Roka Akor - Oak Brook
Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

Mr Lee is the best. Magical experience
Service was a little off but it was fixed by the waiter fast they made my guest very happy with a free appetizer for her birthday . One thing that Almost ruined the day as me and my friends were leaving I opened the door to exit the restaurant the cover from the door opener hit my girlfriend in the shoulder and almost hit me in my face I’ve gave the piece that fell off the door to the front desk hopefully it’s fixed by now.
Always happy with service and food. One of my favorite go to places. Absolutely love the spicy edamame.
Very nice! Excellent and different food. Excellent service
Great jasmine tea
The chef’s tasting menu is absolutely amazing!! Wonderful food! Wonderful experience!
The lunch “sets” are a nice compliment and reasonably priced. Ordering rolls on the menu can add up very quickly. Service was prompt and knowledgeable.
We had an excellent dining experience at Roka Akor for our birthday celebration. Our server, Rich was very helpful with recommending the tastiest appetizers and entree dishes. We chose 2 hot dish appetizers, the scallops and mushrooms, that were very tasty. We chose salmon, marinated cod and a nigiri dish for our entrees. We also received s complimentary dessert with our other desserts. We had a very nice dining experience. We will return soon.
Went on a Sunday night at 6pm. Staff accommodated my seating request which was nice, but it turned out to be a bit too crowded (you were quite close to your fellow diners) and loud for my wife, so we moved to the small enclosed room by the windows facing outside. It was quire warm because the A/C wasn't working well. Waitstaff was hit and miss, as our waiter was friendly but others brought the food and were a bit on the "another day of drudgery" side. Food was very good - loved the dumplings and American Wagyu filet, and also the "purple dessert." Cost was quite high (for two you'll probably go over $200.00 if you have any sake or drinks), but I was prepared for that. Mostly however, I was disappointed at the closeness of the tables, somewhat annoying music, and hit and miss service for this type of price point. I may or may not be back. If you were into sushi and money no object, you may enjoy this place especially at the sushi bar - but not the right special occasion place for my wife and I.
Without question an absolutely wonderful restaurant. Great service, excellent food, etc... we went to otiginal Scottsdale location years ago and we were floored management has really made something that was already awesome years ago even better.
Our server was wonderful! We were celebrating a birthday and he surprised us with one of the best desserts they have! He was very nice and very genuine with his service.
Went with girlfriends and shared appetizers, small plates and dinner. Everything is delicious. Our waiter, Carmen was excellent and very patient with everyone.
The food and service were both excellent. The chef did an amazing job preparing dishes that were served with wonderful presentation.
Service was good, food just ok and a bit over priced.
Clearly a Scottsdale establishment. Good even fine product quality, fine presentation and very good service with resort prices. Great outdoor space for eating. Huge prices on all alcohol. Not possible to keep things simple and reasonable when drinking. Unlike other restaurants in Oak Brook, lunch here ends at 3:30PM. So at 4PM unable to get Ramen which was the reason for our visit. But one of the managers apologized and provided an appetizer on the house. OpenTable was not clear on hours and availability of certain foods when displaying menus.
Also both Google maps and Apple maps place the restaurant in the mall shopping lot when in fact it occupies part of the space formerly used by A&F store in the Mall.
The food was delicious as always. Lee was a wonderful server!
Fantastic service with Carmen! Food was fabulous!
Need to modify my previous review. This was the first time we dined at Roka Akor on Saturday evening. It was so loud it was impossible to hear one another speak. I do love this restaurant, but will not being coming back at peak times again.
We are repeat customers and appreciate the attentive sevice. Cannot get enough
Pork belly and hot pot rice!
Great tasting food with exceptional service
Our second time here. Had the peppers and octopus for apps. They were good. Not great. We were excited for our steak as the first time there everything thing we ate was so flavorful. We split the 10oz NY strip with truffle aioli. Steak was not seasoned well and aioli was not very truffley. Though it was cooked perfectly medium rare. Mentioned that to the manager who did apologize and gave us a free desert. For price I would expect more.
Our anniversary dinner couldn’t have been more spectacular. The service, presentation and meal was superb. They even gave us a special toast of champagne.
Can’t wait to celebrate again. Chefs selection is definitely the way to go!!
We had a great experience. The sushi was excellent. The steaks amazing! Our server was Paul and he was great! The hostess was very accommodating when I called to say we’d be about 15 minutes late. We will definitely be back!
Excellent quality! Knowledgeable, friendly & accommodating, wait staff. Easy to navigate if you are GF.
Did the Chefs premier or whatever they call it. $120 PP. Steep to say the least, special occasion however. Supposed to be 5 courses of the best of each category on their menu. The first 3 courses are all seafood/makki/nigiri (sp?) The last of the first 3 courses with sea bass and lobster tempura (small Caribbean lobster tails) was goof and sea bass was nice portion, the rest of the first 3 courses was disappointing for the amount of food and money. Blue fin Tuna, Blue fin Tuna, Blue Fin tuna, seemed every dish had some sort of blue fin. All tasted the same to me to be honest. The final meal course was the filet, by far the best thing on the menu and we ARE NOT steak people. Perfectly cooked, excellent flavor, American Waygu. Desert tray was nice as well. Overall WAAAY too pricey for the Chefs menu and selection of courses they choose for you. I would definitely not go that route again. Just order off the menu. Save about $50 pp that way and you get what you want, not Blue Fin Tuna prepared 4 different ways.
Service was fantastic and so was the food. The staff was attentive and friendly.
Great service. The Kobe was awesome. We had the decadence pre set menu, execellent presentation.
I frequently visit Roka Akor (SF, Chicago, and Oak Brook) and Oak Brook is consistently subpar compared to Roka Akor's other location. Items are cooked and served differently, taste different (and not in a good way)
Uncooked steak. Weird fish smelling brussel sprouts
The dynamite scallop roll is AMAZING!!
Great food but atmosphere was more family oriented, not great for a friends night out
It's always a pleasant experience eating in Roka Akor. Everyone is nice and prompt to our request. Especially, Carmen is the best. He knows what we like and made us feel eating at home! We are seriously considering Roka Akor for our next party place.
Fantastic, fresh and food. My husband and I enjoyed it and will definitely be back.
This restaurant is a bit overrated in the way they promote their online image. They sell it as a moderately $$ dining experience with a "business casual" or "casually elegant" dress code. We picked this place to celebrate our anniversary & when we arrived for dinner (on a Sat. evening) there was a customer wearing gym shorts, a tee shirt & gym shoes waiting to be seated in the dining area. He certainly was not sporting a "biz casual" look. The host greeted us at the door & was dressed in a suit & tie & the hostesses were also dressed professionally, so we immediately got mixed signals about the dining atmosphere before we sat down. The food was ok, but nothing to remember considering the cost. The best attribute to our experience was our server. He was knowledgeable about both the food, drink & sake selection & kept tabs on us throughout the dinner.
One of our faves. Greatly enjoyed by myself and daughters.
Amazing food. Enjoyed the meal!
We dined at Roka Akor in Oak Brook on a week night for the first time. The restaurant was smaller than we expected. Small patio seating outside by the entrance overlooking the parking lot at the Oak Brook mall. Inside, the space was a little crowded with tables close to each other with some limited seating at the bar. The noise level was above average for an upscale Japanese steakhouse but wasn’t too loud that you couldn’t have a quiet conversation at your table. The service was great and our server was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food tasted really good and fresh. I was surprised, and pleased at the variety of dishes on the menu. There were plenty of steak, seafood and side dishes to choose from. It was a good experience and we had a good time at this restaurant.
Very good food and drinks.
We really enjoyed our anniversary there.
Our server, Lee is very attentive and provided excellent service.
The sushi was dry and had no flavor. The breaded shrimp was bland. Same breading was used for calamari. Disappointed in the ambiance not too comfortable. Steak was amazing. Drinks were terrible. Had a muddled rasberry and Prosecco cocktail totally disappointed. Asked for a Mojito was told they don’t make mojito because they don’t have mint. Overall it was ok probably will not revisit
