t bring any soy sauce. I had to ask him for it. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables with guests and he wasn’t mindful at all. I expected more from their service considering this isn’t a cheap restaurant. On top of it, the sushi rice was hard. We also ordered the steak. That was delicious but expensive. IMO, this restaurant is not worth visiting.
we’ve always loved coming to roka. but we’ve had issues with the food being served super late. we ordered an appetizer and we waited almost 1.5 hrs for it. it was served right before our meal which also took almost 1hr 45 min to come. it was a good thing we were not that hungry when we came, so we did not complain.
Food was spectacular- we enjoyed the sea bass, the sashimi, and the tempura shrimp the most, but everything was very flavorful. The strawberry chocolate molten cake was a nice finish as well
The food was super average at best and was really pricey for what it was. Our waiter was fantastic!
First timers and not the last! Great services and food, my favorite hot plate item was the Pork Belly, my meal was the rib eye with Brussels sprouts and it was all awesome.
We made a reservation for two at 7 pm on Feb. 15th. The restaurant was understandably very busy being Valentine's weekend but we had to wait approximately 30 minutes to be seated (we were on time). That was a little frustrating. The staff and service more than made up for the long wait. They were apologetic and very attentive without over doing it. The ambiance was nice and not too loud. We were able to have conversation without telling. We ordered the Valentine's menu for two as it offered a nice variety of dishes off their menu giving us an opportunity to try multiple dishes. The food was delicious. We enjoyed everything they served us. Everything tasted fresh. One of our favorites was the shrimp tempura, best we've had anywhere. The American Wagyu steak was phenomenal and cooked to my taste even without asking how I wanted it cooked. Btw, I like a medium cooked steak. Dessert was delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant for a nice date night. Be prepared to spend as little money, but it's worth it.
Great spot for dinner. Steak was really fantastic!
Everything was great
It was our first time going and everything was exceptional. Sam was our server and he was attentive and had great recommendations. We will be going back soon. If I had one complaint it was a small one. We were seated on a small round table that was rented out and it was a bit wobbly and pretty distracting. When I mentioned it to our server Sam, he did his best to fix it right away. Overall we had a night to remember. Thank you
Amazing staff, service an food.
We had an excellent experience at Roka Akor. The drinks, especially the blood orange margarita, were amazing. My favorite maki rolls were the dynamite scallop and the crispy tuna. I had the Chilean sea bass and it did not disappoint. We will be back for sure. Our server was great and attentive...we would not change a thing. PERFECTION!!!
The ambiance is modern chic; the music was techno pulsating and a bit too loud. You'd think on Valentines Day it would be a bit more suited. Table service is impeccable from active busing to polite and prompt food and drink delivery. We felt welcome. Food and cocktail presentations were gorgeous and inviting. But the kitchen didn't get hot or cold just right. Ordered a Waygu steak "blue" and clarified to make certain it was understood less than rare temp. It arrived cooked to medium. It was tasty and we enjoyed the flavor, but it was not what we had ordered. Even more concerning - we ordered the Bluefin flight - three different cuts of Maguro. It arrived beautifully presented with plenty of eye appeal. But the tuna slabs were served much too cold, frozen with ice crystals within. It was a $48 disappointment which should have been the highlight of our wanderings through the menu. Advertised as a Japanese steakhouse and sushi, it missed the mark on both. At least the Sapporo draft was served at the optimal temperature to wash it all down.
